Why can’t 2 women just be best friends who love each other as friends without sexuality being brought into it? I’ve had friends over the years that I’d take a bullet for, that are beautiful inside and out, that I love dearly. People see what they want to see. Jane : a sassy badass detective who protects her family and friends even if it means her life Moura : a doctor who get along well with her best friend / bad ass Jane She is a some what Shy but confident person THE PERFECT PPL I SHIP THEM
I have watched the reruns many times....love the show and both their characters!! Lesbianism NEVER entered my mind. I see the love between 2 good friends who would do anything for each other and would always be there! It is a special sisterhood..very common among females without any suggestion of anything else!!!
Loved Sasha when she played Kate Todd on NCIS. Was shocked that she was killed off at the end of S2. Then read she asked to leave as she found the tv shooting schedule too exhausting to handle. Was glad to see her get back to acting playing a naughty teacher in 'Shameless'. Then, well cast as Dr. Maura Isles on R & I. She must have gotten herself in better mental and physical shape.
It's an atmosphere that increases as you go through the 1st couple of seasons. As the friendship with Maura grows deeper and stronger there is that lesbian sense. There was one episode that they had to pretend to be lesbians to stave off an old friend of Jane. The books that the show is based on are excellent too.
I watched the whole series recently and looking at it with today's eyes, Rizzoli & Isles was a manual for queerbait. I mean, they connected since day one, both had a lot of failed straight relationships and you can't say that with just one of the men they were *barely* dating, was a little chemistry. It was an entire season where all of them suggested that Rizzoli was kinda lesbian. From time to time they *suddenly* fell profoundly in love but the rush lasted a few weeks. All of their friends and relatives treated them as a non assumed couple, or at least, as if they knew that something more than a friendship was running between them. Every time that this situation started to look serious, they off of nowhere started to talk about men. Both used to cheer up the other when one of them started a relationship, but you could see that they were jealous and uncomfortable when the guy was in the same room. The last season and a half, it was an *I think, deliberated* attempt to make their relation look less gay tension infused, but in the last episode, they made some thing that ended with both sending a message saying "I love you", and one left everything (even if was temporarily) for the other, just to travel to Paris, the city of love, together. So, it seems a little lesbian to me. Or at least a lot of bisexual, more than just a friendship.
She never answers the question. Every time this subject is brought up she swiftly deflects. STOP SWIFTLY DEFLECTING ANGIE!! Give it to is straight!!! (Or not) ;)
She is not a homosexual...she digs men! She doesn't answer the question directly because she doesn't want to turn-off her lesbian chick fans. Keep it to yourself and you keep all of the viewers guessing. Great work Angie.
She sure avoided THAT question....Fact is, Jane and Maura look at each other with such love in their eyes, a kind of, playful intimacy that yes, leads the lesbian fan base to expect that kiss at any moment. I get that the producers and probably Angie herself did not want the show to go in that blatant direction but I sure as heck don't look at my best friend like that......
Barb Cieri: Heh, heh. This is your second comment that I have read on this thread and in each case I admired and enjoyed your intelligence, "savvy-ness" and your ironic humor. It"s a pleasure to read your commentary and I like what you have to say! kris k.
But the same time i bet you n your friends have never experienced what they have together … its what they have been through together, each have saved each others lives many times, both have come close to death so i guess thats going to effect there mannerism’s towards each other yea, they are both so talented tv has lost such a great group of entertaining thespians 😢
Sounds more like Angie doesn't feel any lesbian tension but the HuffPost person really wants her to. It's almost like media are way more thirsty for gayness than reality provides.
Currently watching the show, there is tension btwn them. I think she feels protective over Sasha's character bc she's so feminine and Angie's character typically is the opposite. I mean she literally wears suits, while Maura is usually in a skirt or dress. Still, the only reason they weren't a couple is bc the producers (possibly actresses) don't want it.
Favorite actress, excellent show. I hated it when she left L&O. In her supporting role as Abby Carmichael, she kicked the show up a notch. Off the charts good looking, voice is uniquely suited to her roles, personality is enchanting. The only other actress that scores these accolades was Lucy Lawless as "Xena Warrior Princess."
i dont know what people expect angie harmon to day... she's answered the question since the show began.. i also don't like the suggestion that just because a woman has a sexy voice and is tough, she is a lesbian.
It has very little to do with how she looks or how she sounds (although I LOVE the way she sounds), it has to do with the way she interacts with her best friend, the love in her eyes when she looks at Maura. She's a cop. She has to be tough, but she's got this connection with a female that is clearly just one small step from 'lesbian'.
