    The bleak reality of AI kinda set in a couple months ago. One of my professors, who has decades of experience in law enforcement and subcontracting for attorneys told us that video evidence may become completely inadmissable in court. The scarier thought though, is that gap in between the actual legislation targeting AI video in court, where an AI generated video could genuinely put somebody behind bars for a significant period of time. The thought of being able to ruin someone's life with a simple prompt within the near future terrifies me to the bone.

    Think of it as scanning a photo, you use the human data to copy it, but… what happens when you copy the copied photo? It loses quality, it’s been studied multiple times. Even something simple as text is prone to this
    No matter the quality, it just happens, degrade the model…
    The only known way is to set data before 2023, but then… everything will be outdated

    The inflection point arises when the default mindset flips from ' This video was most likely made by a real person' to 'this video was most likely made by AI' when this point arrives depends on how much 'critical mass' AI generated content achieves- but that it will arrive seems to me inevitable unless some foolproof way is found to clealy label generated content as AI.
    But there are huge sums of money being invested in this labelling not happening because those who would profit from using Gen AI intutively understand that being forced to label it would make it less appealing and effective.

    • @antarcticmapper3460
      @antarcticmapper3460 5 месяцев назад +1

      It seems inevitable to me that there will be an arms race between the improvement of AI and the effectiveness of labelling such AI. Is there a point where we can no longer improve AI and it will eventually stabilise, or will AI grow forever?
      Also, I think this “inflection point” has already happened. AI can make human essays, and make designs that most people don’t recognise as AI (just look at Temu lol). Let’s just hope that AI can only go so far…

    • @paulhiggins5165
      @paulhiggins5165 5 месяцев назад +3

      @@antarcticmapper3460 I think you are right technically- already most people can't tell AI Art or Writing from Human made Art or Writing- but I think the general mindset is still very much of the view that if something looks human made it then it is human made. The real problems will start when this baseline assumption is no longer safe to make and we will all be forced to adopt a 'safety first' approach that everything is AI generated until proven otherwise.
      Also the issue is not only technical- there is real resistance on the part of advertising agencies and other media creators to being forced to label their content as AI generated- I think because knowing something is fake changes your relationship to the material in a negative way, and the Agencies would rather not have to tell their target audiences that they are using fake media- they would rather just put it out there and keep quiet about it.

    • @antarcticmapper3460
      @antarcticmapper3460 5 месяцев назад +1

      The only solution at the moment is to label this content as AI. It is not an action that can be undone, and people will obviously use it maliciously, whether at a small scale or large, if the technology is there. Shouldn’t the agencies sympathise with OpenAI? And should they simply stop using AI altogether? Once again human greed comes to ruin everything…

    • @paulhiggins5165
      @paulhiggins5165 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@antarcticmapper3460I think you are right- unless AI generated content is clearly labeled as such we are going to have real problems in the near future with trust in any kind of media- but I am also aware that this labelling will potentialy damage the commercial application of AI generated material, because it's essentially a label that says 'this content is fake!', which is a negative attribute.
      So while there are powerful social arguements in favour of clearly identifying AI generated content- there are also powerful commercial interests that will oppose this because they feel it will prevent them from fully exploiting the commercial advantages of using AI. One argument I have heard from the Advertising agencies is that AI is no different to Photoshop- and since they are currently not obliged to declare when Photoshop has been used to manipulate an image, why then should they be obliged to declare when AI is used to create an image?
      Personally I don't find this arguement convincing- there is a big difference between retouching a real photograph and generating a completely fake photograph in my view- but the fact that arguements like this are being made does reveal the reluctuance of some potential disseminators of AI Generated content to label that content clearly.

    • @antarcticmapper3460
      @antarcticmapper3460 5 месяцев назад

      I agree with you. AI is an incredibly powerful tool that can manipulate almost anyone if used correctly. Especially as AI will ultimately improve, and the labelling of AI proves to fail. Also, photoshop actually requires human intuition and inconvenience that most people aren’t willing to do and AI is just a matter of prompting, generating a couple of fake videos and then choosing the right one, making AI much more accessible.
      We just have to hope that more powerful forms of AI will only fall into the right hands (these trusted companies) if labelling is abolished. That way we know it is AI out of the reputation of the company.

