Our Farnsey can sing a tender ballad or a full throttle and always have completely control over his voice. Even now in his 70s. I agree with always doing a live performance. He's just a natural entertainer and ALWAYS shows appreciation for not only the audience but the people performing with him. Farnsey is always happy to support another artist. ❤

John is a humongous star in Australia with a string of hits starting in the late 60s. Late 80s and 90s were his best time. How this man was not a huge star all over the world I will never know. Every song on albums Whispering Jack, Age of Reason, Chain Reaction and Then Again are keepers. Stand out tracks You're the Voice, Age of Reason, Burn for You, That's Freedom, Seemed Like a Good idea. So many good tunes to check out. I envy you getting to hear them for the first time. Wish I could get that feeling again. Living Legend and Icon.

He's good mates with Olivia Newton John and they have performed together a few times over the years. They were together singing DARE TO DREAM at the Sydney Opening Ceremony of the Olympics 2000. They also worked together with Anthony Warlow (who was the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera in Australia) in the Main Event. All is on youtube. The other great song in this concert is YOU'RE THE VOICE - again, on youtube. He also does some wonderful work that is on youtube with Jimmy Barnes, Australia's King of Rock. John was born in England in 1949 and came out to Australia living in Melbourne in the 1950's. Same thing applies with ONJ who came to Melbourne with her family at 3 years of age and she was born in 1948. So they both started their Aussie careers in the 1960's and John's break out song was SADIE THE CLEANING LADY in 1967 (again on youtube) when he was 18. He is over 70 now and still performs from time to time. His long time best friend and manager recently died so he might be slowing down now. I don't see him worrying about getting another manager somehow. BTW the Beatles heard this rendition from John and loved it and thought it was better than the original.

As someone who saw John and his band live in the 80s,his 'live' performances are better than film clips because of his incredible stage presence. He is a genuinely nice guy, doesn't take himself seriously (Aussies really appreciate that in a 'celebrity'), and is an entertainer and showman.
As others have said, be sure to react to the many other songs he has on RUclips, as well as Jimmy Barnes (there are a few duets with Jimmy and John).

It is very often preceded by a positive description appropriate to we everyday mortals e.g. a great or funny or helpful or kind, bloke. An Aussie version would be a "bonza bloke" meaning a great guy. This song, done at the end of this concert, was a kind of thank-you to the audience and his fans for being there to support him. John had a rough time during the mid to late 70s when his career dwindled. He eventually made a comeback, and this was the single that did it, a re-working of The Beatles, "Help". John Lennon loved it and said that he wished that "The Beatles" had done it this way. John went on to an incredible music career gaining many awards and having the highest selling album," Whispering Jack," which went 24X platinum, and more albums and fame. He never sought much fame overseas as he valued his wife, family, friends and the Oz music scene. Sadly, his manager and friend, Glenn Wheatley, who helped John's comeback, died recently. "Farnsey" is respected and loved by Aussies. He is humble, funny, appreciative of his fans, musicians and backing vocalists. And, of course, sooooooo talented! He is charismatic on stage and has the audience with him all the way Because of this you must always watch him LIVE because studio videos do not do him justice. Please react to more of him and you will have many Aussies viewers.

Just to add some more amazing context to this video - Farnham was still smoking when this was recorded. He smoked for almost 30 years and didn't quit 'till 1992! He said that not smoking added even more range to his voice, so, hard as it is to believe, this could have been even better!

My favourite part about any concert is when the whole crowd is singing together. That feels to me like exactly what music was created for. Some of the best moments for me are the huge crowd singing Bohemian Rhapsody before, was it the Offspring, came out for their gig? And any Koolulum performance that has ever been made, and the Aussies singing Land Down Under at the soccer international matches. There is nothing like it.

He is a one of a kind singer and performer, definetly one of the best male singers of all time. He should have been more notised world wide. Another australien singer to carey his legacy in modern time is guy sebastian. Check out his live studio performence of a song called battle scars . He is crazy good. PS. John farnham is still performing and delivers amazing vocals at the age of 72.

Do us all a favour and review the live version of his self composed ballad 'Burn For You'. He wrote it for his wife of many years, Jill, in relation to how he missed he when he was on tour.

This was the last song in a 2hr + set, at a time John was smoking two packs a day. He was the lead singer of Little River Band for a short time (Playing to Win). He has amazing history in musical theatre (Jesus Christ Superstar 1992) and his multi platinum Whispering Jack was the first Australian CD release. Having said all that he is probably most loved for where it all started for him in the 60s with Sadie the Cleaning Lady. While this concert with the MSO was in the 90s, John first released Help in 1980. As unbelievable as it seems, it was his final roll of the dice after having been effectively written off by the Australian music industry for being too scmaltzy and nothing but a teen idol. If it didn't succeed he would have been lost to Australian music forever. As it stands, the rest is history.
If you want more Australian genius, look up a duet with John and Jimmy Barnes (When Something is Wrong with My Baby), Vanessa Amorossi with Natural Woman... buckle up for that... and pretty much anything by Tina Arena.

Great reaction, glad you enjoyed John voice. He is called The Voice in Australia even by his peers, always pitch perfect. Always react to live performance, and he can sing every genre rock, jazz, pop, country, blues anything. He is amazing.

This wasn't 1981, it was 1989 I believe. He released this version of Help on an album called Uncovered in 1980 though.

Power, and Control. One of few performers who do not need studio magic to sound GREAT. I think The Beatles would like this remake of their classic.

What a voice, sent shivers down my spine. Loved the audience participation in this epic concert. Would have loved to have been there. Agree with the comment about Jimmy Barnes, another great performer cut from the same cloth. Wonderful reaction Chad thanks x

Made the Beatles look sad huh? John had number one albums in 5 consecutive decades. He is one of a kind and 72 years old now. At 70 his voice sounded just the same, they didn’t have to change any notes in his music.
Watch him sing You’re The Voice at the same concert with the Orchestra. His band was there too and they are his back up singers. John can sing any genre of music, even Opera with Anthony Warlow. He is funny and kind, he is loved.

Such stage presence & passion. This was the last song in a long concert & he's just as good as the first song. Love John. Must admit that it's only since I've been listening to reactors that I've understood how awesome his vocal abilities are. You are right, it's best to listen live as you get to see his audience reactions as well as his vocal range. I wish I'd been in Melbourne at that concert 💕
