BMW 530e - Test Drive and Review

This is the first PHEV on the channel and I'm impressed. The refinement and luxury of a 5-series BMW couple with a combustion engine and electric motor.

Great review I collected mine earlier this week after P/X my 2016 X5. Lovely car but surprised for an M Sport It does not have much in the way of extras compared to the X5

I think unfortunately BMW’s in general don’t come with much spec out of the box, everything is a paid for extra. I’ve seen brand new BMs without reverse cameras and heated seats that have cost £40k+ the 5 series you have bought is a much more modern interior to your X5 isn’t it, I really like the new styling of BM’s interiors.

@@kylescarstories2141 I agree, yes it’s much more modern then the X5, but it’s very clear a mid range X5 will have more extras than a ‘top of the range’ 5 series. However the car it’s self is superb, build quality good, and the 19 inch wheels really make it look very smart !!

What is the longevity of these batteries. Will we see issues with them after a number of years. I imagine there expensive to replace

Time will tell. I like that Tesla offer 8 year warranties on their batteries.

do you need to charge it ore can you just drive it with the main engine going

You can just drive it without charging it. But unless you want the 530e for company tax relief I’d opt for the 530d if you’re never going to use the electric engine. It would be more economical that way.
