      dragonite and goodra are sooo goofy looking so the idea that a pseudo legendary can’t look goofy is ridiculous. these look great, and the face also references a specific culture, so honestly it’s not even goofy it’s just something the average viewer isn’t used to.

    You should have Humbeat have two evolutions where if you give it an item, Sweet Nectar, it becomes Humipummel. but if you just let it walk and (like its lore) lose the ability to fly it becomes a relaxed, grounded solth-like bird. I think it could really elevate it to be gardevoir type of status.

    Volcorona's definitely what I first thought of and stand by as a great comparison. Slaking as others have mentioned is also another good comparison, and I'll add Aggron as an example too (though Volcorona remains the more apt comparison imo): it's definitely up there as one of those very strong evolution lines, without necessarily filling that strict pseudo-legendary slot.
    ...which I think Peroxotal's line accomplishes better! The greater size allows for that touch more body detail which pushes the conviction of it's pseudo status. The redesigns are a fantastic improvement: I alwayd liked the concept but wasn't as sold by the designs til now. The face DOES look better now on Peroxotal, despite it not really changing a great deal fundamentally.
    If there's one thing I'd consider changing, it's the shiny: the homage to albino axolotl is on point and it's great and looks fine. But I almost want it to lean more heavily into being obviously albino by losing even more pigment and maybe having even paler eyes. This way it might be more reminiscent of a true troglobite such as the olm, a creature often confused with axolotl by laypeople. Cenotes are populated irl by some genuone troglobite species so I thought it made some sense. That's all just personal taste though!

      I know it's probably been too long to weigh in on this, but I agree. Especially bc of the fact that if you aren't familiar with the hummingbird mythology this design is derived from, and their behavior in general (as they can be quite aggressive to each other), it's easy to assume they're just dainty and fragile and small and therefore only use its design like that. It's unassuming because of people's preconceived ideas for hummingbirds, AND because of the baby first form that's typical for a pseudo legendary.

    I love that the ability of the middle stage hummingbird is Truant. Works well with it evolving into a pseudo-legendary too, as it makes it difficult to train the line, making the final evo with its crazy stats feel so much more fufilling. I would love to train one of these guys.
    Also, I loved the Perxotal line with the first designs, but these redesigns are *chefs kiss* so good. I want them to be in the actual games so bad! My only complaint is the ability. Making this mon's ability rain based makes it weaker because in the rain, fire type moves are weaker, meaning it doesn't get a lot of use out of its Fire typing (especially because Fire is a more offensive type). I would say either keep dry skin for the whole line (cause it at least gives it a water immunity) or make up a new ability for it to have instead (which could make its pseudo-legendary status that much more deserved).

  • @SashedPotato
    @SashedPotato 2 года назад +68

    Personally I think the design is sssooooooo close to being pseudo legendary worthy. Although we want it to be light, I think a tiny bit more of the armoured aesthetic of its preevolutions would convey that factor. Also I never know whether this idea is seen, but how about a line based on popocatepetl and itztaccihuatl. Its a story akin to an aztec romeo and Juliet where a warrior goes to war and itztaccihuatl died of grief after being told her partner died, and then the warrior, popocatepetl returned and stood by her grave until snow piled on both and they became two snow capped volcanoes! Maybe there could be a duo of little ice gnomes with pointy heads that become an ice fire type, that's a two in one pokemon.

      Agreed, I think you could lean into the Fighting type a bit more with some additional weaponry/armor to give it a more complex form. The wings look great, especially the lower elements which might look like rapidly-flapping wings, but I think the simple, round body is holding it back from looking pseudo-legendary. Which is fine, but I love this concept and think it would be a great second pseudo-legendary. I think the final evos of Peroxotal need a new ability that helps them in rain, but also lets them use their fire-type attacks effectively. So I present a new ability for this pseudo-legendary: "Rising heat"
    Rising heat will prevent fire type moves power from being decreased by weather effects (for now only rain). Water types also lose their type resistance.
    Basically, you would hit water pokemon like if it were a neutral attack, & water/grass (for example) *super-effectively.*

It could be like Volcarona. Semi-pseudo, like other comments have said. I love how watching this series gives a level of insight (theoretically) into how Pokemon are designed in the first place. I can see it as the cyclical process of an artist submitting a design, then getting it commented on and critiqued by peers and panels alike, revisiting and editing designs as necessary (or just as the artist pleases). It takes us from the first draft of a good concept with some wonky and not widely understandable design choices all the way to the later drafts after they've gone through the wringer and certain artistic visions have been compromised while others have held their ground either due to lack of pushback or simple declarations of "IT STAYS". And of course, I love these redesigns, it feels MUCH more like a super-formidable Pokemon that can only be caught naturally really late in the game and is probably on the champion's team.

    To be honest xolsmol looks quite a bit like a water grass type, I love the idea of a flickering flame for the gills, but to me it looks surprisingly like a blooming flower, also, in xolsmol's description it mentions its moist skin, but its ability is dry skin, I'm aware this is for gameplay reasons but maybe keep them consistent? Amphibark is very nice, especially the ears which resemble more of a flame with the shape and colors, although I think it would look best if the ears were less orange and the body maybe more of a purple? In my opinion the current color scheme looks a lot like a muted mudkip. Peraxotal is another great design that I love, my only worries are the color scheme, which carries on from Amphibark and the tongue. I'm quite confused by the tongue, is there any reason for the tongue change in each evolution? Considering it keeping the colors from the previous stage, is there a reason for the tongue color? Another concern is the ears looking very leaf-like with the shape, the color scheme is very nice, amazing job on the gradient, but it seems like a rigid, weathered, autumn leaf. Burbrawl looks amazing, I love the design, my main issue is that it looks very similar to pokios from mario odyssey, with the darker colors and the red, as well as the green helmet. Humbeat is another amazing pokemon design with a fun and unique design inspiration, my only problem again, being the color, to me at least, it reminds me quite a bit of decidueye. Humipummel is an amazing finisher to the line and I have no complaints I quite like the painted look you get from the green on the bottom wings and bun. Amazing video, keep up the good work!

    Despite this, however, I really DON’T think it would work as a Pseudo-Legendary. Mostly just due to what you brought up, with how doesn’t look big or tough enough (especially with it only being 1’11’’). But also, we haven’t gotten 2 pseudo-legendaries in one game since Gen 3. While it would be cool, I personally don’t see it ever happening again, especially with Peroxotal already breaking the tradition of not being a dragon type.

    Love the Burbrawl line and the concept behind it, awesome stuff. But talking about the macuahuitl made my think that the weapon itself is a good idea for a pokemon. First thing that comes to mind is a rock/poison type. Rock cos of the obsidian (of course) but poison cos of the macuahuitl's "teeth", while sharp, were also brittle and meant to break off and stay inside of the wound (weird take on the poison aspect). Maybe some sort of crocodile, idk.

      No but seriously that typing makes no sense( Rock/poison), You wanna get technical based on the inspiration (Huitzilopochtli) they should be fighting/fire since the deity is most famously known for being the god of the Sun & War.
