I don't understand why so many US citizens feel that they have the right to shut out other immigrants. It used to be that anyone was able to freely immigrate here. My ancestors were immigrants; they came here fleeing oppression and seeking a better life. I'll be willing to guess that yours probably did too. Am I right? And I love having immigrants in my community. They are mostly hard workers and they run a bunch of businesses that I shop at and benefit from weekly: ethnic groceries, restaurants. I want more immigrants, not less. And furthermore, most of the people in the US are not even originally from here. Our ancestors displaced native Americans again and again, so we are not even really living on land that was originally ours. Unless you are Native American, who are you to demand other people be shut out of this land? The only people who have a legitimate voice to claim other people can't come here aren't even being included in the conversation. It just makes no sense. And this is supposedly the land of "freedom". Yet people want to just hoard what they have and keep people away from it. That doesn't sit well with me. It's just a sort of short-sighted tribalism, groupthink. A selfish "I want mine and you can't have it." And this is supposedly from a "Christian" country and a lot of the people voicing these views claim to be "Christian" yet it goes against all of Jesus Christ's teachings.
