The writers did it for shock value to boost ratings, they obviously didn't think what would happen later down the line.
Nowadays Eastenders is just crap because any half-decent character was killed off

Actually Andrew gave him the nickname Yog his family called him his Greek name and Andrew called him “yogurt” and then “yog” for short. Probably sound like Heather now 😂

And we lived in the same village as the health spa in the country where all the stars use to go and stay.
I was in ore/once in my life I was to speechless and shy to say anything, well said hi to me and gave me his autograph which by the way got stolen, I was gutted.
That was roughly over 37 years ago.
The 80s was great we were there, great times,great memories.
