complementary distribution
Good vid, but it should have been [s] and [z] (not /s/ and /z/) are in contrastive distribution, so that you were comparing like with like, and not being circular (slashes indicate phonemes which by definition are in contrastive distribution). Phonemes are the smallest *word* (not meaning) distinguishing unit in a language. Adding a rising tone in English changes the meaning of an utterance from a statement to a question. That does not mean that a rising tone in English is a phoneme, because it does not change any word into a different word.

Very nice
Thanksss🙏🏻🙏🏻
Good video on alophones
That's a clear explanation and that was very helpful. And could you help me to answer this: "How are phonemes classified? "
I'm not a native english speaker and I'm so very confused when it comes to phones and phonemes. I get and know all the facts, but I still don't fully understand the difference...
Why are [p] and [b] two different phonemes and not two different phones? Just for the semantic meaning? Is /p/ only a sound and [p] we can put in a word that later has a semantic meaning? I'm so sorry for this, I hope you'll reply and help :)
PS: thanks for the videos!
/b/ and /p/ are two morphemes in English because 'back' and 'pack' mean two different things, i.e. they are a minimal pair.
I'm glad someone understands all the bits and pieces of language because I sure as Hell don't, haha.
Thank sir😗
Thank you sir
See you every Wednesday!
