CAR VS TRUCK - Rear Underride Crash Test

- Crash test car vs semi truck
Modern semitrailers for the most part do a good job of keeping passenger vehicles from sliding underneath them, greatly increasing the chances of surviving a crash into the back of a large truck, recent tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) show. But in crashes involving only a small portion of the truck’s rear, most trailers fail to prevent potentially deadly underride.

Man, the IIHS is such an underrated organization. These guys are saving countless lives with their thorough testing!
They r not saving dummy lives though 😢
I think NCAP has better testing but both are really good
they dont do rollovers
They don't! People don't drive 35Mph on a freeway! You're gonna get killed with this retarded system of testing.
Taunter Atwill that’s why you brake idiot
The fact that the car's only going 35 mph kinda scares the shit outta me
Minecrafty012 Same
Is that much in the US? I mean that are not even 60 km/h...
Yeah, imagine the hit at a full highway speed... Your car would turn into a cabriolet with your head missing in a second
Ikr just imagine if they crash going 60mph
Oh yeah... you do this crap going 60 on the highway and no little guard rail is gonna save you, you’ll be under the rear tires
I had an accident like these ones many years ago; I was under medication and fool of me I was driving a long distance trip. I must confess that I fell asleep and crashed a trailer, I was driving a 1998 dodge sedan with no airbags, the difference of speed should have been of around 40 mph and the impact was in between 30 and 50% of the front of my car on my side! Fortunately the trailer had a very strong full-width dot bumper, very low and with posts at the outer extremes of it. My car was absolutely destroyed and I got hurt mainly on my left arm but not too bad as I was conscious and left my car walking by myself!!
I was extremely lucky.
Wow. Glad you survived. Must have been traumatic experience.
Extremely blessed to be telling the story. Stay safe!
Oh my gosh dude! Your immortal like no one would survive that!
I am glad your okay.
No,everyone around you on the road is extremely lucky you didn’t take them out with your moronic driving while drugged.
The music makes it sound like the dummy is in a boss fight with the end of that trailer and keeps respawning.

I have a convertible..... I worry about that everytime I hit the road.
my dads best friend and his wife were decapitated frm this kinda accident, except they was going highway speeds..their heads was in the backseat.
then 1 day going to work (on the highway) a guy in a trailblazer hit the back like 2o% on the side. pushed the A pillar into B pillar..steering wheel crushed his guts..still alive..i drove past 1 min after it happened..come to find out the dude who was driving worked at the place i did..they let talk to his twin 6 yr old girls (on the phone) because they said as soon as they release the pressure off his stomach he was gona die..and he did smh i don't follow semi's period. gas it and pass it is my rule.

Scary to think that so many trailers are just not suitable for highway collisions. Even with the brakes locked on, you are probably still travelling 35mph. The amount of cars sacrificed in this video is remarkable.
Dude those big rig trailers are invincible by the looks of this.
They do weigh 15,000 pounds empty on average. The tractor that's pulling it weighs 20,000 pounds without a trailer. The trailer is usually loaded with about 45,000 pounds of whatever.

In India, tipper lorrys don't even have that steel thing on its back to stop the colliding vehicle. We just go to its wheels while the upper part will decapitate us.
The humanity is able to explore space but not able to Build safe trailers....
Chief Ray Or better yet, safer cars. Trailers can take alot of damage especially if they're carrying a heavy load, but the driver.. R.I.P
Chief Ray the problem has nothing to do with "safer" trailers. It has everything to do with assholes on the road not paying attention and running into the vehicle in front of them. Want to stop that problem ? Remove ALL the safety bs from vehicles along with all warning labels from everything. Lett the retards cull themselves from the herd.
Chief Ray it's not the trailers job to worry about the idiots behind it. But if the idiots behind it paid any attention to the car in front of them then they can avoid this. And you aren't supposed to ride right behind these trailers anyways.
Explore space? You mean spending all of the country's money on the military... 2% of it goes for "Space"... now that's where humanity is fucked, when all of it goes for military...
ROTAXD if i'm on highway min 60 mph and truck stops suddenly (another car in front of it had issues) but i kept 2 car spaces between us, do you still think I can make it? I wanna say there are 100 seniors that are not often fault of the driver behind trucks!!!
I saw this happen in real life when I was in high-school about 11 years ago when texting and driving dangers weren't as well known or regulated. The semi truck stopped at a red light and the person in the car was texting and driving going probably 30mph and didn't stop in time. It was fatal, obviously, and scarred me for life. I refused to drive for about 5 years after I witnessed that, and still after I have the utmost respect when I'm behind the wheel because of how dangerous it is to operate a vehicle.
I guess the 2400 dislikes are from 2010 Chevy Malibu owners.
Lol, they are death traps😂 Look at the way the roof peels back
So horrifying to see car crash like this
Please no text or talk on cell phones when you driving
So basically on most of those trailers the welds were just for show.
Yes. The DOT Bars (thats what they are called in the US) are not made to take that kind of force.
@@BrowncoatInABox Their actual name is an ICC Bumper (DOT is industry slang),and they are specifically designed to collapse at a controlled rate ,otherwise it would be like hitting a brick(or steel) wall.
@@kasmanien "hitting a wall".. isn't it much safer in this kind of situation? I'd prefer brick solid bar under the trailer
@@equim7363 The design is intended to dissipate the energy from impact gradually ,where as a "wall" would just reflect the energy back all at once causing it to be absorbed by the vehicle hitting it ,this design though spreads the energy from impact out to the ICC Bumper, the vehicle, and the trailer chassis.Of course if the impact is great enough all of this is basically pointless because you're dead,no matter what the details may be.
Id rather have an engine get pushed in and break my legs than have my head decapitated by the trailer. This is basically a cheap way to produce semi trailers.
I got so into this for some reason, that I found myself cheering at the crashes where the trailer successfully protected the cabin

Most American trailers don't have side under-ride guards either. That's why that Tesla driver died, the car went straight underneath cutting the driver's head off.
Damn dude i can't even imagine that horrifying scene.
Tesla driver died because the technology failed to register a fucking big rig in the lane, AFTER the truck driver failed to see him coming. tech and complacency killed the man, not a lack of guards.
+fluffykittynoodles Obviously, a guard on the side of the trailer would stop drivers from dying, when Autopilot failed is another matter entirely.
+Floppydopda maybe. but it more than likely would have never happened if the tech caught the trailer ahead of him, or he was driving.

This is a good example of why you should never follow semi's too closely when driving at high speeds (like on highways). At city speeds (under 25 MPH) it's not as bad probably, but this should be enough to make you think twice before tailgating a semi on the highway. As they always say in driver's ed, "always leave yourself an 'out'" (meaning leave enough room).
