Our oldest film shows USAC Sprint Car racing at the Allentown (PA) Fairgrounds. The footage is from two different years, with a bit of harness racing in between. The first race may be from 1957; the last race is believed to be from 1965. It was shot by Guy Smith's father, Edwin. There is no sound in this video.

Thos food tent just behind the low concrete wall were constantly bombarded with the dust from the races. I think it was a year or two later when I first went to the races at the Allentown Fairgrounds. I attended a lot more of the horse races there with my family as a kid.

Great film. I never realized that Guy caught the racing bug from his parents just like I did! Why and when did Allentown cease holding races at the annual fair? Did the ever have F8 or scale cars on any inner or front stretch track?

According to Allan Brown, the last auto race on the 1/2 mile was held on 8/14/1976. Then they had Mini Sprints on a 1/8 mile track on 6/18/1989. Guy would know more about it than I do.

Great movie but it can't be from 65-66 there are no roll bars on the cars.

You're right. The first year in the film they have no roll bars, but in the second one they do. I think the second year is probably 1965. Thanks for pointing that out.