No matter how many companies I have worked for, they all just keep restructuring and automating and removing "excess". When I started in 1996, it was obviously already underway for a good while but in today's environment, it could hit from one year to the other with massive consequences. The amount of bots on the internet already constitutes for like 75% of internet traffic.
    What happens when it's 80%? 90%? 99%?
    Remember that our internet, the cloud, is still based in physical supercomputers and servers owned by tech companies and governments. Hardware that can only be expanded so far.
    At what point do the servers get overloaded? At what point, do we reach critical mass?

    Ok nice here's a brownie recipe
    Ingredients:
    - 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
    - 1 cup granulated sugar
    - 2 large eggs
    - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    - 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    - 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    - 1/4 teaspoon salt
    - 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
    Optional Add-ins:
    - 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chunks
    - 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
    Instructions:
    1. **Preheat the Oven:**
    Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
    2. **Melt the Butter:**
    In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
    3. **Mix Wet Ingredients:**
    Stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
    4. **Combine Dry Ingredients:**
    In a separate bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder.
    5. **Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:**
    Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix. Fold in the chocolate chips or nuts if using.
    6. **Bake:**
    Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).
    7. **Cool and Serve:**
    Let the brownies cool in the pan on a wire rack before cutting into squares. Enjoy!
    These brownies are Delicious

    This story is so old that it should even be called ancient: exponential raise of tech. The same argument, how much better computers are overall with growing speed, how much people fail to realize computers would be capable of, etc.
    We reached the moon like half a century ago...supposedly. Logically, many people expected humankind to colonize the moon by year 2000. Year 2000 was like mythological back in the 50's, 60's, 70's...until year 2000 arrived and found us fretting about computers unable to tell two numbers apart and the world would collapse, numbers being 1900 and 2000 just in case you forgot or don't know.
    It's been 24 years since 2000 and regular plane travel is a hassle and expensive. Most people in America will never travel to mundane destinations like Europe. Most Americans who have travelled extensively did so on the government budget (military service). Plenty of Americans have not even flown extensively across the USA, which includes white people, not just the usual suspects.
    I can go on forever. This hype is blown out, like always.

I think regulation really needs to be handled by an indipendant board which is open to the community. But even then, what's to stop either country doing it in secret? What's to stop Russia doing it in the open and simply not giving a fuck whether or not it is considering it a war crime? So how do we NOT have a race to the bottom?
    I think that, at least with the US and China (Russia will still simply not care) IF they felt like they had a choice to not pursue that direction of development, if they both felt they could be confident the other is not secretly developing the most devastating and existentially-threatening weapon mankind has ever known, then they would choose the safer option to simply not make autonomous death machines.

Why just don't connect computer to the brain so it would know directly what you want to most, even if you don't know it yourself, and make an input to your senses that would be absolute bliss. But why to even use senses? You could send the feeling of pleasure directly to the brain. The way technologies are developing is absolutely insane and not necessary. You can experience more pleasure than your brain is capable for. If you start experience it constantly, it will become a norm and boring. I think this whole technology thing is stupid. Despite spreading blatant propaganda. I tried giving varied messages, to see if it wasn't just a pattern it was used to replying with. But no, it was very stubborn with the misinformation it held.

    One thing I can say is that we as people commonly throw away trends. Ai is a trend. While it’s big enough to get as bad as predicted, it’s likely that we will discard it at some point. It won’t be as new. It won’t be as exciting. Theres the chance that it will be shoved away into a corner of the internet and technological development until it’s repopularized and brought back into the public eye. We need to remember natural human behavior past corruption. We need to remember the masses.