As a lesbian I myself am uncomfortable with all that suffocating the lgbt community does to the characters on shows or movies... aaah they r gay, they r lesbian blah blah.... sometimes ots way too much sl of course we do make them feel uncomfortable! And I understand that!
Donna Brooks I don't think it's fair to criticize Harmon for her reply. I mean, the interviewer described Harmon as having a super-sexy voice and bad-ass attitude and with the tension meaning it would make sense that it goes there. Harmon is justifying Jane's character by using her tomboyish ways to stand as a dominant member of the force. The show doesn't make Jane or Maura lesbian or even bisexual so what else does Harmon have to fall on other than Jane's tomboyish ways (and the subtext) to respond to that question? Besides, Harmon's always butchered about the subtext. She's made it known that she doesn't ship Rizzles and the subtext is just part of the acting. Trust me - I'm on your side. Sasha is more open about it in her interviews but if Angie doesn't want to address the question, especially since the plot doesn't address it - then what could you expect Harmon to say? I guess we'll just have to wait until the summer to see what happens next...
Haha I don't know if I'd expect Angie to do all that - would feel a bit out of nowhere considering her previous attitude to the idea (obviously it would be amazing though :P). But I do think she owes Rizzles fans a bit more than what she gave, considering how supportive we are of the show in general. She doesn't have to agree with it, but it would be nice of her to properly acknowledge that it exists, rather than to dismiss it as the fantasies of crazy fans, which is the vibe I get from her.
Donna Brooks What exactly did Angie say that was anti-gay? The characters aren't written that way, so she doesn't by into that subtext...what exactly is wrong with that? It doesn't mean she hates gay people or is anti-gay. It just means she doesn't think that this is who the characters are. That's perfectly fine. She doesn't "owe" anyone anything if that's not how she perceives the character to be.
Donna Brooks "I don't give people points for consistency in their anti-gay comments." Donna Brooks in reply to Enclownter's comment that explained that Angie has always disapproved of the subtext. Also, it's easy to be a big, bad woman on the internet who belittles others and curses at them. Try a little decency and respect sometime. The owing comment was really more directed at another commenter, but as I can't tag two people in the same comment, I knew that person would get a notification when I responded to this comment.
Wow... Can't believe how far this thread has gone... I was going to reply back but since everyone started going back and forth and even throwing me in (lol directed at another commentator) in this whirlwind of a conversation, I'll just say this: Season 5 - Boom. lol I'm sure once Season 5 is over, Angie Harmon will have a lot more subtext questions to answer. Just to agree with Donna Brooks in that yes - there are other TV couples that people can watch. lol and then I turn to the part of the conversation where I - respectfully - disagree. I guess you'll never read this now since you blocked it but I'll just throw it out there... Rizzoli and Isles isn't a show about a lesbian couple... :/ and some people are simply amazed at how awesome Sasha Alexander and Angie Harmon's chemistry is and yet - they're not a couple? It's not that people are "settling" for subtext - it's all that they have. (teehee well until Season 5 - even though it's also subtext but bordering on reality) But how you love co-stars who give the fans what they want - Harmon can't give that unless the script calls for it. That's the reason why I said it's not fair to criticize Harmon for her answer. And just as a 'fyi' - Harmon does love Alexander and acknowledges her as a great actress and friend. Just not in that moment of that interview. There's a clip floating around about Alexander and Harmon interviewing live on some news stations (promoting season 4) and they completely goof off and display some TGTGT lol - oh I believe I just went off on a tangent... But she doesn't ship Rizzles still :( I don't think she's anti-gay but I think she just gets sick of people talking about the subtext when that's not the plot of the show. (Even though it's a big selling point - no one can deny the chemistry.) Well anywhozies, let's just keep the peace people. Stay calm and watch season 5~! Or just watch interviews with Sasha Alexander~!
Didn't realize specific group followings, just know the character are such great friends in a f*cked up world. Suddenly get the "Call" and turn into modern versions of Batman and Robin. Each with believable superpower are put into action. Mix in their collogues and family dynamic makes for a very enjoyable show. Evolving to a lesbian relationship, like any show where main characters get married spells the end of the series. Audience need sexual tension to keep interest.
She’s great! Producers...not everything is about being gay. Let it be just a wonderful friendship and chemistry between two different women. Sheesh! Great show!
Exactly. But nowadays, they feel the need to have gay characters in shows. Guess they think they have to be politically correct. No you don't! I realize that people are gay. I get it. But I watch TV for entertainment and escapism. If I want reality TV, I' ll find a reality channel and watch it.
