This is where some of the older generation has always lost me. We're living in the most peaceful time in history. But they want the younger generation to live like they're at war.

Someone knows zero about nurses pay brackets and zero about tax. A band 5 won't ever earn close to 40% tax bracket of 50,271 plus, nor would a band 6.
Similarly if a nurse earner 50270 (ie 20% bracket) then gets a pay rise to 50271, she won't pay 40% pn the full amount. She will only oay 40% on that last £1 and 20 on £12571 to £50270. So she won't be worse off. She will always be earning more.
