I have a number of pieces brought back by a great, great grandfather for his ‘dry goods’ store. One is a cloisonné dragon bowl with the little heart shapes around the band. Thank you for this information. It was very helpful. Would you do another program on bronze incense burners. I have one which was purchased by the same man. There is a little hand written note inside saying it was purchased in 1892.

Hi. How can I find a guide about those signs under a antique plate? My father in law was fighting in Indonesia in 1953 during the war when indonesian chased out the Dutch citizens and his wife was from Indonesia, a wealthy family and had lots of different vases and plates. But I have tried to find what those signs under means. Hope you can help. Regards Dag Andreassen.

may i send you some photos of a cloisonne ginger jar? I can't identify the mark on the bottom:
a light-med cerulean blue enamel base with a dark blue diamond shape (wire outlined, looks almost like an inserted tile). Inside the diamond is a white circle - heavier outlined on one side (gives impression of a full moon), filled w/dark blue again (same as diamond tile); inside that appears to be a tree design ... a small reddish brown letter Y character w/a leafy pattern around the Y top portion in the lighter blue (like three 3's) 🌳

I think Japanese cloisonne started only in the very late 18 century, beguinning of 19 centeury.
How do you clean cloissone?
You take a dry cloth and you wipe it and say " dirty, dirty ... dirty cloissone! 💖💅

It has nothing to do with the country, but with the piece itself, the period it was made and the artist who made it. Some Chinese ancient pieces made over 350 years ago may be worthless while a Japanese piece made by the artist Namikawa made in 1910 will be priceless.
the value of the product is the culture tied to it, the date it was created, who it was created for, and its history.

Kids are kids and they can't help being careless, but 0:29 you shake a piece and show complete disrespect and disregard toward the persons who made it and the persons who kept it in good condition since it was made. This is less acceptable or understandable.
