Question to anyone who reads this: What are some ways you measure personal growth and technical progress outside of promotions when you feel like any techniques or concepts you try to execute/implement are getting stuffed by your training partners?
How about if your coach gave you your purple belt and knew you weren't quite ready but believed you could grow into it, but then you didn't train for three years and now you moved town and can't bring yourself to wear it?
I would still wear the belt your coach promoted you to. Ultimately the decision is yours and I hope you decide to return to training Jiu Jitsu. Wishing you all the best!
Parental situations can vary. My son has been training with me on and off since 2006 and I have been very tough on him with promotions. He is a blue belt with no stripes, but his situation with me is not the norm for regular students.
He took all four of my stripes and was going to promote me to blue belt. My sister was graduating so I told him in advance I wasn’t able to make it, he told me it wasn’t his problem and when I show up to class Monday he had me grab my belt and strips all four of my stripes in front of my classmates saying that by missing graduation I disrespected the gym
@101amuro from what you have described I honestly would recommend finding a new place to train. You were absolutely 💯 right to attend your sister's graduation rather than a BJJ school promotion ceremony. Family 👪 should always come first in my humble opinion
@@101amuro I will make this a Question of the Week video and try to complete it tomorrow and post it. My e-mail is smalaziz@hotmail.com if you would like to correspond privately and I can help you find a new school in your area and try my best to help you.

I took a long time off and eventually came back. It was like I remembered the plot, but not the characters.
Glad that you returned to BJJ my friend.

@@semperfortisjiujitsu thanks prof. I'm grappling with it. Pun intended
@@murco7658 if you are ever in San Antonio please stop in and train with me. No mat fee.

My father demoted me 4 stripes when I took 2 years off

My prof demoted me for missing graduation, he said I disrespected the gym.
I am sad to hear that. I wish you the best in your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey.
