I was looking for opinions on why the Model D was held in high regard (beyond it's historical significance), came across an old thread on Gearslutz where the poor OP was utterly vilified and trolled, then found a link to this buried within all the vitriolic posts. I get it now. It's not just the "sound" but the simple UI that allows for this kind of intimacy with it. Watching it being played with the same type of adroit technique as a masterful acoustic instrumentalist illustrates how the simple UI works to make it an "instrument" in the classical sense of the word.
I've watched it four time already and it's still amazing. Masterful.
It almost sounds as if the first part is a bit of a nod to Karlheinz Stockhausen's Helikopter-Streichquartett
