    I played an ancients dex-paladin in Curse of Strahd and wow, was the aura of warding a life saver. The power boost the whole party got by having resistance to spell damage was insane, and between my high dex and both auras I was (minor spoiler) laughing at the fireballs tossed at us in a very evil place

    Mine is an entertainer background and he unknowingly partied with Alonal Lorifil (revelry, hedonism) and woke up a paladin. He’s just jazzed to be on the show man. He plays the Kantele, sings , tells stories, and gets free drinks wherever he goes. He loves putting smiles on faces.

      Yeah same! Folk Hero background works really well for this! It gives you some skill that line up with being a old school laborer who also has also proven to be a bad ass.

    The oath of the ancients is amazing and I actually think the synergy rating should be a 5 as well. The spells you get cover one of the paladins main weaknesses which is crowd control. Now you are a paladin that can keep all the small enemies contained and really dictate the battlefield while having all the tools to take on the main enemy.

    Played a Lev 9 Oath of Ancients Paladin as an NPC within an extended memory scenario within the mind of one of the players. The Paladin was her father in her youth that she did not remember... so two of the party went into her memory and fought along side him against Driders and Choldrith and spider abominations... This Paladin was such a great Father-type for this scenario. He became this type of chill, nature serving Paladin after a past of evil deeds and domination. This subclass is so good for those players who wish to create a character that retains the Paladin knight warrior champion but wants to exclude some of the rigid, stern aspects of paladins. Really good for characters who have seen the light and perfection of the natural world and has it affect their entire creed.

    My fallen Aasimar's father is a paladin who swore the Oath of the Ancients. He was a protector Aasimar named Asif who will show up as an NPC later in the campaign.
    His name means "forgiveness" in Arabic.

  • @konankunoichi94
    @konankunoichi94 2 года назад +1

    Try Satyr as a race. Now youve got advantage on saves against spells, along with the paladins +5 to all saves and resistance to all damage from spells. You become all spellcasting npc's worst nightmare. and paladins naturally get high ac, take a couple levels in to hexblade and you get shield and wont have to waste ASI's on strength.

    Thanks for these subclass videos. I'm thinking about making this my next character after my Sword Bar dies. We're pretty silly in our campaign, so I'm pretty prone to making this guy 'The Pothead Paladin', who's holy conquest is to spread good vibes and stop those who would be dicks to nature.

    During the first campaign I played in we had to fight a 7th level sorcerer who hit us with 4 fireballs (DM allows for quickened spell to allow for 2 spells being cast in one turn.) in 2 rounds. Granted we were roughly 16th level at the time but all together hitting 3/5 party members we took collectively less than 100 damage.

    What would a holy symbol for these paladins be, because from what I see they don’t worship a god but the earth, like a druid does?

    • @marygentile7385

      I'm actually playing a Triton Oath of the Ancients right now and she follows a deity known as the Deep Sashelas. His domains include Knowledge, Ocean, and Nature and he values creation of life and plants pretty much above all. I found that he fits in very well for the RP style that this subclass encourages and also has a nice tie-in with her race. But in general, I think deities that have domains in Life, Light, or Nature can work out very well. Whenever I, or someone I know, is looking for inspiration for a deity, I also direct them to this site: forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Deities_by_domain
      It has a bunch of domains and example gods to browse through. Hope this helps!

    • @URGE

      They do have deep ties to nature like druids, so something like animals, horns/antlers, or plants would be commonplace. The PHB even says "They adorn their armor and clothing with images of growing things-leaves, antlers, or flowers-to reflect their commitment to preserving life and light in the world." I think a paladin serving Pelor would fit in very well or other nature/life/light based gods or as you said nature itself. Thanks for watching!

      My OotA paladin was the champion of a Great Deku-like tree in an enchanted forest. His Holy Symbol was a "Gnarled Root of the Great _______ Tree."
      Like a fossilized root. Something that'd come up out the ground, been broken off, then hardened.

    • @thefracturedbutwhole5475

      A paladin with the Oath of the Ancients isn't necessarily a champion of nature. They're actually more of a champion of people than nature. Look at the specifics of their oath: They're supposed to be merciful, kind, and forgiving. They're supposed to defend "good, beauty, love, and laughter". They're supposed to "delight in song and laughter, in beauty and art". Lastly, they're supposed to "be a glorious beacon for all who live in despair."
      Their powers might come from nature, but they aren't necessarily about nature. They're about life, in all its forms. It would seem they're especially concerned with sentient life too, since they've sworn to defend art and music and drive away despair. You tend not to find those things in the natural world.
      I think Oath of the Ancients Paladins are related to nature because their tradition is older than civilization. It's Oath of the Ancients after all. You could just worship nature like a druid or it could just as easily be a god of nature or beauty, art, life or even death . . . It could even be an Archfey.

    Okay, the way you guys describe these oaths make me even more indecisive as to what oath my paladin will be taking soon. This is my first DnD game and I'm completely overwhelmed. But you SELL the HELL out of all the oaths XD. Originally, I was going to go with Oath of the Ancients, *BUT* I'm also very interested in Oath of Vengeance. How do I even choose?! The Aura for OA seems like a no brainer. Sigh. How. Do. I. Choose?!?!
    Edit: I don't know if it's relevant, but I'm playing a Moon Elf Paladin. Can you guys help me somehow? My DM is getting super irritated with all my questions and indecisiveness. We just leveled to 2 and I'm getting my Divine Smite, plus two spells I think? I'm struggling with those too.

      Just go for what suits the backstory or your paladin is or who you want them to be. Don't worry about trying to choose a powerful oath, they are all good. As for spells - you'll probably use most of them as smites, but I always find bless is a nice spell to help out your party as the bonus on attack rolls and saving throws can make a big difference (and cos its nice to be nice)

    • @thefracturedbutwhole5475
      @thefracturedbutwhole5475 4 года назад +1

      No you can't! The Elder Champion ability let's you cast a Paladin spell with a casting time of 1 action as a bonus action instead, it does not let you ignore the other rules of spellcasting, such as, if on your turn you use a spell slot to cast a spell (either as an action or a bonus action) you can't cast another spell on the same turn except for a cantrip, there are exceptions, a Sorcerers twinned spell metamagic can sort of cast 2 spells but there are restrictions (has to target be a single target non AoE spell), a Fighter's action Surge however let's you say 'fuck you' to the rules and cast an 8th and 9th level spell on a single turn (presuming you can, like a Fighter 2/Sorcerer 18).
