We try the Ironstorm Spearhead with an armoured company of Ultramarines versus a Monster Mash of Tyranids. Tak test drives the Ironstorm Spearhead detachment for the first time with a list mostly comprised of dreadnoughts and tanks, including the Astraeus. Mubin has both Norns, the Emissary and Assimilator, in his Nidzilla Crusher Stampede list.
Warhammer 40k in 40m 2,000 point big guns versus big claws. 9 models per force. Thank you to Games Workshop for early access to the Space Marine codex so we could get this battle out to our viewers.

The moment tyranids deployed that way and lost the initiative, the game was over.
this is the same problem I run into when I go monster mash nothing but shooting armies that kill me on turn on or 2. wish monsters had the surge ability like the gants
Carnifexes do. And they are better choices than Screamer Killers for lots of reasons. But they are still not very good for their points cost due to very low durability.
@@skalgrimfellaxe5796 T8 W9 sv2+ for 125 point is okay but sadly most anti tank are str 9-12 and when play 2 of em with old one eye are very tempting for target. so most of the time they not live through turn 2.
My friend and I recreated this game with slightly different lists but still just using the big monsters and vehicles, and it was a ton of fun. I had the Nids and even went second but managed to pull out the win by like 88-80.
Mubin and Tak are such a pleasure to watch, both are just having a good time
They are my two favourite players in the play on team.
Mubin's smug, wordless stare at 17:40 had me rolling, what else can you do when your opponent fails a roll they knew for sure they'd make.
I'm glad you were entertained
I love imagining what those orks on the gun are thinking as the fighting goes on behind them!
Im now convinced that the Astreus should be rammed into the midst of infantry, to then explode in beautiful glory
Sadly Invasion Fleet is a better monster mash detachment than Crusher Stampede by a MILE.
synaptic nexus
@@leSmokySmoke That too! I like the +1 to hit a lot, and the AoC strat is nice for the synapse boys. I do really like how the lethal hits from invasion fleet help us punch up into tanks though. Nexus can't do that as well.
Awesome game! One of the best thematically games, so fun to watch. I really wished for this report of tank vs monster matchup!
Just sitting down to watch this.
Initial assessment, I hope Tak's dice rolls are better than they've fared in the past.
We'll see if this ages well.
Couldn’t ask for a better birthday gift then you guys posting a tyranid game yesterday. It was amazing!
I literally just brought an Astraeus today! Very excited to see that a battlereport by you guys got released simultaneously that also features one!
"killing squeezy was easy peasy"
vile 😂
That tank army was so cool, but with the table so packed he coudn't hardly move his army at all.
I watch this vid every now and then hoping crusher stampede magically gets better
Combat Cards! :D Thanks for promo code and as always, like goes for you before the video even starts!
here is how to simply fix crusher stampede IF you want to change rulings:
Detachment rule:
Each time a TYRANIDS MONSTER model from your army makes an attack, add 1 to the Strength characteristic of that attack. If that model’s unit is below its Starting Strength, add 2 to the Strength characteristic of that attack instead.
explaination:
this will get ALOT of mediocre strength 9 weapons form tyranids up to that crucial S10, OFTEN giving that +1 to wound no matter what, but without it beeing guaranteed, but at least giving a bonus right from the start. and then, when damaged, which is already really hard to do, you get some weapons to S11 to REALLY be able to destroy most heavy armor target, what crusher stampede SHOULD be able to do. removing the below half condition completely since that just NEVER happens, if a model is below half strength it is literally already dead in 99% of all cases.
Also note that this will count towards melee AND shooting, to make some use of these (right now) terrible and useless venom cannons.
Dear JT we need a sound board consisting entirely of the sounds you make during these newer battles. Please?
I make them while playing too.
@@jtmcdowell2331 ...lol. me too cant have farsight come in from deepstrike without a whooosh kaboom sound. still think a Play onTabletop sound board would be a good idea. Nick going "kaboom" "DAMN YOU MUBIN" some of your "moments" in the recent games. the fans will love it 😁
Nids not being able to wound was brutal.
oof that tfex could have ignored the 6 dmg that was shot at him playing with old tfex rules major game changer there i think
I love combat cards I've been playing for so long
JT's commenting is absolutely phenomenal!
first 5 mins into the video and i already knew the outcome
Killing squeezy was easy peasy! Lol
Saw the big astreus tank I knew then and there tyranids would get thrashed.
