I have an E 470 etc. tobacco burst I got from my cousin in 87. He was part owner of 8th street music in Philly. Got it with a peavey classic chorus 212. Still my go to rig...Love playing this guitar! so many great tones.
I only learned about the whole E4 serial number thing because of this guitar. I couldn't believe how clean it was. It now lives with a collector here in the UK who actually doesn't like strats but only wanted one of these. -Keith
Hi I try to do research the E4 that i just purchased. Try to gather the information from the official and other sources. Found that E4 with 22 frets and 2 points trem began to made in 86s to 87s , not seen the evidence that 84 85 had 22 frets . Thanks
Do you happen to have one that goes E4XXXX instead of E 4XXXX (no spacing between the E and the 4)? I was offered one of these a couple days ago in a trade and I'm not sure if I should take it because of this. Everything else makes it seem legit and, acordig to the owner, it's the exact same age as me (MM/YYYY), which makes me want it even more...
I have a Black Strat from the same era E 414 etc my uncle bought it in 1988 and gave it me as a birthday present. Great guitar. When it comes to recording I always use my Strat (without a second thought). These particular Strats are very nice. Just wandering how they compare with the 50's/60's Strats, which, of course, sound utterly superb😀
I managed to get one E4 from 1987 (date on neck), as new condition, from a priest that almost didnt play (as hes a collector), Gunmetal blue color and maple neck, absolutelly love it!!!
OK explain the E3***** I just dragged out of my closet? I bought this guitar while on the road in the early 80's as a back up to the LP I was playing. It is immaculate with hs case. It's a USA but with only 1 tone and one volume! And it doesn't string through the body also.
I’ve got one EXACTLY like this! Same color and next. I’ve the original case too. My only criticism is that you should’ve described that TBX tone knob on these American Standard Strats and what it can do.
I have an opportunity to but one of these in oly white with rosewood fretboard. It has two small holes drilled into the body, which is a shame, what would be a good price? Also got another option on a squier. Its pretty clean but the seller is asking 800 euros which I think seems really high. The fender with the holes is asking 600… Also a bit much considering the condition?
Hey man. Sorry to bother you, but could you give me a tip on this matter? I was offered one of these in a trade and it seems legit, but the 4 on the "E4" does not have the spacing this one has. It goes E4XXXX instead of E 4XXX. Everything else seems legit, but this bothers me and I'm not sure if I should accept it. Talked to 2 luthiers, but they don't really know much about fender decals. One of them didn't even know that they used the E4 system all the way to 88. Any thoughts on this?
My USA Std starts E3 I bought it in 1987 new from holiday music in leytonstone London. It's still my number 1. It's a very early one and had 2x refrets since I got it but all the E3's and E4s where first run models designed and made by the guys who now work in the custom shop so I've heard. My neck is also very slim compared to ones from 88.
These guitars are awesome I have a very early 87 the posts on the bridge on mine have no brass fixtures it's straight into the wood. Look back in those days Fender were making a hand full of guitars a week that's smaller number than work the custom shop now.
Yeah I was just reading about that from the Dan Smith interview on Reverb. I just got a killer 80's Fender that we're trying to figure out if it is American or Japanese from the Fujigen factory...apparently Fender was labeling some of those as USA. It has a Kahler USA Spyder tremolo...video will be up tomorrow
@@EssexRecordingStudios yeah to be fair I think anything other than a standard trem is a made in Japan but loads of people put those kahler trems on after market. Taking the neck off will show the date and a think the country. They are awesome guitars mine really resonates but I also think that the age.
Essex Recording Studios sounds very similar to the one I just picked up! 1987 Vintage Series (USA) that somebody put a Kahler trem on. I think it's the '57 Vintage model (in black)
wow, i have a silver E 4, this is the first I am learning that it might be 84-87, this was a big help, i'm in the process of trying to figure out exactly what I have here, all maple "fat" neck, Am. Std.
Hi I have one as well an orphan 84/87 ish USA two owners , but mine has one string tree , yours two , and the pickguard is 8 hole apart from that exactly the same

Love it. I own several “E4” Stratocasters. A good buddy turned me on to these. AMAZING guitars. THIS is a BEAUTIFUL example

Well done dude!
I recently got a E8 serial Strat from 1988 in arctic white and its super amazing!
Congrats man!
I just bought the same guitar. Mine has lots of wear plays beautiful. I cant wait to introduce her to the band next week.
Hope you enjoy it!
I have the same guitar....the H. Gastellum neck is perfect... congratularon

Ah Dan Smith CMS strat. Yours has the different input jack as well where the 3rd knkb would be
@EssexRecordingStudios Yep. I'm re stringing it now. Lol. I'm going to show this poor, neglected child some ❤️.
I bought the exact same guitar for my ex back in 1987. Paid £465 for it with a Fender case. It belongs to my son now. Lovely guitar
Wow that's a cool story Fran!
i guess it is
@@EssexRecordingStudios I might have one that rivals that beauty, a banana cream case queen with rosewood E494693
What a beauty. Who needs a flux capacitor?
I know right! Cleanest 80's strat I've ever seen.
I have an E4 1988 Standard Strat. Nice guitar. The original case and the case candy are all there too.
Very nice!
I’ve got one EXACTLY like this! Same color and next. I’ve the original case too. My only criticism is that you should’ve described that TBX tone knob on these American Standard Strats and what it can do.
That's an American Standard Stratocaster, manufactured in 1987.
Great guitar. I have the exact same one except it's a 1990 american standard strat.

American standard start to built in 1986 , unveiled 1987. No earlier than 1986
