  • BMW X3
    ADULT OCCUPANT
The passenger compartment of the X3 remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger. BMW showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sat in different positions. All critical body regions of the passenger dummy were well protected in this test. In the full-width rigid barrier impact, protection of both the driver and rear passenger was good or adequate, except the chest of the rear dummy, protection of which was rated as marginal, based on chest compression. The X3 scored maximum points in the side barrier test, with good protection of all critical body areas. In the more severe side pole test, dummy readings of rib compression indicated marginal protection, while that of other body areas was good. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injury in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric assessment of the rear seats also indicated good whiplash protection. The autonomous emergency braking system scored maximum points in tests of its functionality at the low speeds at which many whiplash injuries are caused, with collisions avoided at all test speeds.
    Volvo XC60
    ADULT OCCUPANT
The passenger compartment of the XC60 remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy readings indicated good protection for all critical body areas of the passenger and of the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger. Volvo showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sat in different positions. In the full-width rigid-barrier test, protection of both dummies was good except for the chest of the rear passenger, protection of which was rated as marginal. In both the side barrier test and the more severe side pole impact, protection of critical body areas was good and the XC60 scored maximum points. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric assessment of the rear seats also indicated good whiplash protection. The standard-fit autonomous emergency braking system scored maximum points in tests of its functionality at the low-speeds typical of city driving, with collisions avoided at all test speeds.
    Audi Q5
    ADULT OCCUPANT
The passenger compartment of the Q5 remained stable in the frontal impact. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger. Audi demonstrated that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sat in different positions. All critical body regions of the passenger dummy were well protected. In the full-width rigid barrier test, protection of all body regions was good, with the exception of the chest of both dummies and the neck of the rear passenger dummy, protection of which was adequate. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injury in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric assessment of the rear seats also indicated good whiplash protection. The Q5 has, as standard equipment in Europe, Audi PreSense City, an autonomous emergency braking system. In tests at low speeds, typical of city driving, where many whiplash injuries are caused, the system performed well, avoiding collision with the target at all but the highest test speed.
    Mercedes GLC
    ADULT OCCUPANT
The passenger compartment of the GLC remained stable in the frontal offset barrier test. The car scored maximum points for its
protection of the front passenger dummy, with good protection of all critical body areas. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger. Mercedes-Benz showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sat in different positions. In the frontal full-width rigid barrier test, the front driver scored maximum points, with good protection of all body regions. For the rear passenger, protection of the neck was adequate and that of the chest was marginal, the head and femurs being well protected. The GLC scored maximum points in both the side barrier test and the more severe side pole impact, with good protection of all critical areas of the body. ....

I might be wrong, but the pole did hit the b pillar of the body instead of the actual door from what I can tell... That resulted to the windshiel not breaking, since the force was absorbed by a structural part of the car. Again, just to be clear, my thought and opinion may be inaccurate.

It can cause high kinetic trauma. Internal organs smashed on the inside.
Although in my mb 300E i walk out of a 70 miles ph crash with a roadbarrier unscaved. Everything but the cage was completely deformed.
Also nice. On several occasions i mounted a towhook on my cars. Normally no problem. With the MB i gave up. The steel was to tough to drill a hole in.

In terms of rigidity, MB wins. But that doesn't necessarily translate to better safety. Less deformation means, greater impulse/deceleration. That is bad for internal organs. It is a compromise. Larger deformation is actually a good thing as it decelerates your body gradually. But the safety cage should not deform. That is shown by Volvo.

GLC is excellent. Look at how it applies the brakes on the full frontal collision to make sure it doesn't keep rolling anywhere. The other cars rolled away still. That means they could've rolled back into traffic or something else. Mercedes is the best.

Big differences between the 4 vehicles
    Half offset impact:
BMW = open all airbags, including the Volvo and the Audi
In the Mercedes, only the necessary airbags open at the front and on the impact side.
Straight frontal impact without passenger on passenger side:
BMW = driver's airbag and all side airbags open
Volvo = Driver and passenger airbags open, despite missing front passenger
Audi = driver's airbag and all side airbags open
Mercedes = only the required driver's airbag opens
    side impact
BMW = open all side airbags, the windscreen is broken
Volvo = only side airbag on impact side opens, the windscreen is broken
Audi = open all side airbags, the windscreen is broken, a sun visor and the rearview mirror fly through the interior and could cause head injuries
Mercedes = Only the airbag on the impact side opens, its front window remains the only one intact.
BMW, Volvo and Audi cause costs, due to unnecessarily triggered airbags or the sensors for the accident forces in the Mercedes seems to be the best, because it triggers the airbags very differentiated. In addition, the Mercedes seems to be better in side impact protection, because the windscreen is not damaged.
This also affects the cost of repairs, which is why one may assume that the Mercedes here will be cheaper than the other three vehicles. Translated with Google Translator
    ===================================================================================================
Große Unterschiede zwischen den 4 Fahrzeugen
    Halbversetzer Aufprall:

-Inexperienced drivers are focusing on the damage to the car: Benz wins out (like the pole test)
-Seasoned drivers are looking at the likely injuries on the occupants (do airbags function well?, do passengers get hurt when SUV rolls off the ground? AEB experience etc.) : then obviously Benz is the loser.
(As mentioned by other subscribers, there is missing of airbag to be released during the crash in three tests. Also, Benz's AEB is relatively rough and harsh, which is evidenced by the video)
As a Benz estate owner, i love it. However, for the sake of my family i am thinking to get a XC60 next time.

Volvo is better! What matters is the structure of the car and not the parts! When there is an accident Volvo goes ahead!
It all depends on the car design as well. As is the case with the strike on the pole. The Mercedes-Benz GLC was the only one that the front window did not break. However, it depends on the vehicle. From the angle of the glass, there are several factors!

The Euro NCAP Tests aren't as severe as the IIHS/NHTSA Test, if a manufacture can ace a IIHS/NHTSA Test then they can breeze right through a Euro NCAP Test provided they build the car the same way, which I am sure they do.

These crash tests are useless it’s obvious at 64km/h nothing bad will happen, why they do not raise the speeds at least 80km/h? Give the 5star rating only after a 80km/h test. Soon every car will have 5stars

    • @Petrol_head44
      @Petrol_head44 6 лет назад +23

Moscovciuc Artemie when our brain come to know that we are going to suffer from accident it send impulses as a result our legs press the brake pedal so considering that if you are driving at 80kmph then after pressing brakes your speed will decrese thats why the tests are performed at 60kmph

    • @Petrol_head44
      @Petrol_head44 6 лет назад +12

@Audi A7 oh man..nowdays almost all cars have four disc brakes, abs, ebd which helps to decrease the speed within few seconds the car can come to 0kmph.. and yes eventough you press brake for one time it will certainly decrease the speed.

if two opposing vehicles have a frontal crash, the effective speed is not the average but the sum of them. In your example, the crash wouldn't be 90 km/h for both but 180 km/h. Trust me, I googled it.

That is because the blow was not hard enough for them to pop out and in a frontal collision they are not needed. Looking at the results I would say the Mercedes did the best. Especially in the 4:57 test and they side pole, where you can also clearly see that only the needed airbags pop out.