Crusher Stampede really is quite bad isnt it. Did its rule come in effect even once in this entire game?
it actually did a few times, mostly on the Emissary actually
@@MubinTalati it did? I guess with not seeing all the dice it's hard to notice.
Final explosion
*Happy Nick noises*
I understand the need to want to run big huge stomping army. But you need little things
Still odd tak didn't reroll that snake eyes save. Only needed a 3, and it would have doomed that emmisary
Its so funny that the nids always Lose in 40k in 40 min 😂😂
Have you watched this one? ruclips.net/video/XbHE2E9gBpQ/видео.html
Anyone knows what color they used to paint the Tyranids
Mubin always does this
Loved the sad Nick noises. Suggested that a few years back on Reddit
the edits are wild
A really nice game. I question the Space Marines able to bring 3 to 4 times the firepower over the Tyranid's ability to withstand such a punishment until they are within range to do something about it.
Dude had the game lost since he woke up a week ago and decided he should sit down and construct a list at some point
Would love to know how you guys got that nice purple color on the nids
Makes me sad that subfactions (hive fleets/chapters) are meaningless now and we're even referring to armies by their detachment rule
They really need to stop using the crusher stampede. They are always getting decimated in every matchup.
Why are the devastating wounds better than lethal hits? Isn't it the same?
While both are criticals the lethal hit means that the hit also wounds. While a devastating wound happens during the to wound rolls and that bypasses saves. If a weapon was to have both lethal and devastating, by scoring a lethal hit you don't get the opportunity to do a devastating wound.
@@PlayOnTabletop Ah I see, no saving throws on Devastating Wounds but they can save on Lethal hits
Tyranids in 10th are pretty weak overall. You either have 20 models that will barely scratch even weak enemy models, or do absolutely nothing to big models, or you have big "scary" models that don't have abilities focussed on what they try to do or just aren't wirth the cost. I'd rather the Screamer-Killer have re-rolls to wounds or something with melee rather than doing Battle-shock which is a joke in 10th. Id rather the Norn Emissary which costs 290pts to have [Fights First] because its a melee unit instead of [Feel no Pain 5+] against mortals. Units either aren't tanky enough or don't hit hard enough for their cost, or try to do things that they can't do well compared to other armies like space marines or chaos marines.
I'm sorry but if you're going to do a melee army vs a shooting army there HAS to be big ruins to hide behind turn 1 otherwise its not even a game... not to mention its the worst tyranid detachment vs the best space marines detachment
Love Mubin and the nyds but aestartes are to strong, this would never work. An atv pasted the flying one in just one go
It is a pity but that Tyranid list is just overcosted, Winged Tyrant instead of regular Tyrant, Screamer killers instead of Maleceptors, Tyranofex instead of Exocrine, a Nord Assimilator instead of 2 Nord Emissaries, no token Biovore... and i get that it is a thematic monster only list but Neurolictor and Deathleaper are way better than Trygon, and cheaper too, but even then even if we min max points it wouldn't have gone much different
Crusher Stampede itself is kind of underwhelming, if your monsters gets focus fired you don't even get to benefit from the detachment rules because they can be killed before they even get to attack, your bonus to hit and wound should come activated from the start as long as the unit is a monster, regardless of them being below starting strength
it fucking sucks to have so many non viable things in our codex while most other codexes (most not all) get to jsut play with all their toys, with nids and admech and sisters it feels like "hey you bought the wrong things 2 editions ago? tough luck you just can't win now, better buy more stuff!"
This was so comically predictable, that it hurts my xeno-loving soul.
I’ve lost every game to the bugs when I play the boys in blue
@@kefnettheuseless7627 Apparently, you just have to convince your Tyranid opponent(s) to bring an all-monster list while you bring an anti-monster list like this knucklehead. There's just no way Ironstorm Spearhead should lose to a 'nid CS.
It made me laugh that he even added a wall along the deployment edge to keep monsters from consolidating into him. It’s so lopsided and the worst part is I know a guy who always tries to do stuff like this haha never announce what you are playing to people like them!