    To think that we all were at some point hoping the future would be flying cars and stuff, now all it brings me is fear. I hate the thought of AI and Technology taking away and replacing everything, jobs away from people, nature, and AI is ruining art too, I never liked the idea of AI. I hate the thought of living in a desolate, dystopian world where technology rules basically everything, I’d hate to live in the world where I can’t just walk outside and enjoy the peacefulness of nature, to live in a world where people only depend on being behind a screen for communication. I don’t know how anyone can enjoy a future like that, a cold, desolate future. I’d hate to think that one day, some idiot is gonna decide to cut every last tree down. I hate to think that this is the kind of future some people want, just the thought of living in a future like that brings me a cold, terrifying feeling. I wouldn’t want to have anything to do with a future like that, dead or alive. The thought of AI alone, gives me a cold, fearful feeling. I don’t mind having technology, but I fear we might advance it so much to the point where we don’t even bother to leave our homes, and communicate in person, or enjoy nature, or stuff like that.
    We shouldn’t depend on something that can replace everything we know, that can easily be exploited for who knows what.

    We already have the technology to completely automate all the jobs that humans need to survive. Why don't we use it? Because the people with the keys to the machine would no longer profit from it. 80-90% of existing jobs exist purely to create MORE work for us, and AI is no different than the fancy cars that could farm enough to feed the entire word.
    If everyone had the power to create as much film, music, writing, hell- any media they want- then where would the profit be? In the hands of the AI companies? It's like he said: there is no stopping anyone from making the same programs, using he same technology without the filters. So no, once this technology exists, all that profit will eventually dry up. That is a good thing.
    All the problems that are magnified by AI are not created by it. Artists deserve to be fed, entertained, to create, to live, regardless of how much of their art they can sell. If suddenly everyone on earth became masterful artists who could draw with no education or experience, if everyone could express themselves, their "souls", through the media that I or other artists rely on for our jobs, it wouldn't matter what quality it is, or how easy it is, or if I consider what other people made "art"; I and the other artists all still need to be paid, and that pay would suffer. If we removed "AI" from the discussion, there is still a problem there.
    I am a writer, and I write because I enjoy it. No matter what use my writing is to the world, or how much of it I can sell, I will still enjoy writing and I do it anyway. All the problems that AI has shown us are not caused by AI, but by capitalism.
    When the AI grows in power, when we are forced to face what true freedom from the machine means, the world as we know it will end. I hope it does. Because when there is no more profit to be made from us. Perhaps, if we're lucky, the system that is designed to hurt us will finally fail the people at the top, and then all those problems reflected by AI will no longer exist. If we imagine a world without money, AI is all benefit.
    Also... do people ACTUALLY believe in a real "soul"??? I am kinda sick of hearing that in an argument and never having it defined. Because if they mean a literal "soul" then the argument is useless to me unless they can prove there is such a thing.

      Wrong.
      Firstly, the Internet and Cars have been a burden on society of a great ordeal. Yes, I know the irony of this as I type this on the Internet while sitting inside my Car. I do not care.
      We have made society completely dependent on the Internet & Cars in the worst form imaginable. Our cities are designed around cars. Rather than focus on Communities, we instead spread everything out as far as possible.
      Obesity, Social Isolation, Depression, are all on the rise in part, but not wholly, due to our dependence on Cars as a global society.
      Internet meanwhile has completely warped the minds of Youth, inundating them with more information in a single day, than our ancestors just 100 years ago would get in a years timespan.
      It’s all too much, too fast.
      However, AI is far worse than either, because while the Internet & Cars *could* be potentially regulated & overseen to ensure that Public Health is not adversely damaged (though we have made no real efforts towards that), instead AI can’t be regulated & controlled.
      It is all-or-nothing with AI, and for the sake of the Human Race, we must choose “Nothing”.
      Stop its progress, destroy it all, and illegalise its creation. Including for lesser generative models.
      I am not some “Doomer” who only started thinking this way after ChatGPT became popular. I have been a thorough advocate against Artificial Intelligence for a very very long time.

    He said that it is scary that there will be many open source LLMs without restrictions. Don't be fooled, this is a good thing. Let's compare:
    Case 1, no open source models. Large corporations control artificial intelligence, and with it, information even more than they do now. AI becomes a tool for the wealthy and none of the possible benefits are free for the public to use.
    Case 2, there are open source models. People will do terrible things with them. However, remember that people do terrible things with all tools. A wrench can be an implement of murder of worse, torture. However here, at least the only people with unregulated assault rifles aren't the heads of megacorporations. The boon and intellectual achievement of AI will be accessible to all, free of charge (eventually), and not controlled by a select few.
