      @@MrsShocoTaco Not so. It's something invented and embraced by media, there is no legal basis in that. Defamation, by the way, is a CIVIL action, not a criminal one, and of the most difficult things to prove in court. The plaintiff has to prove otherwise ... which is impossible, when the proof is presented in court. There is no lawyer anywhere who will represent and bring to court, a defamation case where there is incontrovertible evidence of the action for which accused.

Their job is to avoid a costly lawsuit from assholes who don’t like being referred to as being GUILTY of something BEFORE the trial has even been held! After they’ve been convicted, it is safe to call them a burglar, or rapist or whatever, but too many reporters are too lazy or stupid to understand that and apply it appropriately. @Mandy Last Funny you mention the word "logic" Mandy because I don't see a single bit of it in your comment. She already had the guy's packages in her possession when he caught her. Once he confronted her on video then she put the packages down at which point they were no longer in her possession. Whether you want to admit it or not this woman is a thief... plain and simple. I'm quite certain she can discern between right and wrong so I have zero sympathy for her. Can you comprehend that?

    • @CC-yh2yq
      @CC-yh2yq 3 года назад +4

      @Mandy Last lol mandy, you are so wrong. An attempted murder shows murderous intent, and therefore the law ( that is trying to protect society) therefore jails you for attempted murder/ premeditation to attempt murder- as it is in fact against the law. The point of the law is protecting/ preventing from crime. So if someone has sufficient evidence to prove someone was about to do something, but was unlucky enough to get caught doing it therefore didn’t follow through( as with the case of attempted theft here) . It doesn’t matter that she didn’t actually steal it, she stole someone else’s identity, stole £1000 of their stuff that they needed for their business- which isn’t an insignificant amount. The only reason she couldn’t follow through os because he had a camera on her, and if she got caught actually doing it, then her sentence would be longer. Don’t be sorry for this thief, only crying for themselves because they got caught. She clearly showed intent, at it is important to stop thieves. She did pick it up, carried it off his property and infact dropped it harshly on the ground; cannot go unpunished or she will do so again. Don’t enable thievery . By campaigning about her and people who got caught in the act’s innocence- you are enabling them to hurt more people and impact their lives and livelihoods.

Those packages contained the replacement parts for your aging mother's broken emphysema oxygen tank and now it'll take another six weeks to reorder them while your mother suffers and suffocates. NOW what's your idea for a punishment?
      Far as I am concerned four years sounds about right. Almost guaranteed she won't do that again after that stint. But stick her on house arrest for three months and she'll steal again and next time your mother might not get her parts in time....

    When I was 14 I stole for the first time ever. I was with some friends and thought I’d show off so I pushed a kid off his scooter and rode off with it. When I got home I felt so bad and my father came out and I told him what I did and I wanted to take it back but I didn’t want to get caught. My father told me I have 2 choices. Take it back and apologize and hope they don’t call the police or he would smack the shit out of me and he would call the police himself. Needless to say I knocked on the door holding my head in shame told the kid and parents I was sorry. They said they wouldn’t call the police because I seemed genuine in my apology. When I got back home my video game system was sitting on the table. I asked my dad what are you doing with it. He said you bought this with your own money but I’m stealing it and it’s mine now. He made me work to get it back. I have never stole anything since because I had known I did something wrong but just as important I had someone on my life that made sure I knew I did something wrong. Thank You dad for keeping me on the right path!!!!

I too am blessed with the same type of parents who were hard on me when necessary, but it was motivated by love and they kept me on the straight and narrow. I'm guessing some people here don't actually know how the law works. For one, many times the judge won't *let* someone plead guilty at arraignment. If you have an attorney, they aren't going to let you plead guilty either. The crime they'll actually stick her with will be something akin to "misappropriation of goods" or some such, which is more in line with what she did, and that's what she's hoping to get. The cops aren't going to charge you with what you are actually guilty of, they're going to try to inflate it a bit so you'll eventually plead guilty to what actually fits what you did. I've spent enough time in a courtroom as a victim to see exactly how they do it most of the time. Some kids who stole stuff from my bicycle got charged with all sorts of nonsense just so they could get them with petit theft in the end.

People need to realize their actions have consequences and you need to pay for them. Otherwise, they will keep on doing the exact thing over and over again because the punishment did not teach them their lesson. They go on about life thinking their actions are superior to everyone else’s and they are WRONG. This is not her first or second chance. As u can see by her charges, she’s done this multiple times. The theft & other charges were just an added bonus. 😹. EDIT: no one bailed her out. Numerous tips were sent to police by family and friends. That’s how she was found at the hotel. It's everyone else! Why are you bothering me!?" Reserves. Bloke should've fetched her an almighty four knuckler to the nose! Through the tears and blood... she mightve seen things a bit more clearly...! I hope she got the maximum jail time, trouble is, even if she did, it's now hard-working, taxpayers who are keeping her fat arse in jail and providing her food, drink, a bed, etc, so in the end, I suppose she got what she wanted in a way... something for nothing, paid for by someone else... hope the porridge tastes like ready-mix concrete...!!!

      a not guilty plea at arraignment IS A LEGAL MANEUVER intended to assert a person's right to a trial and to position them for a lighter sentence than had they pleaded guilty outright.

    • @righttorecord3538
      @righttorecord3538 6 лет назад +12

      iggy082 - Wrong. A plea bargain is the only way to assure a lighter sentence. You insist on a trial when you are blatantly guilty and the court will hammer you. Courts are like all other bureaucracies where money is the most important thing. Making a jurisdiction waste money on a trial when you were caught in the act pisses judges off. It also demonstrates you (1) don't take responsibility for your actions, (2) have no remorse for your actions, and (3) believe you should get away with your crimes, all of which get you a stiffer sentence.
