- Discover CANADA - Hiking Columbia Icefield Toe of the Athabasca Glacier Trailhead
The Athabasca Glacier is one of six major outlet glaciers on the Columbia Icefield in Canadian Rocky Mountains. The Columbia Icefield at 325 sq km (126 sq miles) is the largest icefield in the interior of all of North America and the Athabasca Glacier is certainly the most easily viewed and "touched" by human feet! Most other glaciers require long hikes or climbs beyond the average hiker and certainly beyond the typical tourist. This glacier makes up only 2% of the total mass of the Columbia Icefield. This short hike is found along the Icefields Parkway in Alberta, approximately 129 km (80.3 mi) north of Lake Louise, or 103 km (64 mi) south of Jasper. The trailhead is directly across from the Icefields Centre which cannot be missed on the Icefields Parkway which does require a park permit to enter and to travel on.

Amazing hiking of the Athabasca Glacier! Beautiful nature! Thank you for the video!
Our pleasure!
Wow magnifique partage 😍👍🏼👌💚
I love the glacier! I was able to explore it from the inside.
That is awesome, are you running on of those Ice Walks? Do we need someone to guide us - or people in general can go as long as they know what they are doing?
@@lvfreeAdventuresno, I don’t run them. There is an outfitter called Live It Up Lifestyle Adventures that we booked through. Individuals aren’t allowed to hike the glacier on their own as it’s too dangerous.
@@ArtistryOfAdventure Thank you for info
@@lvfreeAdventuresyou’re very welcome!
Beautiful 😍❤️
I think last time you went on the coach but the hike is better because of all the stunning scenery. Excellent video ..really enjoyed it
You are right, this one is free and very nice walk. There is 3rd option - Guided Ice Walks where you get close to back wall I think... want to try next time
I visited the Glacier in 1968. 55 years ago it was almost beside the main road. Today, its way in the distance. What a change ! Thanks for the video. Very interesting.
@@pmartin7397 Wow..that is crazy.
@@pmartin7397 Wow, yea - they have few year marks along the road to parking lot and hiking trail which tracks glacier retreat
Keep safe my friend
Thank you
Was just there a couple of days ago. Very nice. :-)
❤❤❤
With the free option how close can someone get to the glacier? Can it be walked on?
This video is as far as you can go. If you want to walk on glacier - you will need to pay for guided tour
How do I get permission to enter the park? it's free? And how many miles of walking? Thanks for the video, amazing!
Park passes can be purchased online, at the park gates if driving to the park, or in person at the Visitor Center. For Jasper National park pass - www.jasper.travel/park-pass-faq/
To hike trail in this video - the parking is free, on the other side of Columbia Icefield Glacier center. The hiking trail is short from parking lot - about 1.5km
Hiking lol
Thank you for watching