I think that assimilation swarm can be a clever anti tank detachment as if you get your swarms into those tanks and infantry you can easily lock heavy’s in combat so no big bang bangs and if your lil guys get wrecked a lil ripper will respawn them (within rolls ofcourse) all I’ll say is the psychophage can be a very useful tool in a skirmish
In every one of these videos I've watched, the nids' never win😭
I actually hate how mediocre the new crusher stampede rules are. You can tell GW was too afraid to make them even decent because of what happened last time.
This seems to be a pattern.
Don’t worry the First Company Detachment they didn’t even give an opportunity to be good. 🤣 it is a shame though, if they just added a few better stratagems to crusher stampede I think it could be a menace. Just hard to find that perfect balance.
Have you tried not being xenos scum?
I played as Tyranids vs my best friends Ultramarines the other day and my god Guilliman is lethal. He basically one shot my Norn Emissary in melee. Best thing about the game though was when my friend had an entire round of shooting a redemptor into a ripper swarm and whiffed on everything or I saved it
Girlyman really shouldnt do that, rolled really poorly on 4+ invuls then. I guess it is very swingy
Something similar happened to me but my buddy was playing bloodletter demons and he completely destroyed my swarmlord with his Scarbrand (Idk how to spell the model's name)
Yeah I played csm against my friend's space marines and I wounded him with 5 lascanons and he missed all 5 invuln saves
@noahhenri2258 just put a K instead of C and you're good
@@edgieststalker8141 thx
the big nid monsters wounding on 5s when reaching combat (lack of firepower compared to SM) hurts them. Considering they rely on melee to do damage really they struggle to get anything through.
Its alright for Guilman to be strength 14 and have a sword that does dev wounds but a tyranid model thats twice his size and costs about the same points no strength 9.
Nids are getting shat on rn, though it really doesn't help he was playing the objectively worst detachment. Pretty much anything but synaptic network is better for Tyijus than the detachment apparently made for it.
The biggest problem is nothing in there army other than screamer killer has anything above a 9 in strength. And sadly the norm and Swarmlord both have the same strength with I think is wild.
Very true. The army can struggle against armour, but has a field day with infantry of all types (in my experience). Both Norns have good shooting; Assimilator has solid melee. Heirodules are great, but all these are in the realm of 300 points. Hierophant is fantastic but a huge cost. Old One Eye is really our best melee damage dealer at 140.
That said, Zoanthropes put in work, and T-Fexes are TERRIFYING. Anything remotely competitive and I’m fielding both in force to back up my melee Battleline.
This game was sadly decided the moment they rolled for first turn
Still, amazing battle
this game was sadly decided when choosing the crusher stampede detachment.. this game was sadly decided when choosing a Tyrannofex.. this game was sadly decided when choosing two screamer killer.. this game was sadly decided when choosing a swarmlord.. this game was sadly decided when choosing both norn..
everything about this tyranid list and plan was just "wrong", because sad truth is, tyranid monster JUST suck.. and the only "acceptable" monsters, Maleceptor and maybe haruspex, weren't even in the list.
Tyranids have non existing damage against armor, and are to slow to get that non existing damage into combat in the first place, even if going first.
@@leSmokySmokething is something similar to the nid list obliterated me (t sons)
@@ReadThisIfYourG3y sorry but this is next to impossible, Literally my best friend plays tson, and I play Tyranids as one of my main factions. and I play "good" monster lists comparred to this.
Tson is absolutly one of the best armies against this. Tson can just shoot these things of the table before they even reach you.
Given we played only one game with this matchup against a monster list and it was before the last dataslate update, and it might be more fair now. But tyranids monsters didn't change since then. Same as you saw here Tson can easily kill the three nearest models every turn easily and kill them and kite them all before they ever reach a valuable target.
Since then I played with monster against ironstorm, deathguard and even the new votann. all able to shoot every last monster to death before turn 5, even with 10 giant monster that are T11 you dont stand a chance. Maleceptors are the only thing that can survive reasonably well for the points, but sadly again dont do any damage in melee even when they get there..
and when I then play Vanguard or swarm I can not believe why I even bother making monsters work when I can literally do the same thing and be in my opponents face turn 1 and keep them occupied with SO many models turn after turn that I just win with a lead so great because my opponent literally is unable to play the game.