And you do an awesome job. I never heard of the show for her to the show I was living in Hawaii And when I moved back to California I found you on RUclips. What a connection you 2 make connection you too make. And you. And you should be a lesbian lol you're gorgeous is gorgeous and you know how to handle yourself a handle yourself around the bad asses. Love you Harmon 👩woman.. THANK YOU FOR HELPING THE LESBIAN COMMUNITY OUT.. 💓💗
I say this for all shows that feature two mains as partners be they FF, MM or MF...why is it that when we have a show with two people paired as partners that we ALWAYS have to get them together in some way? Why can't two people just be friends and that's that? Why does there ALWAYS have to be some sort of supposed romantic subtext. Friendship relationships are just as important, people!
Calm your horses, there is nothing wrong with shipping people it's fun. It's not like we want them to be together in real life even though that would be great.
as a gay person I say yes u r right! though its just sometimes its kinda ugly from the producers to make characters u know... gayish... the relationships mmm gayish... so they attract all of the fanbases to watch, straight, gay, nevermind, so they can make the show popular and earn money... So yeah I do very much agree with u, as leabian I sometimes hate how much the lgbt fanbase suffocate actors and actresses with that lgbt 'agenda'... But also producers of movies and shows should not kinda play around and along.... In Xena.... yeah it was clear after sometime that it was not only a subtext anymore, but real relation between the characters, in Criminal Minds I think producers tried to play Emily and JJ in someway so they can attract the gay fanbase, and it is actually very obscenely done with Maura and Jane... U have posters for the seasons with such sexual conotation, then u have both of the characters be with men but u also make them act sometimes very flirtatious or obvious with each other, only to put them back in a 'straight' basket the very same moment... Its kinda also not fair toward the fans of the show... If u understand what I try to say... The same goes for some of the characters in Once Upon a Time if anyone of ylu who watched recall.... Producers danced with scripts on the fine line between gay and straight.... So they could keep all of us interested in the show additionally. To make fanbase connected on a personal level is what sells unfortunately.
when i watched this show for the 1st time I saw it, they have amazing chemistry on screen, i remember me thinking they were in love relationship in the show🤣🤣🤣
I had reservations cuz on NCIS sasha was a wimp as an agent having to be saved by the guys. I love kick ass girls like rizzoli & Ziva! Strong yet feminine Sasha is better suited at this role.
Why can’t two women be friends without all the lezzos TRYING to CONSTANTLY trying to make them lesbians, it’s sickening and it happens in so many shows now, they were just friends in the show!!!
Has nothing to do with her being a tomboy or people judging the show based on their own perception. There are some facts, very visible during the whole show, to judge the relationship between them both, more than just the way her character acted. It's all about subtext. I watched the whole series recently and looking at it with today's eyes, Rizzoli & Isles was a manual for queerbait. I mean, they connected since day one, both had a lot of failed straight relationships and you can't say that with just one of the men they were *barely* dating, was a little chemistry. @@susanchase7880 As I said, R&I was a manual for queerbait, and wasn't the only show that used women's queer-ish non resolved relationships as a bait. You, of course, can say that the secret to acknowledge it is to have the "inclination", 'cause is easier than to think that it was (and sometimes still is, unfortunately) a producers/writers choosen practice to have a targeted public involved...the kind of public that uses to be passionate, which means rating, social media free publicity, ship video edits, etc. I think it's not about have or haven't an "inclination", but about producers' strategy, whether it like it to the actress or not.
Perhaps the innocence of intimate friendship being misconstrued as lesbianism is more a reflection of the state of our society than any "subtext" inherent to the show.
Can two straight females no longer just have a real wonderful close fun loving friendship without lesbianism coming into it? I loved seeing two strong females have such a strong bond, care so much for each and showed it with love and kindness, without any jealousy and be real girlfriends. I saw no lesbian qualities. I thoroughly enjoyed these two’s true friendship. And I’m sad it’s over. Their friendship was my favourite part of this sow.
Your absolutely correct!! It is real sad when two females characters can be close without someone putting a homosexual spin on that personal association!!?? I blame porn and feminist community!!
I never saw lesbian tension, I saw two women who were very good friends and who cared about each other. People love to find lesbian tensions, racism, offensiveness in everything they watch, see or read. They can't just accept that two women or two men can be close without being homosexual.
Loved her answers to hosts questions. Went for authenticity in the role and used her time studying Boston crime unit well. With her looks and voice, there's no way she can credibly wear dresses and heals and appear to be a homicide detective. Jane was written to be an adult tomboy. Maura's character could afford to be more feminine as an ME of a major City. Needs to look sharp for meetings and then throw on the lab coat and face shield for autopsies.
