Been playing this game for a month, haven't been able to put it down. If anyone played Elite in the 1980s on the Commodore 64, then you know you've been waiting a long time for this. My son bought himself a Valve Index VR headset, I thought I'd give it a try on my machine. He hasn't seen his Index in a month either. VR is the only way to play Elite, I tried going back to a monitor, I felt like I was wearing horse blinkers. I'm ordering the X56 Hotas, let's do this thing right.

@@Robbie_Feebo okay but I play with VR though so how would a webcam track my eyes with a headset over them lmao the VR headset already tracks my head movement I don't need to track my eyes to look around in the game
I’ve had an X52 for a couple years now, about 450 hours in E:D, and I’d absolutely recommend it. It even matches the ingame stick model if you play in VR, which is neat!
@pneumothoraxe I'd say his obvious point is that it depends on the specific hotas, as some work fine for years and some don't. As woth any device, there's no guarantee that it'll last as expected or wanted
The X56 is really nice because most people I know aren't gonna put enough miles on it to really wear down the complaints here and there about durability and it has SUBSTANTIALLY more buttons than pretty much any other hotas. Space games like elite have so many controls that wanting to play without your keyboard and mouse is really hard to completely achieve. But with the X56 you'll have more buttons and switches than you could need for not only this game but pretty much any. The big nice part about it being VR as finding your keyboard and mouse is a pain with a toaster on your face but if you never need to use your keyboard and mouse because you simply always have enough buttons then you save a lot of hassle
Started out on the Logitech X52, then the Pro Version, then the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS with TPR rudder pedals and now WinWing F16 Flight Stick & F15EX Throttles with the TPR rudder pedals. You will get there one day. 😊
Brought mine, came 4 days late, broken gimbal bit (grinding noises), idk if it's just mine but certain buttons only work with either usb settings or Logitech open and last but not least. Pov 1 up movement doesn't work. All of this is brand new so I wouldn't recommend it, if you live in England atleast

I have one, not the PRO but the standard...it has a lot of problems. Mainly one big, the stick on the yaw axis is pivoting even if i don't touch it so i had to change the deadzone to really high to not do it in the game,

I have the saitek x52 pro and the throttle lights dont work anymore, the stickdrift became so bad i had to remove the x rotation, but it worked perfetcly for 16 years
If you haven’t figured it out I had to go into the software for the Hoyas switch the view to grid and get rid of the three modes that were bound to the mode dial + pinkie switch then I could bind it

I would upgrade to that on looks alone but I wouldn't exactly be enjoying the Aesthetics with a VR headset strapped to my face lol
Some games have eye tracking with webcams so you can use your eyes to free look around
if you have a look at the controls in game they are actually a very close replica of the x52 so if you were in vr you could actually see them

It's an excellent first set. You'll use it for a couple of years at least before wanting to upgrade. Probably the best feeling set around as well.
warning to anyone buying one: the stick has a very shitty spring that will wear out and become floppy pretty quickly. I've done owned one since 2016

my grandpa had the original version of this. he used to play the original flight sims too. Wish i still had his joysticks

Joystick have yaw locking system. At the bottom of the stick there I lock button. Pull it and it's locked.. Neat feature.

Thrusmaster makes some affordable ones if you want to just try them out but I do highly recommend the X52 Pro
How’d you get the LEDs on the throttle working?
Make sure you have the software installed. You can change the colors of them there as well

Just like any other HOTAS really. Go to the game keybinding section and go to town on what buttons/trigger you want.