(I guess thats why I also play "weaker lists" like mosnters..)
I don't understand why we don't play this game like chess? One step for me, one step for you.
@@minitorum its a cool mode that you can just play with your friends, we tried it a couple of times and it is really fun
Serious question: How come there are 0 ruins on this board? Seems like 10th basically requires 4-8 pieces of full LOS blocking terrain (and with large monsters that means ruins) but often play on doesn't have any? Makes a big difference to first turn and who has more shooting. I'm actually asking if it's like a design choice for you guys or any other thoughts. Love the video! Love your plays!
we actually treated all buildings as Ruins and LoS blocking but we also still need space for the monsters to get around and it's hard to COMPLETELY high 9 big Tyranids so unfortunately some were going to get shot. Same goes with the SM, if anything they had LESS LoS blocking terrain in comparison
@@MubinTalati Ahh so the buildings block LOS like via their footprint? not just true LOS? Cool. That makes way more sense. Thanks!!
Yup, that's how we treated it! That's also a big thing when we create our tables, the players have input and agree on how to define the terrain that is there. So while on initial look it might seem like there was an open field we actually had very limited firing lanes. As the games go on and the bugs get closer though there's much less to hide behind
@@MubinTalati Exactly how we play here in LA. Perfect. Thanks for explaining!
Don't get me wrong, I love the show and the battle reports you propose. But every single time, Mubin plays Tyranids with everything on the line, loses the roll to start and loses the battle ... #Nidslivesmatter
That was a pathetic showing from the Nids.
Crusher Stampede seems like a good way to be one half of a big game hunt.
Mubin can’t play
@@Somei05 true but this Mubin guy definitely has fun
@@MubinTalati it’s obvious that u didn’t 😂
Saw that space marine list and there was never a chance nids were gonna do anything, space marine armour is just way to powerful for nids to try and take on
With a list full of anti monster heavy guns
It’s the best marine detachment vs the worst tyranids detachment, and the former is specialized in killing the latter… not a chance.
Would like to see some decent tyranids lists in the channel. It seems they are just playing meme armies vs competitive marine lists to get blasted :( I understand this channel is not competitive or anything but still feels a bit bad
@@91elpiris I agree. Nids never win on this channel because as you point out, its meme vs competitive and often the worst nid picks as well. "Lets use several Screamer killers and a Tyrannofex" - said no serious nid player since 10'th ed started.
I'm a serious nid player and run all of those exactly 😅 I also have however an Emmisary, haruspex, a carni squad with OoE for other monsters at the moment. It's the saturation that is important.
Also might I add, I've only lost 3 games in 10th (daemons, a super meta dark angels list and imperial knights pre nerf)
@@IzzysBuisness Then Im impressed, since you are nerfing yourself for no real reason but still winning stuff. Good for you. I don't go for "meta builds" myself, as I like to have fun with my lists and battles and not min-max everything. But I won't choose the worst units if there are other better options - and there are.
I don't believe I've seen Crusher Stampede win a game as of yet.
Crusher Stampede requires players to run Tyranids with 20 or less models, when they really rely on having more bodies than the opponent can feasibly shoot at/swing at
Because that detachment is hot garbage. Worst detachment in the codex.
It’s because no crusher stampede list online takes their best units- there should be 3x haruspex, old one eye with carnifexes and some special units to actually get max efficiency. Taking 2 screamer killers is just painful to a list
@@oscarluckin1625 Their army is like a lot of new or casual players, start with the launch box models and build up. I think only tournament players would consider 3 identical $80 models a good spend when there is so much variety available.
@@oscarluckin1625 Note that that OOE + fexes unit won't benefit from the detachment rule until OOE has 4 wounds left.........
When I saw the astreus on the army list, I yelped out in joy
Tyranids are still so weak, man. Space Marines look strong against them so much.
Mubin such a great player sportmanship 100% very charicmatic but he nees to step up his game with Nyds. He play fun list while the other army its coming for blood. Tak clean game as always the guy is a pro.
