Thank you fo for explanation sir.. I understand of the phonemes sir.. there are 3 methods identifying phonemes 1. Minimal pair 2. Contrastive distribution 3. Complementary distribution
Thank you for the very clear explanation sir, after watch this video I started to understand the concept of phonemes and the methods of phonemes identification,
Sorry Sir, I'm difficult to understand about contrastive distribution before, but when I rewatch and listen to your explanation again, I got the point. Thank you for your great explanation about this material, Sir.🙏
Thank you for the explanation sir. What I got from the explanation video is First, the sound can be characterized into two types. -(Phoneme) A voice with the ability to distinguish meaning. - (Allophone) A voice that doesn't have the ability to distinguish meaning. And secondly in this video, we explain several methods to identify phonemes well.
Thank you for the explanation sir. From the video I learned that the smallest unit of language is sound, and phoneme is a type of sound. And I also learned about the method used to identify phonemes. There are three methods used, namely minimal pair, contrastive distribution, and complementary distribution.
Thank you for the explanation sir. So the difference between phoneme and allophone is the ability to distinguish meaning. Phoneme, with the ability to distinguish meaning, and Allophone, without the ability to distinguish meaning. We can identify phonemes with three methods (minimal pair, contrastive distribution, complementary distribution).
I have watched this video. Actually, it was a lil bit difficult for me to understand the materials for the first time. I played this video once again and I understand some points. From this video, I know that there are three types for identifying phonemes, they are: minimal pair, constrastive distribution, and complementary distribution. It looks like easy to understand when I heard the material, but when I tried to practice I'm still find difficulties. Thank you so much for this video, sir. Your videos are really help me to understand phonetics also phonology.
Thank you for the explanation sir. It is an interesting topic to learn. What i got is that sounds as the smallest unit of language were divided into phoneme and allophone. Then students need to know how to identify phonemes by using 3 different methods.
Thank you so much for your explanation video, Sir. Now I know how to identifying phonemes with the three methods explained. Your explanation is very easy to understand.
Very good explanation sir, from the video I understand about sound can be characterized into two types. The first is the sound with the ability to distinguish meaning, the second is the sound that has no ability to distinguish meaning.
Thank you so much for the explanation, Sir. I understand of the differences between Phoneme and Allophone, which the smallest unit of language. Then, there are 3 methods of identifying phonemes such as, minimal pair, contrastive distribution, and complementary distribution.
Thank you for the explanation Sir 🙏🏻 What I can conclude from this video is phonemes is a that can distinguish meaning while allophone is a sound that can't distinguish meaning. However, there are three ways to identify a phonemes which are ; minimal pair, contrastive distribution and complementary distributor. Dian Zelly.B/ NK2 - 21
what a clear explanation sir, there are two words with similar phonetic Environment that have : the same number of segments, only one different segment, and different meaning thank you sir
thank you for explanation sir. in this video i understand what a different from allophone and phoneme. such as, the sound have the ability to different and the sound haven’t ability to differents meaning. Thanks Sir
That's a great explanation sir, now i can easily see the different of phonemes and allomorphes. Ofcourse i can identificate the phonemes with the 3 methods that you explained to us too.
Thank you for the explanation sir, overall I understand about the difference between phoneme and allophone, phoneme is type of sound that has ability to distinguish meaning but allophone doesn't have ability to distinguish meaning. and there are three methodes that we can use to identify phonemes. there are minimal pairs, constrative distribution, and complementary distribution.
Thanks a lot for the explanation sir. Your video is understandable and through your video i can learn more about the concept of phoneme and phoneme identification🙏
Thank you so much for your great and absolutely amazing explanation sir! Now I'm so ready to learn more about phonology and especially now about the smallest pair of phonemes 🙏🏻
Thankyou sir for the explanation, over all i catch the point that the different in generally we could know from allophone and phoneme is the ability to distinguish meaning. Which phoneme with it ability and allophone without ability. Also there are some method to identifying phoneme is minimal pair, contrasstive distribution, and the last is complementary distribution.
i understand about the difference between phoneme and allophone, phoneme is type of sound that has ability to distinguish meaning but allophone doesn't have ability to distinguish meaning. and there are three methodes that we can use to identify phonemes. there are minimal pairs, constrative distribution, and complementary distribution.
Thank you for the explanation this material, Sir. I now understand the material, Sir. But I'm still difficult to distinguish what's the Minimal pairs and what's not the Minimal pairs. Thank you, sir
Sure. But you should be careful in counting the number of phonemes. Sometimes a phoneme represents more than one spelling. For example, the word 'daughter' which is composed of eight letters only has five phonemes.
Thank you for the explanation sir. From this learning video, I got a better understanding of the difference between phonemes and allophones. In simple terms, we can say that phoneme has the ability to distinguish meaning, while allophone does not have the ability to distinguish meaning. And there are also three methods to identify phonemes such as Minimal pair, contrastive distribution, and complementary distribution. But I'm curious why the pronunciation of "car" can be with /ka:r/ and /kha:r/ but they still have the same meaning. What makes them different? And in what condition do we use /ka:r/ or /kha:r/? Thank you sir🙏
They are different sounds but they don't distinguish meaning. Therefore, they are allophones. The case of [kh] is called aspirated sound because it is pronounced with an accompanying forceful expulsion of air. The aspirated sound is experienced by the three voiceless stops /p/, /t/, and /k/. They are aspirated when they are at the beginning of a word and are stressed.
Thank you sir for your explanation.. insyaAllah I understand for the the phonetics explanation, but I am still confused about how I can know the phonemes of the words. Like, the phonetic alphabet for some words. Sometimes I still hesitated on doing that. I hope in the future I can do it without hesitating. Thank you so much sir🙏🏻
Thai you so much for the explanation. But I’m confused about the difference between the method of using minimal pair and contrastive distribution since they’re both comparing the different sounds that distinguish meaning😢
A minimal pair consists of two words that (1) have the same number of segments, (2) have only one different segment, and (3) have different meaning. Meanwhile, two sounds are said to be in contrastive distribution if they occur in the same phonetic environment but lead to a difference in meaning. The sounds that are contrasted should not have the same number of segments and should have only one different segment, but the sounds contrasted must be in the same position.
Thankyou for the explanation sir. I want to ask about similar pairs. which one the main characteristic of similar pairs in a sound sir? how can we know that sound is including in minimal pairs, sir? thankyou sir
Two words can be regarded as a minimal pair if they (1) have the same number of segments, (2) have only one different segment, and (3) have different meaning.
Thank you for the explanation, sir. I learned that sound is the smallest unit of language. Also, a phoneme is a type of sound. And three methods were used, to identify the phonemes there are: 1. minimal pair 2. contrastive distribution 3. complementary distribution. Enda Heriska -21019038 NK-21
Thanks for the explaination, Sir. Your video I can understand about phonemes and a little bit about allophone. So, I can conclude that the smallest unit of language is sound. yurika tiara ramanda, 21019114, nk2-21 thank u for the explanation sir from this video i know Phonemes are the smallest unit of language that does not has a specific meaning but can function to distinguish meaning and show a different meaning. Allophones are variations in pronunciation of the same phoneme and does not change the meaning of the word. So the difference is that the phone can change the meaning while the allophone can't. there are 3 method to identifying phonemes: minimal pair, cobtastive distribution, and complementary distribution.

No, it's not. The smallest meaningful unit of a language is morpheme. A phoneme has no meaning, but it has the ability to distinguish meaning.
