- This video will show you how to assemble a Champion 27 Ton Wood Splitter. Trust me, it’s not a complicated build at all. Also check out my second video of it in action. Check it out.
I actually used this video today to put mine together. Great job. I’m more of a video type guy so having this resource side by side with the instructions was perfect. I have an entire bucked up mature red oak waiting to be split!
Nice Morgrir! I’m the same way when it comes to videos and instructions. Super glad it helped and really appreciate the the comment and support! Have fun splitting up that oak tree. This machine shouldn’t give you any issues. Mines been perfect :) thanks again!
Thanks for making it not so scary. I’ve read horror stories of folks buying these things preassembled at the big box store only to have bad experiences with assembly errors. I’d rather do it myself. Thanks again!!
No worries Roger and yes I’ve heard the same stories. Have no fear though, this splitter is really easy to put together. Heavy yes, but simple! Appreciate the comment and support Roger :) Happy Splitting!
Tutorial was a life saver! Owner's manuel was soaked that came with shipment, thank you!
ThinkMatthew! How cool is that?!?! I really appreciate the fact that you left a comment and let me know that this video helped you complete the build! I’m really happy it helped! Have fun splitting that wood. This splitter works incredibly well and I use the heck out of mine. Thanks again for the comment and I’ll see you around! 💪😎👍
Great video. Straight to it, easy to follow, perfect.
Thank you so much Nate! I’m glad it helped! Merry Christmas my friend!
Awesome video brother. I was by myself as well and ended up cutting the wooden crate with a saw and tilting it up inside that crate and sliding it out on the side I cut out. Sketch for sure! You're right very heavy haha. This is what we have bad backs going into retirement!
Lol! Hey thanks for the comment and support my friend! Definitely appreciate you coming by and giving me the low down how you did this. Heavy beast indeed but man does it rip through the wood. My backs in rough shape as well but this (when built) sure gives the back a break from splitting the traditional way! Good luck this spring splitting wood. I’ve been on it for the last few weekends and have a bit more to do for the winter. Thanks again :)
Really Great Video. Just put my 27 ton Chapion together. Your video was very helpful!!! Thank you!!
Adkbuck! That’s awesome! I’m really glad it helped you assembly your splitter! It works great! Thanks again for the support and comment. It means a lot :)
Good Job - Just bought one and will be assembling it soon.
Appreciate the kind words! I was amazed how easy it was to assemble. Directions out of the box are spot on. No confusion whatsoever. Good luck with the build
I just bought one today, unassembled. Your video was very helpful. Thank you.
Hey thanks Tim! Much appreciated my friend. Super thankful I could help :) Enjoy it…. Thing smashes 😎
Great Video - no worries - we all slip in the language category from time to time. Thanks for the high detail on the build! Also, the best build instruction video on these splitters. Will be buy one very soon and will watch again before I build it.
Hey Daniel! Thank you so much for the kind words :) I always strive to put a good product out. Sometimes a little too much detail but that’s ok. I try and do these videos for people who have no idea, shoot, most the time I don’t either… haha. Oh and when you watch it again, I forgot something. At the very end before you go to test it out, make sure you remove the pin on the handle and reattach. I forgot to mention that but it’s pretty obvious when you get to that point and see how sloppy and loose it is. Have fun with it :)
Excellent video! Thank you for posting it!
Hey Peter and thank you! Hope the video helps you and I appreciate you coming by. Appreciate the support!
I also have this same Champion 27 ton log splitter, I like mine, i would like to have a 4 way wedge and better guards on the engine and covers on the pump and filter. I have put a dent on my gas tank already. Home Depot put mine together and the guy from the garden shop put two of the Hyd. hoses in the wrong places. I knew something was Not right when I started it up. I lost some Hyd. oil and they never gave me any extra. They keep it. Called the store twice and they never got back to me. Don't buy from the Home Depot Store in Gibsonia, Pa. ☹.....Good Job, thanks for sharing !👍😄
Thanks for the comment Stanley. Yea that’s a bummer about having something build by the store. Sometimes things get out together wrong and stuff like that happens. That’s why I like doing it myself so if it does mess up, I know that I can only blame myself. And yes on the 4 way wedge! That would be awesome! Thanks again and take care!
Awesome video
Dude Jack! Appreciate the comment my friend! Glad You found it useful! Oh btw, I checked out your channel, watched your short, dropped a like and did I just become your first subscriber?!?! If your decided to do a channel I wish you the best of luck, if not… then you still at least got one awesome subscriber ready to watch your channel grow! Thanks again my friend 😎 Stoney
Very good video. I added 2 bolts for the support foot cause it seemed a bit unstable Peace
Thanks Maynard! Yea that’s a good idea! I haven’t transported mine offsite yet so that makes sense. The more stable the better. Happy splittin’!!! Appreciate the support and comment 💪😎👍
Nice job..We all have an oh shit moment..I like how u had everything laid out..I pick up mine today
Hey thanks Jeff and yea, oh shit moments can happen! It makes good content at least! 🤣 awesome about your new splitter. Really nothing to it. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks Jeff /)
Perfect !! great job !
Appreciate you Gary! Thanks!
Also bolt heads should always be up or forward. Your engine mounting appeared you put the bolt in from the bottom, the nut on the engine flange. Feel free to correct me if I’m mistaken. Hard to focus in but at nine minutes I think the hut is on top. If the bolt head is on top, the bolt can not fall through the hole if the nut comes off. That’s the reason for bolt head up or forward.
Yea I hear ya brother. I forget how I did it but followed the book. I usually do what you say but I think the reason was I could get the boot to go from the top to the bottom. But yea you’re right man. :)
Great tutorial, especially when you raised the 200 pound splitter piece on end and installed it in the upright position.
