This would be near to 1st gen Moog synthesizer - saw one similar but 3-4 generations later in the 1970s , even got to " tickle the ivory's, after throwing a few switches . Fun machines to play .
@@farris-tv7gp It seemed to have set the basic signal flow for a lot of future synths. Not that there's much shock in doing the typical VCO VCA with envelopes thing. Part of the reason for so many controls is that it had three voices. My much cheaper Moog Sub 37 has only two, but has a sub oscillator.
I have got a theremin - not good at playing it - but it is fun. I've done this track live and my singer looked at a loose end on stage, so I got him to wave his hands at the theremin - looked great and sounded weird.
I cannot believe how many posters here do not know what a Mini Moog is - or what a reissue Voyager is. This is the origin and soul of synthesis, folks. Here is the machine. Although, I think most recorded tracks of the Dr. Who series have nothing to do with this machine - however, it kicks ass doing a rendition, no?
The original Dr Who Theme was made by splicing samples on little bits of magnetic tape together for each note, by hand, in loops which were running all over the room to keep tension on them, done by one person (Deliah Derbyshire). It took weeks.
as a fan of the Dr for 35yrs, all I can say is...... thank you pal! I was just innocently scanning the tube, then you come along and melt my face off! faceless on a saturday morning...... well done buddy.... now what am I gonna do!
dohe !! the most impressive dr who seen on a moog by far, amazing job! love listening to it all the time had to believe how many years ago it was made!
This is awesome! It feels like a echo of the original ‘63 theme… but let off the chain, it’s exciting, mysterious, slightly intrusive, and little disjointed (in a good way), and I absolutely love it 😁 Well done, very good work!
The Minimoog is present on the album "Dark Side of the moon" and "Wish you were Here", is two of there best album ! Sorry for my English, i'm a french teen, your playing make on this video is awesome ! keep moogin' !
iv love lisaning to as many versions of the doctor who theme as i can,And this is my favorite by a long shot, its just brilient.THANK YOU VERY MUTCH for sering it.
There's a BBC video here on RUclips showing how one of the early (not the earliest) Dr Who themes was made. Big Yamaha CS-80, an arp or some other synth, and a vocoder plus tape effects.
Wow! I remember (many, many years ago) taking something like 4 months to get just a few bars of twinkle twinkle on an old analog moog. Soo, cool -- well, done mate ! -- frank.
㋡ Very nice ♬ ♪ ♩ nice melody! and sound. Some time ago, I played in the retro shop on the moog, I just love the simplicity of editing sounds, filters Love him hehe ;) great for creating sounds will definitely inspire you to many good recordings. cool song! best regards from Poland ツ
Thanks - glad you liked it. I think your description is about right. I was listening to the Orbital version, then some of the early TV versions to put it together.
Definitely ! Bowties are cool! oh and btw i'm sad that you didn't make an extended mix of it :) its cool! :D oh and i've been looking for a MiniMoog Voyager Old School myself! :D
Well - it's not an original Minimoog. But it's called a Minimoog Voyager Old School by Mr Moog who built it. I shortened it just to make the title snappy!
just youtube Delia Derbyshire, she used tape loops and samples of electronic equipment to achieve what we hear as music in the original Dr. Who theme. that Moog is a beast!
Thanks - appreciate it. Next month I'm doing a gig with some DJ's, so we are going to try a live version, where my backing track starts, I play live synth then they come in half-way through with massive beats! Should be fun.
Sorry - I can't remember! It has no memories either so I'll never get that sound again. I had the sync switch on and was sweeping Osc1 by hand to change the tone. Osc3 was an octave down to bring in later. LFO was assigned to All Osc Freq. Mod Wheel assigned to LFO depth.
Very cool! I always enjoy it if synth players turn the knobs while playing. In this video you have turned LFO frequency, low-pass filer cutoff frequency, modulation frequency, modulation intensity, and other parameters I can not recognize by ear. I would like a drummer playing in this video. Very nice drum beat by the way. And the bass synth played by another player. I know, this is much more difficult to arrange. However, very nice keyboard play and interactive sound design. Kind regards.
thanks - glad you enjoyed it - can't always find other synth players to play with but in Bristol we have started an electronic open mic night and I now have a lot more synth friends! The other knob i was waggling was changing the oscillator frequency with sync on for those lovely sync sweeps.
Oh My Fracking GOD!!! THIS IS AMAZING. I love that mix so much. It's classic analog Dr Who meets a techno-ish modern version. I am using this music for my Dr. Who minecraft. (If it's OK with you, of course). It's perfect. I must give fish fingers where fish fingers are due. You deserve so many hits for this track.
I've sent the backing track to you for you to enjoy soloing over! Enjoy. It's sort of partly based on the original old who theme, with a touch of Orbital inspired drums.
Yes! She even hated synths to the point where she left the Radiophonic Workshop when it started to do away with reel to reel tape recorders and replacing them with synths, claiming that 'electronic' music should be made from scratch by hand. What a brilliantly determined, if not stubborn woman she was. :)
Just watching this makes me feel like you're piloting a TARDIS of some sort.
LOL, they could probably use this as the control panel on the tardis
They actually did use a keyboard on one of the tardises, the junk TARDIS
Ah, this is a video i used to watch all the time at the height of my doctor who phase
That is by far the most complicated keyboard I have ever seen in my entire life. Awesome cover.
You should see Keith Emerson's Moog!

