  • It’s no secret that it’s been a wild few years for #xbox, with the company struggling to maintain relevance in a sea of competition. The #gaming giant can’t catch a break with the numerous controversies, muted releases, and most recently - the press disaster held by the #ceo, Sarah Bond. This interview came after an announcement that the giant would be shuttering several studios - with the most controversial announcement coming in the form of the closure of Tango Gameworks, which recently published Hi-Fi Rush. This game succeeded in winning Xbox awards and recognition, which was a much-needed win for the company.
However, their hard work was not rewarded as they were closed down unceremoniously anyway. A week after this announcement, the CEO decided to take an interview with Bloomberg, and I thought it’d be a way for the company to explain and rationalise its decision in an attempt to calm tensions.
What happened instead was the CEO going up on stage and making the situation worse by stumbling through simple questions, avoiding answering relevant critiques about their decisions, and not grasping simple facts about the industry she’s in. That’s when it hit me, this is the reason why AAA gaming feels so soulless right now. Xbox used to be one of the gaming greats, and it’s sad to see the pioneers of online multiplayer back in the 2010s slowly fade into irrelevance. This video was so infuriating to watch that I decided to put this one together to analyse and provide a corporate translation of what she said in that infamous interview. As always, please let me know what you think and I’ll do my best to respond to the comments below, thank you for watching!

It's possible, based on the cue cards and the lack of follow up questions, that Microsoft only agreed to the interview if Bloomberg was willing to send them the questions beforehand and not go off script. This has the same vibe as a corporate video conference where the interviewer who works at the company "interviews" their own boss.

The problem with corporations (not just Xbox) these days is very simple and as much as people want to consider these are just conspiracy theories, we have many examples including this one...
