For Persian Haleem, Wheat germ (best in terms of minerals, vitamins, anti inflamation qualities) or barley is the best. If lactose intolerance, use lactose free milk. No meat is vegeterian. To add sugar for breakfast version, shredded turkey is the best.

Thank you so much for sharing your recipes with us, it brings me so much joy to be able to cook dishes like this that remind of my days growing up in Bahrain and eating Iranian inspired food cooked by my grandmother. I was wondering if you had a recipe for a Sholeh (or Aash) as it is known in Bahrain, which is similar to a Halim (or Harees) but contains chickpeas as well. I would be very thankful to be able to cook something that nostalgic. If I remember correctly this food is prepared during Muharam, as it was always given to us by our Iranian neighbours. Thanks again, you are a legend!