Thanks Gary! Still eatin’ my Wheaties! Take care!
Overall a nice video
Thanks brother Joseph. And trust me, by all means I didn’t think you were being harsh on your comments. They were all valid and respectful. I mostly did this incase someone didn’t have the directions or just needed a little help. Not everyone is good at reading and following directions and that’s where my visuals come into play. Just here to help :) Thanks again my friend, I hope you have a most excellent day :)
Really like your video. Very informative! My wife just got me one for Christmas and I was wondering how it was boxed up. I am glad you took the time to make this video.
I now am a subscriber and looking forward to seeing your videos!
Oh, by the way, nice place!!! Should make a video about it.
Thanks John! Hey so yea that’s one thing I missed… the unboxing. Mine came in a wooden crate and a forklift was used at the store to put it in my truck. When I got home I had to take off the top and I was able to get everything out by hand besides the splitter assembly. That assembly has 1 inch plate steel throughout so it’s a monster! I had to break down the sides of the box (pain in the butt) and then have someone helped me drag it out the side and lift it onto some dollies. That’s the only part I needed a second person for, would def recommend that. Anyhow, hope that answered your question. Good luck on your build. It was fun. And yea, I might do a video later on about the place. It’s been a 5 year project so far! Thanks John!
You were right about the unboxing. I did everything you did, but when it came time to get the beam out of my truck, I couldn't lift it,so I used a chain fall and hooked it up in my pole barn, and that's how I could get it out of the back of my truck! Can't wait to put it together, thanks again for the help!
That’s one way to do it! Awesome! I’m sure someone else reading this will use your idea to get that beast out of the box! When your done let me know how it went, good luck my friend :)
It looked to me from, I’m guessing six feet, your wheel bearing did appear not packed. Some grease on the axle is good, but that doesn’t do anything for the bearings
Yea I don’t know Joseph. I just followed the directions for how the manufacturer wanted it done. I’m definitely no mechanic :) just handy.
Thanks for the demonstration! I'll be assembling mine soon. Is there a place to stow the tongue support tube?
Hey thanks Knowhereman! Super easy to assemble. As for the support leg, no I don’t think so. There is a pin if i do remember correctly, so you can just remove that leg and put it somewhere when traveling. It would of been nice if they had it attached to a swivel point. Thanks for the support my friend!
My 34 ton has 2 places to add oil. But the Manuel only mentions 1 of the places
Hey Burkyboy48! You know I dont remember if my manual said the same thing. It could be where one is more accessible for draining versus the other one. Either way, I'd think both ports go to the oil reservoir. Appreciate you coming by and hope you're having fun with the 34 ton!
Question: Did you add teflon to the hydrolic oil "cap"? I didn't but I do find leaked hydraulic oil on the shaft whenever I pull the splitter around. Is that normal or should I be doing something different?
I didn’t but if that’s where you think it’s leaking from then I don’t think Teflon tape will hurt anything. I haven’t had anything leak yet, but that doesn’t mean it won’t in the future. If it happens I’ll let you know, and if it does, I’d probably do the same as you. Thanks for checking it out! 😎
@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Yah I'm assuming its coming from there since its all over the tp of that axle/reservoir like it's splashing out a little somehow. I'm afraid to overtighten the screw as it sticks up quite a bit.
@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser And thanks for the quick reply. Great video!
I actually have noticed that too, it does tend to splash up, but yea Teflon sounds like a great fix. Oh and yea, thanks for the compliment! Hope it helped :)
Putting mine together now and the sketchy part has a big pin and cotter pin at that pivot point, no bolt and nut. Hope it works!
Just go for it Pete! It’s all good and that pin with cotter pin is essential for vertical/horizontal operation. Trust the process and trust the metal! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You’re gonna love that beast of a splitter! Thanks brother!
@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Went for it and split some logs... machine stayed in one piece, I call that a win
Nice win Pete! I’ve split countless logs with it. Just make sure you check hose tightness every so often. With how hot the hydraulics get, leaks can develop from the fittings. A little tightening will fix it :)
@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Will do, have heard some horror stories about the hoses. And thanks again for the video, super helpful!
@@pshep123 luckily the only thing they’ve done for me is leak, but it was never a big deal and I fixed it quickly. And no worries for the video. Glad to help Pete! Take it easy dude 🫡
Thank you!
No sweat Bruce! Thanks for commenting and the support. Really appreciate it :)
@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Just finished assembling mine. Wife helped but we're still going to stay married. :). Your instructions were sooooo helpful.
Bahahaha! That’s great Bruce! Glad they helped! I just used the heck out of mine this past month. Easily went through 5-6 cords worth. Glad you and the wife are still together! Hahaha. Small wins right?!?! Take care Bruce.
Hi! Great video. I just finished putting mine together. It only came with one o-ring for one of the hoses. Is that right, do you know? I saw another video and they used 4
o-rings. Good luck with your channel. I watch RUclips more than I watch cable now. Cable's mostly garbage nowadays.
Hey Rick, hope your build went well! As far as I know you only need the one O-ring which fits in a boss, which is shown in the video. As for the other o-rings you saw, maybe it was an earlier vintage where it needed you to put them in other places. I’d say, if you followed the directions and watched my video you should be all good to go. I was actually impressed with the directions which is nice to see for a change. Thanks for the comment Rick and I agree, cable can be garbage at times ;)
Your volume is low. I have the same splitter.
Thanks Stanley, because of you I’ve invested in a mic :)
fuel shut off
Yup, spilled a little there 🤣
Use child labor for log cutting 🙄
I tried….
