    As far as kicking someone out of the school for being convicted of sexual assault or of assault of any kind on a child, I completely agree with you because what if youre the one who teaches them the techniques that they use to assault their partner or God forbid a child. I'd never forgive myself.

    • @semperfortisjiujitsu

      Unfortunately there is not a perfect answer to this problem. There are going to be a possibility of false accusations and sometimes people are found innocent in court who actually committed the crime but were not convicted due to lack of evidence. Both men and women are capable of lying.

    What a moron. So if the owner is accused, he what? Kicks himself out of the school until 2 years later when a court finds him innocent? Douche bag. As much as men commit violent acts, the same goes for women making up false accusations. Women don’t use violence, they use their ability to act like a victim. This guy has a white belt in life.

    after continuing to watch the video I saw where he was talking about suspension for accusations. - I think a lot would agree that's not appropriate. I think having said person on your radar is important, because you'll want to keep an eye on that person, especially someone displaying behavior that is inline with said accusations, and remove them if necessary. I think a certain degree of tact needs to be applied.. if the person is found guilty than yeah out with ya, but if it's an accusation, and it's not a rumor in the gym spreading like wildfire and it's kept quiet, why boot that person? I think it's a slippery slope to go off any accusation. but if it is a rumor caught wildfire, then yeah you have to preserve your dojo and remove the person. that could affect moral, and interpersonal relationships within the gym... you want people focusing on sharing, teaching, and growing... not all kinds of external dilemmas and drama. saw the later part about DV - yeah I agree in that case, even though it was only accusation at that point.. he already had a conviction of DV and was on probation for it... I think it was absolutely the right call.. my point is simply that you should give someone the benefit of the doubt - but also apply tact if someone is displaying behavior in line with, already had prior issues with, or is guilty of... then yeah you want to preserve the sanctity of your dojo.

    • @semperfortisjiujitsu
      @semperfortisjiujitsu День назад

      I agree it is an uneasy situation to boot someone who hasn't been convicted. For me if the person has been arrested and indicted for rape or child molestation I am not going to allow them to continue to train while the court case is ongoing and i would suspend them until the case is resolved.

      @@semperfortisjiujitsu you know.. coming back to to read this... I have a hard time disagreeing with you. It makes sense what you're saying. I've never had to deal with those issues and I've helped run dojos. • @TherealMarkyMars
    @TherealMarkyMars День назад

    sounds like SA is turning into a Californication ... aside from the wokeness, and addressing the dojo question... the people should all be there to learn and get better together, and often a team cohesiveness.... the more experienced help the less, knowledge is passed down between people.. when you have someone intentionally looking to harm others it takes away from the dojo. and it shows a complete disregard for others, a lack of respect to others (and the dojo!), egregious behavior imo... at the very least your enforcer needs to put that guy in his place... most dojo's have a 'mat enforcer' - I never trained at your place while at FtSam - but I'll be sure to check it out next time we're over there...

    I agree with pretty much everything said. I have kicked a few out for these things. I will say though I wont kick someone out simply based on an accusation made away from the school. I see false SA/CM accusation all the time and have even had these made towards me. So there is dilemma of I want to promote this person because they have put in a lot of time but it's going to come with this weight of responsibility.

    Nobody is out there saying we'll promote you if you come over here lol If that were real we'd all know the gym. Nobody should stay loyal to anyone but themselves. You should check out all the gyms in town to find the one that best suits you. This whole video is giving you being mad someone went to another gym, saw it better fitted them, left, & you're mad because of it. A gym not having a public open mat is a red flag. A coach making a video calling out any particular student, ever, for any reason, is never acceptable. You're outright calling someone out & you know it. Not a single person "online" will know so you can play ignorant to it, but every single person at both schools will know exactly who you're talking about, and not only will they know who you're talking about but you're by proxy implying that "your belts are worth more" than whatever school he went to. Maybe he just values something different than you do? Everything about this screams inexperience.

    I trained with Rickson the mid-1990s, a great time to be alive. I know for a fact that he tapped some world champions that were near the top of their game in late 1990s and the early 2000s - I could name a couple but I won't - Rickson also submitted ever black belt he faced in competition. But I also know he struggled with a few in training as he got older. His skills today would allow him to destroy 80% of black belts out there. Where he would need to be trained is mostly in modern berimbolo type movements, guard passing against modern guards, and leg locks. There has been an explosion to techniques and strategies and he would need a few years to catch up for the competition arena. Also, people have become much more athletic with high level wrestlers getting into it so that would be an issue as Rickson is not a big guy. I watched Kron Gracie submit a whole room of brown and black belts over 10 years ago. I suspect Rickson would do it much more efficiently. Is he going to toy with muscled world champion heavyweights like Galvao? Of course not. But Rickson would be highly competitive given a new body, youth, and a few years to catch up with the modern game.

    My Rickson Gracie experience: My training experience, aikido, shotokan karate, and standing style jujitsu. Out of curiosity, I trained with Rickson when he first came on the scene in the early 90's/early UFC days while, he consulted members of then SEAL Team 6, we went one on one after his seminar, it didn't go well because he countered my ippon-seoi-nage in such a way that it ended with me receiving a spiral fracture on my right ankle because he squatted and took me down from the side, the force of the counter went vertical my ankle rolled out, I still have the X-ray.

    Presenters are running a business. At the end of the day they need to show a return on their investments and pay insurance. Further people train for different reasons it's not always about external competition but internal competition.
