    On a positive note, I checked my recommended sharpening stones when uploading this video, and they are all back in stock! Some of the shaptons are $35!!!🤯 The links are in the description. I wouldnt wait if you are thinking about picking one up, since some were out of stock for months. Anyway Thanks again for all the support, I hope to be back to normal sooner than later🤞

    15 of the guys in my platoon from Desert Storm died with ALS, a few more of us had chemical weapons residue in our spinal fluids. It is always scary thinking, in 5 years or five more no symptoms yet. Figure last year with a checkup with my doctor being over 50 he wanted to just check for ALS and go over with me on what I was expecting for symptoms showing up. Then again 3 nurses in the family with 2 more in college to also notice things. It gets real when friends, family your age start to pass away and for me that started 20 years ago.

    • @williamallen7836
      @williamallen7836 2 месяца назад +1

      Only problem is, there's no way to just test for ALS. It's a purely clinical differential diagnosis that can take years to accurately diagnosis positive or negative. With no way to be 100% sure. 5 different neurologist can end up giving you 5 different % of certainty of a pos or negative diagnosis. It's the whole reason average life expectation is 5 to 8 years after a positive diag. The person has been living with it for many years undiagnosed. I went through 4 years of trying to figure things out. I was given 3 possibilities, ALS, polyneuropathy, or young on set Parkinson's. None of which are good, but one better then the other 2. Eventually ended up diagnosed as likely Parkinson's. Which was strangly a relief. At least it won't kill me. A true diagnosis of Parkinson's can't happen without an autopsy, so they always say likely. Prayers that you end up dodging any form of neuro degenerative disease. They are the one disease type they can not stop or slow down. They can only manage the symptoms.

    • @PoeLemic
      @PoeLemic 2 месяца назад +1

      @@williamallen7836 You are so right about a pretty short life expectancy after being diagnosed. I had a tenant next to me that got diagnosed with Parkinson's, and he just kept getting worse & worse & worse. Actually, I have a shaky left hand (when I am under lot of stress), and I was examined and found it was an "essential tremor". And, I thought that what he had (at first) might have been that and similar, but no -- it kept getting worse & then more of his body was doing it. And, it got real bad. He got pretty depressed, because he found that there was nothing they could do with his. And, it's sad that he passed earlier this year (no last year -- sorry), and I do miss him. Some diseases are untreatable, unfortunately.

      Doctors are the 3rd leading cause of death in the US. If they're killing at least a quarter of a million American a year, needlessly, these are all preventable errors, then just imagine how many they injure or harm in some other way. Your faith in the American so called healthcare system is entirely misplaced and extremely naive, frankly foolish. Anyone that interacts with this broken system needs to have an advocate working on their behalf. Your doctor does not work for you in this country, they work for your insurance company and that's whose interests they serve.

    Sorry to hear of your troubles. I was diagnosed with MS back in 2007 and have dealt with similar symptoms as you mentioned, there is an Ebb and Flow to the symptoms and depending on things like stress level, heat, being sick or tired, being stuck in traffic, being intoxicated and effectiveness of the medication. Not knowing about the long term effect of these things is scary, but i cant focus on it because the stress will make things worse. At some point i decided to let is go and take what i can from each day. I make more effort to do the things i enjoy since they may not always be there for me tomorrow. For example May-October i fish for striped bass, i go in the surf and fish off the rocks, things which i know might be more dangerous for me as i get weaker and less stable every season, but i know once i cant do it i'll never be able to again, so i push it and take those extra risks to get as much as i can from life. It has also taken a long time for me to listen to my body and to understand if I'm overdoing it and to reel back before issues escalate. This can be tough sometimes as other people might not understand, "you look fine WTF is your problem? Its just walking suck it up." . I hope they get to the bottom of it and you are able to make a full recovery.

    All the best and a swift recovery! I’m really sorry to hear this. Just discovered your channel a couple of months ago and ended up ordering one of those unicorn dual sided Sharpal diamond ‘stones’ .. and I’m hooked on manual knife sharpening now. No turning back.
    I got really good results really fast on the first 3 knives I’ve sharpened and have to thank you for all the great explaining and demonstrating how it’s done. Thanks 🙏🏻
    Get well soon!

      Ha. I'd not just a skill, it's a full blown additction. I comming off of 3 hand surgeries in the past year and haven't been able to use my 'stones' for my good kitchen knives and they need work, badly. Nothing more frustrating than using a dull knife. Nothing more satisfying than sharpening your own and then using it/them.
      Amiright?

    I got dx'd with MS back in 2016 and it's hard and its scary at first. 8 years later, I've learned to live with it and its my 'new normal'. You learn how to manage your energy, time, and efforts to get stuff done while you're feeling 'ok-ish' and you also learn when to rest and take it easy. I'm a knifemaker too but only very very casually now when I have the energy to do so. At this point I'll finish a knife in 6 months or even a year at times lol. But I still enjoy it and when I'm resting then I enjoy watching your videos or other knifemakers here on YT.
    So hang in there! I'm confident you'll be able to adjust be successful too. Just take it easy and as you mentioned stay positive. Even if this sickness doesn't pass it's not game over.

      That's sad that you've lost that much health in less than a decade now. I sure hope it slows down, and you are able to maintain your health. Sometimes, those types of diseases (MS, Parkinson's, etc.) really start slow, but then, once they have started, then they seem to take off really fast and people get worse much quicker than before. And, that happened to a fellow Tenant that I lived by. Well, I said the reply to @brett76544 (above) about it, if you care to read it. Honestly, I hope your health stays good, but if not, do stay positive. That helps.
