I've always seen Tycho as a sort of "Boss character" in his battle reports, the mustache twirling BBEG who just loves being devilishly evil, as it comes natural to him as a player and the armies he plays, so consider me surprised when I found myself rooting for his Loyalist Shadow Vipers against Nick's Genestealers. Absolutely awesome battle report!
Nick is an awesome sportsman. That turn 1 was a nightmare for the cults but Nick just shruggs it off as disappointing and then is back to his bubbly best! Congrats to Tycho for being merciless ( in a fun sporting way).
Its unfortunate that this game really came down to the very first die roll. When Tycho got to go first then practically tabled Nick immediately, the rest was just practice.
Far too common an issue. Still the biggest problem with 40k IMO. Not much fun when the game is effectively over ten minutes in. You could tell Nick was struggling to stay chipper.
@@AltheSpiderlordI wonder how the game would feel if they added an "initiative" stat on units like other turned based games and each unit had its own turn order. So basically movement phase I move one unit then my opponent moves another unit, etc... Do the same for every phase. Then for example of my opponent is playing dark eldar he might be way faster and get to move like 3 units before I can move one or something.
Recently got into 40k via the Horus Heresy book series, never played the tabletop game before. Now that I've read Nemesis, it's super cool to see a Vindicare pop up in the game. I'm thinking this assassin should have a big impact if he's anything like Eristede Kell!
Say hello to the model that hits on 2, but will seem to miss all his shots, all the time 😂. (Only when you use one, it's great when other people use it)
@@trevorchadwick7649 As I understand game design, if you can lose a single turn so badly you can't come back from it, you may as well not play more turns.
holy shit was this game a master class essay for the benefits of alternating activations! This game was over in the first shooting phase, I think this just persuaded me to start using alternating activation for all my games going forward if my group agrees. This was painful to watch. Love the energy and the bat rep though! Props Nick for staying so positive.
I am actually about to start The gene cult as my last army super super excited to play them, love their lore and playstyle exciting to see how well they do in 10th
There's a quite a few comments claiming that alternate activation in 40K would have made this game closer, and while I believe alternate activation is superior to 40k's I-go-U-go, I dont think it would have helped here. The issue in this game is that there's no LOS blockers in the central area of the board they're all on the edges of the battlefield. Heck even with the small footprint tower in the center there appears to be LOS between the 2 home objectives which, at least from what I've seen, is a big no no for terrain set ups. I play a gunline empire army in SW Legion (an alternate activation game) and this is exactly the sort of board I'd want for maximum advantage, and be confident of winning against a lot of opposing lists.
This game really serves as an example as to how overpowered hellblasters are - they killed 2 ridgerunners on their own in one shooting phase, while already a man down. The shoots on death thing is also just a tad too powerfull for my tastes. I think that being able to shoot after blowing up is a pretty tall order.
Long time viewer here, love the pacing of the last few episodes although the dice cam gets frustrating to try to keep books on because the dice reflect in the studio light in such a way that you cannot tell what the roll was half the time
Wow, that first turn (including losing the roll to go first) was absolutely brutal for Nick on both sides of things. Nick killing Tycho was at least a sidequest completed.
Admittedly, I came to these battle reports as I was trying to find how-to-play videos. Watched PlayOn’s and then started the battle reports and been watching 2-3 per day for the past week. It’s fast paced for someone new, but with the commentary it actually made it quite easy to grasp (although I can’t tell the exact rules, I know the steps and understand them much better now)
I think this game was a prime example of how this game can look without the proper terrain. GSC are still a top-tier army, but having very little LoS blocking terrain just made this a shooting gallery for the marines. Obviously dice played a factor but Nick was at a disadvantage from the outset here.
The fact that 40k STILL plays where one whole army moves, shoots, charges, fights, does psyker stuff, and whatever else all while the other army must just stand there and watch it happen is ridiculous to me. A unit for unit turn activation scheme, like KillTeam is just so much better.
Reductus Saboteur's explosives don't go off on deep strikes. Deep Striking counts as having made a normal move, but not ended one (different wordings). Evidence for this is in the overwatch stratagem, which specifically talks about "just set up" in addition to "have ended a normal move", implying that they aren't the same. It's one of the "effective" ways to take out Saboteurs (without your opponent messing up). It also makes much more sense power-wise, as the unit would otherwise always make back it's value against many factions with this ability alone. It makes it less interactive to play against too. Even if a unit deep strikes in to kill it, the enemy may have to overcommit to actually put the Saboteur down in order not to risk the Saboteur retaliating (with his dangerous close range shooting). This means even if the Saboteur did barely any damage, he still drew a, likely, much more valuable unit out of deep strike and forced them to shoot at a 65 point target. So you still gain something, but it isn't as oppressive and non-interactive as the thing always going off against everything. You can also avoid this by screening obviously to force the enemy into either staying out of the zone or eating the damage.
I noticed one error. Consistently the narrator referred to Tycho's army as using blood angels rules, but with doctines he was playing gladius (ultramarines)
I have seen so often feel no pains doing in chunks and not spilling over. I am so confused someone please explain, I thought mortal wounds still spilled over?
Feel no pains and mortal wounds are separate things. Mortal wounds is damage that you cannot save against and feel no pain is like a second save that only some units can use, that can negate damage from an attack
Shout out to One Page Rules since the ad break mentioned it. It's so good! I wonder how it would go with half the points. Cause 2000 points is not nearly as well balanced as the smaller point games are cause you can't do everything everywhere all at once with said smaller point games.
Yo that Dreadnought is doing parkour! Also why is it when I see the Patriarch I imagine some Guard guy getting scooped then spiked on his back and saved as a snack for later. BTW the grey/black carapace and red flesh paint scheme is awesome looking for Tyranids.
Quick question about 9:07 when the drop pod was placed? Doesn't it have to have it's leaflets down in order to be placed, otherwise it's modeling for advantage? I was recently told this in a friendly match and would like some clarification before I enter a comp, since it increases it's footprint by 3 or so inches, its a big difference.
Does anyone else find themselves instinctively "supporting" one army? I feel so torn this time. Will always root for marines but having a child of chaos at the helm is sus to me.