Some times I see plays that just make me confused. Why would mumen not zero that SIX damage melta on his main anti tank gun when he was the oath target. That single decision lost an insane amount of potential going onto turn 2-3
Not sure you saw HOW many guns were aimed at that poor Tyrannofex. My thought process was to keep it as a pocket to try and keep it alive on it's last legs. that ALSO gives it maximum bonus from Crusher Stampede rules. Tak knew what kind of a threat it was. That fex wasn't going to survive that turn 2 no matter what.
I agree. Even though he's explained his thoughts here, there's very few times canceling 6 damage isn't the play
@@MubinTalatihonesty you should’ve just won the game and saved everything smh/s

Tyranids do seem under-powered for a launch faction this early in the edition. I've only ever seen them win with swarming Objective control and lucky secondaries.
They lack a lot in fire power to down big and strong models, they seems pretty weak at dealing with tank / tough models
@@hellcyte5259our antitank units are sadly pretty hard to get ahold of right now. Haruspex is pretty good at it, but good luck finding one. They are right though, pretty much every nid unit needs a Strength boost, a point drop, some (screamer killer) need invulnerable saves or FNP, and most pre-codex changes need to be reversed in general.
Kinda felt very one sided when there isnt much los blocking terrain.
There was plenty, its just hard to hide models that big
it is honestly so sad to see tyranids monsters beeing so bad this edition across the board. I hope to fix them, they get massive points decreases on monsters to make them feel like the first "monster horde"" army, since they probably wont fix their strength issues. Where even if you loose a lot of models and dont do that much damage, you still can overwhelm your opponent with monsters.
Especially stuff like carnifexes which are so rediculously bad and overpriced should drop to like 90 pts per model and be propper tyranid elites, toxicrenes need to drop to like 120-130. Norns need to drop 20-30 points, assimilator even more so. Screamer killer need to drop to 140 at least, swarm lord and tyrants need to drop 40-50 pts, Tyrannofex needs to be at 150pts to even be worth considering.
I'm happy about the sponsor and that free gift gave me that one astorath token I needed to get him level 9
I noticed Tyranids are kind of getting their asses beaten in this edition, especially against Space Marines. In a lot of the videos I've seen Space Marines are able to just shit can Nids like there is no tomorrow xD.
Have you seen this one? ruclips.net/video/XbHE2E9gBpQ/видео.html
@@PlayOnTabletop Not yet.
So my problem with the game right now is that there’s too much rerolling of dice. And this battle was this guy rerolling of dice with every single attack. It kind of takes away the strategy of the game if I get to keep rerolling my dice until I get the results I want.
Sigh. I haven’t seen tyranids win once. I’m starting to think that they’re terrible this edition.
They are not, but going only melee monsters against tanks is borderline griefing.
Crusher seems to struggle, would love to see how the flipside goes for the Unending Swarm.
As someone who's only experience with actual tabletop 40K is this channel, it feels like detachments like Crusher Stampede, that is so dependent on getting the first turn and getting close before they lose models before they can even literally do anything (thereby losing those points, especially considering ammunition count isn't a thing, so it isn't like the other team is using up a limited resource in exchange for eliminating those models before they can have any impact on the table), should have some kind of rule or ability that gives them a higher chance of winning initiative and going first.
Basically the only way you can do anything turn 1 as crusher stampede is making sure to take 2-3 exocrines. At least with that you can kill 1-2 infantry units
Invasion fleet is far superior that crusher stampede (the worst detachment for tyranids currently) the lethal hits and the FNP stratagem will make so much difference in this game.
Not even going to watch.
I'm a nid player and the nid list is just straight up trash.

Tak smiling means he is living in this moment, and I love it. 😊
Dang crusher stampede looks terrible in 10th. Hope we get some closer tyranid games in the future.
70pts killing 210 pts really shows how bad T9 is, and with only S9 attacks aswell I dont understand how this model is still 210 pts and not like 140 pts. playing the model is just SO bad investment right now.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen it fare well
The Astreus seems pretty disappointing this edition.
This looks like a good detachment though. I'm a bit light on tanks but I've got walkers and speeders so might still do some work for me
I will never understand why Tak didn't use armour of contempt on Guilliman in that first round
Don't get me wrong I'm VERY much looking forward too this match since I love tyranids and the new units are cool as heck...but I feel the large units only sort of strategy just does not work well for an army who's core strategy is pretty much drown them in numbers lol, regardless I'm looking forward to this one!