When in college, I did a week long ride along with police officers as part of my studying for a double major of Psychology/Sociology. The lady detective I rode with always wore a pant suit. They never know when they might have to chase somebody, climb up things, tackle somebody, etc. Pant suits just are more practical.
I have watched riz-iles. I believe the producers keep the tension between the two characters On purpose. It is not reality Should either be gay or bi in what reality would they not have kissed or more. Sorry to point out the obvious that's the difference between a lot of american main stream series and european ones. In european ones and more daring us ones at least they show reality in stead of impossible scenario's for several seasons. Hetero people in the same show are kissing, ... when there is tension build up ... it still Amazes me in 2017 that producers aim to please a certain Public in stead of use real live situations.
also they both have done interviews and the touching hasnt been friendly at all especially the video done by rizzles19 clearly shows them non friendly touching and there are other videos on youtube just like that 1 so at times angie says 1 thing but does the opposite i think us fans have a right to be confused and im nottrying to get into trouble im trying to state the obvious

Moura : a doctor who get along well with her best friend / bad ass Jane
She is a some what Shy but confident person
THE PERFECT PPL I SHIP THEM
I love both of the ladies. Angie Harmon and sasha Alexander
In interview she said that rizzoli and ilses are not gay and is just friends who are close thats all like sisters
I've never looked or acted that way with my sister or even friends.
I watched a couple episodes of this recently and never once did the thought of lesbianism cross my mind.
It's an atmosphere that increases as you go through the 1st couple of seasons. As the friendship with Maura grows deeper and stronger there is that lesbian sense. There was one episode that they had to pretend to be lesbians to stave off an old friend of Jane. The books that the show is based on are excellent too.
Wow...i watched it and never picked up on that either!
I agree
To me there best friends
She never answers the question. Every time this subject is brought up she swiftly deflects. STOP SWIFTLY DEFLECTING ANGIE!! Give it to is straight!!! (Or not) ;)
Hha I was thinking the same thing! I was like mg she is avoiding!!! Yet, Sasha openly talks about it ;)
Sasha wants it lol
+CastleBeckettFan2 really xP this is getting interesting then
Lmaooo 😂
She's a devout Christian.
Yes I love her in Rizzoli and Isles. I'm rewatching those shows over each and every day. I got to go watch Law and Order to see my girl Angie as well.
I feel like their such good friends. I'm straight and so is my friend but, we're so close, we danced a waltz together
We love the show, and still watch it every day since it aired it's final episode (which was so hard to watch)
This was a great show!
She is so pretty, one of my favorite shows...
I watch this show everyday. I'm watching it right now.
Really?? I just thought that they were really great friends. To me that is real friendship.
Exactly right!
Do you look at your friends boobs for long? Please the queerbaiting is straightforward in this show, cut the bullshit
She's stunning I love this show
Dare taylor
aAa
No no no
Angie is gorgeous without even trying.
I liked the dynamics of the show they formed a family Jane was funny.
Two women can love each other with it being sexual.
It is not the voice, or the tomboy attitude, its the way they look at eachother, touch at eachother, move around each other...
Ughhhhhh
Sounds more like Angie doesn't feel any lesbian tension but the HuffPost person really wants her to. It's almost like media are way more thirsty for gayness than reality provides.
So well.put!!
I love the show still watch it everyday wished there were new ones
I love how she deflects it all so well that it makes everyone think that the subtext is meant to be there more since no one denies it.
Or because they just are not!
Favorite actress, excellent show. I hated it when she left L&O. In her supporting role as Abby Carmichael, she kicked the show up a notch. Off the charts good looking, voice is uniquely suited to her roles, personality is enchanting. The only other actress that scores these accolades was Lucy Lawless as "Xena Warrior Princess."
i read somewhere she is very religious and i think that may have a part to play in the way she handles the whole lesbian angle of rizzles
That's awesome to hear!
As a Man Angie is a beautiful Feminine Beauty and I'm Glad she has her values and is Married. That's Honorable.
i dont know what people expect angie harmon to day... she's answered the question since the show began.. i also don't like the suggestion that just because a woman has a sexy voice and is tough, she is a lesbian.
That's all we get?? Way to swiftly change the topic Angie... can always count on you...
Donna Brooks
I don't think it's fair to criticize Harmon for her reply.
I was going to reply back but since everyone started going back and forth and even throwing me in (lol directed at another commentator) in this whirlwind of a conversation, I'll just say this:
Season 5 - Boom.
lol I'm sure once Season 5 is over, Angie Harmon will have a lot more subtext questions to answer.