its not that complicated

At first I was thinking 'Yeah, another bad try at making the theme' but this is bloody brilliant
Totally and utterly beyond fantastic! Love this! Amazing sound I feel sure that at one point you definitely reversed the polarity of the neutron flow!
thanks so much
Absolute pure and utter class!!! Skills to the max! Cap doffed and much love!!!

those damn posters.

Nop,mellotron = tape loops; moog= oscilators
It sounds very science fiction, whatever is played on it.
Cenydd Ros I actually combined all the moogs to make a huge console!
a superb arrangement, it is beyond time and space, top marks for a job well done.

Reminds me of a Cross between Orbital, Howell's 5th Doctor theme and the 7th Doctor's theme. Brilliant. Well done.

It reminds me more of the 5th Doctor's theme.
Cool, amazing and this should be the new Doctor Who theme I reckon.
Couldn’t agree more
Definitely hear a lot of the Orbital Remix in this, nice job!
Am thinking the same thing.
Listening to this atleast twice daily now... LOVE IT!
Out..f'ing...standing. Great work. Great job. Supply your own complimentary epithets. Don't be shy you deserve them.

Ive watched dr.who from the start when I was four. Loved all the all the title themes. Used to have the 1978 one on vinyl. But this is stellar
Thanks so much

Thanks - glad you liked it. I think your description is about right. I was listening to the Orbital version, then some of the early TV versions to put it together.
My day has been made, well done my good sir. And remember, bowties are cool.
LOVIN THAT BASSLINE! Sounds a bit Sylvester McCoy to me. Nice! Totally should be Capaldi's new theme. He could definitely dance to this one haha :)
Wow! That sent shivers down my spine! Amazing!
Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. Epic. from there go to the rest of their music, because it's almost all amazing
I waited to see this done on a Moog and I love it Great job!!!!
EARGASM!! That was amazing!!

Well - it's not an original Minimoog. But it's called a Minimoog Voyager Old School by Mr Moog who built it. I shortened it just to make the title snappy!
Not exactly the old one, sort of a newish one missing a few notes here and there. None the less, this is pretty freaking awesome!
This should become the international anthem of the world!
Strike that. It should become the anthem of the universe
AGREED
Ramin Guy rock anthem of UK xd
How in the Gallifrey, are we supposed to sing along to it, though?
No it should be the whovians anthem
I think that thing is going to blow-up at any moment. No, that was my soundcard that was smok'in. Nice Mini-Moogie-Jammie-Sounds.

Sounds better than the original and this pre-dates the synthesizer jeez its awesome
Thanks for the compliment. I've just added some links in the description for you.

Hearing the first notes of the lead gave me goosebumps.
Absolutely Badass!
This is really good! Well done.
That's only the Minimoog cut down portable synth. The orignal Moog was massive - check out images of Moog Modular!
Awsome rendition!

Fish fingers and CUSTARD, you mean :)
but of course
very creative and sounds so similiar)

OMFreaking God, that was awesome. I may just be putting this video on my mp4 player.
Super!! Ca rappelle les classiques de Doctor Who!
thats awesome!, I want one now!
I like that idea - it does remind me of the 10th Doctors Tardis control panel - sort of Retro Modern

I'm totally going to use this for a ringtone. Or an alarm.
I don't know what to do. Maybe i will install my Commodore 64 8bit computer. What an incredible sound.
Well that was awesome.
