wow! i saw these guys blow sonic youth hard at the powerstation on the 'daydream nation' tour to auckland nz about 1988, what a wicked guitarist and songsmith Dr.Downs is, eeiirreee guitar melodies and bass is fine and dandy
Def one of my top 10 bands ever. Check their early EP "10 o'clock in the afternoon". I know from experience that it's hard to make a decent (audio only, let alone film+audio) recording of an in-venue performance. Accordingly, I give accolades to those who did so well .
It would be sick if the current lineup played some US gigs before everyone is too old. This video has been on for ten seconds and it already KICKS ASS. Best NZ band by a MILE!!!
A great listen! (the videography leaves a little to be desired, but at least we can hear the music!) Last time I saw The Verlaines was in 1993/4 on the Ready To Fly tour with Barbara Manning and Yo La Tengo, at the Kennel Club in SF.
The sound quality is pretty good! More than makes up for the video quality, which was not bad either, considering the club probably didn't have the best of lighting, and video capability of that era was not what it is today.

This is history - thanks to whoever recorded this, and whoever posted it.
Saw them at the Harold Park Hotel in Sydney I think around this time...just totally blew me away...still probably the best gig I have ever seen...

The nightshift lives. It was a great place to deejay, and so many legendary bands.
Where exactly in Naugatuck was it? I found out 727 Rubber Ave but I wonder which slot in the plaza
@@vapedatbirth We only knew it as the place next to Hung Fat Chinese Rest ( for reals)
Just stumbled upon these guys via The Clean. Fucking rad!