(Even though it's a big selling point - no one can deny the chemistry.)
Well anywhozies, let's just keep the peace people. Stay calm and watch season 5~! Or just watch interviews with Sasha Alexander~!
Love this series
ty for posting
well, she ships it :D
So does Sasha ;)
I am devoted fan, still watching every day and not once has that thought or did I get impression that was going on. 🤔🤔🤔
Miss this show!!!!! I loved all the characters! Mostly Jane and Maura, but loved them all!
Her voice 😍
Yessss
THANK YOU! I saw them as just being best friends.
Law and order SVU kept both Benson and Stabler as friends, as well as keeping my ship Cabson (Alex and Olivia) as just friends and co-workers
as a gay person I say yes u r right! though its just sometimes its kinda ugly from the producers to make characters u know... gayish... the relationships mmm gayish... so they attract all of the fanbases to watch, straight, gay, nevermind, so they can make the show popular and earn money...
Like Elliott and Olivia?
When I saw the commercial of rizzoli and isles I thought they are lesbians.. ..:p
Lakme Kamer same
GREAT SHOW ♥️
I don’t see a deflection. She answered the question. She enjoys playing a Tomboy but it doesn’t mean she has sexual interest in her partner.
Right!
I love her voice,
So good 👍
when i watched this show for the 1st time I saw it, they have amazing chemistry on screen, i remember me thinking they were in love relationship in the show🤣🤣🤣
I like how she says, I know what I look like. Yes, you are a beauty Angie. We like that.
Rizzoli & Isles are just best friends ....a platonic relationship
Tutune Pan platonic. And I think it could go either way. Some days I'm for it and others not so much. It depends on the scene I think
thanx for sharing the same conclusion :-)
no...just BFF
Tutune Pan yea that's why i said thanx for sharing the same conclusion
It’s just deep friendship. It’s a good thing. But people gotta distort and pervert everything.
I had reservations cuz on NCIS sasha was a wimp as an agent having to be saved by the guys. I love kick ass girls like rizzoli & Ziva! Strong yet feminine
Sasha is better suited at this role.
Where and when does this show come on? I’ve seen maybe two episodes a long time ago, but not since then. Anyone?
They are perfect girl friends.
I love that show! And yes very true I always thought they would be together lol... I love Jane
her and sasha don’t follow each other on insta? did they fight?
Miss Rizzoli & Isles I DVR the reruns to have some laughs! would be nice to come back
Jesus, why can’t two women just be friends without having to turn them into a lesbian relationship.
Absolutely correct!! Such a Shame!!
Whenever I get bronchitis I dream I sound like her...😂😂...
🎉 Angie Harman is great
she's stunning
Never ever noticed it
It may come as a shock that two people of the same gender can be close friends without being gay.
If you have the "inclination" you put the label on everyone. If you want to see it, you are going to see it. I don't see it but enjoyed them anyway.
Gives them a bigger fanbase. See what you wanna see. Heck people its only a tv show. 😊
When is she gonna do that scene with Lexington Steele that she keeps tweeting about?
Loved the show, just the way it was. Nothing was forced in order to be PC. It was all about the story. Easily one of my favorite shows ever.
Good video Good scene 👍
I always loved the "why do you always look like you're going to a photoshoot" comment. Couture at a crime scene with those 4" heels was fabulous.
She looks good in a suit. Anyone else agree
I love her she is down to earth and i love there shoe.
Watch reruns all the time.
also they both have done interviews and the touching hasnt been friendly at all especially the video done by rizzles19 clearly shows them non friendly touching and there are other videos on youtube just like that 1 so at times angie says 1 thing but does the opposite i think us fans have a right to be confused and im nottrying to get into trouble im trying to state the obvious
This comment made no sense to me.... do you mean touching as pushing, shoving, and hitting as in anger. Or loving touches....?
Didn’t she play a lesbian on “30 Rock”? Or was that another one of those rotating ADAs from “Law and Order”? Wait, that was Stephanie March.
her voice
I like watching ur tv show & movies
Your lesbian fan base LOVES YOU Ang❤️
Rizzoli and Isles are good friends I wish I had those kind of friends
they have since that interview told the truth that yes they did play it up and quite possibly the bosses told them to stop playing it as if it was "rizzles" if i can say that
LOL! If I can't learn what is going on between the legs of other people I won't be able to live. I MUST know who is sexing with who and how. How can I hope for a better world otherwise?
ahahaha u r good😉
