- Hi beautiful people!
I am back, I was in vacation mode and had a hard time readjusting to reality.
This video is the last part of my mini series in ICU gatekeeping. I hope my story serves as an example to other nurses wanting to apply to ICU. Do not be discouraged, if you want to become an ICU nurse, keep applying and keep pushing
#nursing #nurse #icunurse
Reason was simple: You are a smart, beautiful, black nurse.
It's not just ICU's. They try to keep black nurses out of every speciality area if at all possible. They hate for us to have RN after our name to began with and how dare you feel like you are good enough to specialize.
Honestly, I didn’t know this until I brought this topic up on TikTok! I was floored by the stories told by black nurses who were denied Pediatrics, OB, NICU, etc!!!
Yes,specific areas of specialty are difficult to get into for black nurses and I believe the state/city you work in also is a significant factor.
@@franchescar5252 Anywhere racism resides.
This is so sad. I really do not get how people can think nursing ability and patient care is equal to or dependent on skin color.
Excuse me, but not all white people feel that way, I would much rather you care for my child or myself than some sleezy ,corrupt old out of touch , pedophilic white man. And Yes , I’m white😅
What comes around goes around hallelujah!!!
The lesson in this story!!! Sometimes I don’t believe it.
If security gotta walk you out the building, then you definitely didn't resign in good standing. It's always funny to me, because the people doing dirt are always making trouble for others not realizing that their crap is going to catch up with them.
So very proud of you in all your professional endeavors I’m an 81 year old retired RN years ago we had to strike fans fight to get even a fare salary even then as I worked on ccu as the only black nurse with white nurses I will say this they made it as difficult for me as they could nevertheless I successfully fought the good fight and was successful it’s nurses like you that have opened so many doors for us God bless you sweetheart keep up the good work ❤️
I look up to nurses like you, thank you for all of your services and contributions to the profession. You’ve paved the way for us! ❤️🫶🏾
The algorithm somehow took me to your channel. I'm several videos in now. 😂 Immediately your personality, professionalism, passion for your craft was easy to see. It's blatant to see how wonderful you are. A wonderful human being, educator, straight shooter, and overall healthcare provider. THANK YOU for what you do and how passionate you are in your craft.
The way I’m just smiling imagining her seeing your name there and then seeing you on her unit😊.
Hahaha you got me so well!!!! Priceless moments! ❤️❤️❤️🤣
That hospital has a lot of bad apples. It's good to see change
Too many bad apples! There’s a lot of cleaning up that needs to happen.
That’s what they do….ole Karen was fired. Once security was called, they all had a meeting with her and she was FiReD 😂. Security is called so folks won’t act a fool 😂😅
Wow 😮
What a testament to your grace and strength. God is good.
Karma is a petty bitch and I am so here for it! I enjoyed this story quite a bit.
I am really enjoying these story times RN edition. Thank you !
Hi Kendra, your story is inspiring. I have similar stories as well being a nurse for 20 years. I have been through so much bullying as well and denies positions that I applied for I stood firm and advocate for my self then I become the enemy because I speak up. I am thankful that you are one to spread this kind of awareness to others. Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration to me.
Thank you,
Andrea

You are a great story teller...It's crazy to me this happens in the nursing world.
There is so much I want to say ..I'll just say you are a very blessed beautiful, intelligent woman. I wish you the very best and I hope that if one day I do become an RN I'll advocate for myself because videos like yours and many others have opened my eyes to why It's important to stand up for ourselves.❤
Thank you! I share to help others navigate the profession.

Girlllll. Your storytelling is spot on. I have worked in the ICU for 15+ years as a tech. I am now in nursing school with 10 months left to go. I have seen some bullying and similar situations. I admire your wisdom and self-control. You remind me of Tiffany from New Nurse Academy.
We’ll wishes

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
OMG!
Love your videos, just curious around how much do you think a position like the one she had pays per year ?
Wow…. That’s what happens…. Usually
🙏
How funny it ended up being her...
This! I swear is too common more so with primarily Filipino nurses they will set you up if they don’t like you. Truly nasty individuals
That is correct. That is also why they move into Admin., to safe guard the others from recourse .
Thts where my issue was had no idea this was a problem until I personally experienced
Karma is real.
I would like some advice. I am a new grad with the goal of getting into the ICU as soon as possible. I was offered a job in stepdown/tele and the hiring manager manages the stepdown, CCU, and ICU. During the interview she asked me where I wanted to be and told her I would like to start in the stepdown and see about working my way up toward ICU she said that would be wise. My question is do you think it is possible for me to transition within 6 months?
Hey there! I think it is very possible. I hope the hospital is supportive and has a culture of allowing newer nurses to pursue their specialty of interest. Keep me posted!
Yes karma is that b
Amazing right?!