The result of the game pretty much confirms this as well.
@@cyberjonesy Yeah the general consensus seems to be the Crusher Stampede is one of the weaker detachment picks.
@@luketfer More like some of the nids monsters are obviously overcosted for what they do.
Some people already know this I imagine, but in case there are anybody who is just looking at Tyranids I want to gush about how ridiculously cool the Trygon's Biostatic Pulse ranged attack is.
This thing builds up static electricity between it chitinous plates as it digs underground, and discharges that electricity around itself, to a point where it evaporates creatures struck by it.
I love Tyranids for the adaptations, but this just seems so feasible that I love it lol, that's it, that's the comment lol, loving the game XD
I agree that as a fictional concept it is cool. In regard to the end comment about it being so feasible, well, no it’s complete and utter nonsense scientifically.
Man… horrible dice rolls from
The ultramarines and amazing rolls by the nids lol. It hurt me to watch 😝
So imo the norns seem way over costed for their power.. or do they just keep running into lists that have a ton of las cannon type guns??
That camera hiccup at 17:38 is ... Interesting. My heresy senses are tinglijg.
I was thinking the same thing.
the only reason nids lose and lose and lose is that while lascannons went from s9 to s12 (keeping them at 3+ against light tanks and 4+ against heavy tanks) the venom cannon stayed at s9 making it impossible for them to keep up the only ranged weapons they have that can match it now are the focused witchfire which is mounted on a slow and fragile frame or the rupture cannon which is mounted on a very expensive frame and incredibly unreliable
The same thing happened to many of their weapons but the lascannon vs the venom cannon is the clearest most direct example (the bright lance, the eldar equivalent for example went up like the lascannon)
In return, nids got their melee antitank way stronger so they could take tanks out in melee, however their toughness didn't go up to match the other factions so they can't actually reach into engagement (for example in 9th a t7 redemptor dread got upgraded to t10, but a t7 carnifex went up only to t9)
In general the whole nid index and codex seems written by someone who chose to follow the 10th edition mantra of things being tougher while not getting stronger but every other index was written by people who just made everything stronger and also tougher
That was just a bad game. Please if your going to put up tyranids games make it so the game is at least close looking that was a stomp from round 2, round 3 wasn't even needed. Tyranid content on this channel is already bad but with this it's getting worse 2 rounds and its over, just waiting at this point for what ever army you chose to vs them to just kill them in round 1.
"Killing squeezy was easy-peasy" 🤣
Well, at least the tyranids looked cool on the table for as little as they were on it...
This was a well produced, good looking sh!t show. Beautiful Table, Beautiful Models, but please try to make these things at least a little bit competitive. Don't play "Powerful Killy Detachment" against "Worst Detachment in the Codex." Its just NOT fun to watch. Gonna be a thumbs down from me.
Yeah I agree. I knew just from the lists that the tyranids were gonna get stomped and seeing the game basically being decided in the first 5 minutes was just kinda sad. It was still fun to watch but it was basically just a tyranid bloodbath.
I mean it's literally "big melee monsters" vs "ranged anti-monster vehicles", you knew like 5 min into the vid how it was going to end and that's never interesting. I also like how Tak only moved like 2 models the entire game besides doing some minor shuffling around.
After last week’s series of matches and the current angels narrative campaign, I was surprised to see a 40k in 40 min episode.
Is that an Ork news channel and reporter at 28:54 ? thats awesome
Why is Tak hiding his techmarine ? it has Lone Op anyway, if it's within 3" of vehicle :D

Interesting army list. I like the emissary model the most! But I think that whoever gets to start turn 1 is going to win. But let’s see if I’m right.
Again JT with the sound effects! 😅😂 great game guys! Ultramarines for the win!
God crusher stampede sucks. What were GW thinking with this detatchment
This is the best batrep formst on youtube. Theoretically. Sadly I find myself skipping a lot, because the matchups are often very onsided because of the lists. :/
I wanna see a similar thing with guard vs orks only the heavy stuff
Crusher stampede exists just so nidzilla has a snowballs chance vs orks
I played my Ultramarines vs Nids and figured out I definitely need more armor. That Norn Emissary is no joke!
Had to comment on that hand of dominion shot from bobby G from across the table. Dice tell stories, and that was epic
