Corey Anderson said: "Our prison system is over crowded with non violent criminals. Let's fill them up even more with women who steal Fed Ex packages." What is your proposed solution? Wait, let's say it was YOUR packages she tried to steal AND damaged them when she dropped them. Those packages contained the replacement parts for your aging mother's broken emphysema oxygen tank and now it'll take another six weeks to reorder them while your mother suffers and suffocates. NOW what's your idea for a punishment? Far as I am concerned four years sounds about right. Almost guaranteed she won't do that again after that stint. But stick her on house arrest for three months and she'll steal again and next time your mother might not get her parts in time....
I agree. People work hard to purchase items and then they are taken from their own property. Even if it isn’t, medication is often shipped and can really hurt someone if they don’t get it.
I’d love to understand how she computes this sequence of events and arrives at the conclusion of “not guilty”. I’d love to see the logic diagram she used when she concluded this.
When I was 14 I stole for the first time ever. I was with some friends and thought I’d show off so I pushed a kid off his scooter and rode off with it. When I got home I felt so bad and my father came out and I told him what I did and I wanted to take it back but I didn’t want to get caught. My father told me I have 2 choices. Take it back and apologize and hope they don’t call the police or he would smack the shit out of me and he would call the police himself. Needless to say I knocked on the door holding my head in shame told the kid and parents I was sorry. They said they wouldn’t call the police because I seemed genuine in my apology. When I got back home my video game system was sitting on the table. I asked my dad what are you doing with it. He said you bought this with your own money but I’m stealing it and it’s mine now. He made me work to get it back. I have never stole anything since because I had known I did something wrong but just as important I had someone on my life that made sure I knew I did something wrong. Thank You dad for keeping me on the right path!!!!
Sounds like your dad is everything a good dad should be. And I'm willing to bet he was proud of you for feeling bad about what you did, but he knew he had a hard lesson to teach and had to follow through with it. I too am blessed with the same type of parents who were hard on me when necessary, but it was motivated by love and they kept me on the straight and narrow. I'm 61 now and I'm grateful to them every day for teaching me the right life lessons. Thanks for the story, and take care!
I was raised by a single father after my mother died. He always told us "Don't do what I tell you to do, do what you know I'd want you to do" That piece of advice kept me outta trouble for 57yrs so far. Seems to be working out for my 2sons too.
I'm guessing some people here don't actually know how the law works. For one, many times the judge won't *let* someone plead guilty at arraignment. If you have an attorney, they aren't going to let you plead guilty either. The crime they'll actually stick her with will be something akin to "misappropriation of goods" or some such, which is more in line with what she did, and that's what she's hoping to get. The cops aren't going to charge you with what you are actually guilty of, they're going to try to inflate it a bit so you'll eventually plead guilty to what actually fits what you did. I've spent enough time in a courtroom as a victim to see exactly how they do it most of the time. Some kids who stole stuff from my bicycle got charged with all sorts of nonsense just so they could get them with petit theft in the end.
Yep you can plead not guilty even when theres video proof that you did it , and you're likely to get away with it with the help of taxed-paid free lawyer... Isn't America GREAT?!

a not guilty plea at arraignment IS A LEGAL MANEUVER intended to assert a person's right to a trial and to position them for a lighter sentence than had they pleaded guilty outright.
iggy082 - Wrong. A plea bargain is the only way to assure a lighter sentence. You insist on a trial when you are blatantly guilty and the court will hammer you. Courts are like all other bureaucracies where money is the most important thing. Making a jurisdiction waste money on a trial when you were caught in the act pisses judges off. It also demonstrates you (1) don't take responsibility for your actions, (2) have no remorse for your actions, and (3) believe you should get away with your crimes, all of which get you a stiffer sentence.

“Not guilty” plead is a constitutional right intended to protect you from wrongly prosecuted, and prevent the government from prosecuting you for any made up reasons. Innocent until proven guilty means, it’s the job of the government to prove that you are indeed guilty. What this woman did is worse than murder, in my opinion. What is your proposed solution? Wait, let's say it was YOUR packages she tried to steal AND damaged them when she dropped them. Those packages contained the replacement parts for your aging mother's broken emphysema oxygen tank and now it'll take another six weeks to reorder them while your mother suffers and suffocates. NOW what's your idea for a punishment?

Thank you for sharing this story. Have a good life!

Sounds like your dad is everything a good dad should be. And I'm willing to bet he was proud of you for feeling bad about what you did, but he knew he had a hard lesson to teach and had to follow through with it. pleaded “Not guilty”?! Damn she made her own trial even more difficult.
She probably thinks she’s not guilty because she threw the stuff on the ground.
She’s trying to delay the case
She didn't claim tobe a smart person just not a guilty person :):):):)

attilafry Wrong. Degree of punishment is VERY important. How will anyone learn their lesson if the punishment is too passive? People need to realize their actions have consequences and you need to pay for them. Otherwise, they will keep on doing the exact thing over and over again because the punishment did not teach them their lesson. They go on about life thinking their actions are superior to everyone else’s and they are WRONG. This is not her first or second chance. As u can see by her charges, she’s done this multiple times. a not guilty plea at arraignment IS A LEGAL MANEUVER intended to assert a person's right to a trial and to position them for a lighter sentence than had they pleaded guilty outright.
iggy082 - Wrong.
It’s hardly “alleged” when there’s video proof.
