What kind of head coach does the Canadian men's national team need? And why are international and American managers seemingly being preferred to Canadian options? The Footy Prime crew discuss the search for a new manager and the process behind the scenes to finding the right fit - supposedly, with advisement by... someone(s).

Wilford Nancy would be a no brainer, moved to Canada in 2005,is a coach that connects with his players

Interesting to think about who you all talk to that they'd be hesitant to want an American. Maybe a good point from Craig about inculcating an environment that encourages coaching development.
But not one fan I talked to had an issue with an American coach.

I'd still like to hear some discussion around already employed gaffers. I still hold out hope we could poach Christiansen from Panama, but also recognize he can't be opening sniffing around the Canada job while he's committed to see Panama through to '26. Surely he would be interested, no?

Fully agree with Jimmy on just about everything he's said re: Canadian coaching. If the national team wasn't at the level that it currently is, plus Copa and WC right around the corner, I would be fully on board with a Canadian, like Smyrniotis, cutting his national coaching chops with Canada.
Dasovic is a great example of Canadians not getting a shot coaching, how have no CPL teams given him a shot as a head coach?

What a load of horseshit. We've had a pile of Canadian managers, our current manager though interim, is Canadian. We are interviewing 3 more. If we are able to attract a candidate who has significant experience managing at the top of the game, we should just ignore them because they're not Canadian? The comment about Kevin Blue looking out for Americans because he went to Stanford is just absolutely moronic. Full stop. If that motivated him at all, do you think he would have come in to work for an organization in as dire a state as the CSA?!? This screams people being cut out of the process whinging about it.
Had a good laugh about the badges comment from Craig as well, they're pushing those because we need to have some formality in the training and development of coaches, not because getting a license automatically entitles you to a job in CS. Sweet Jesus we are all dumber having listened to this.

Mauro has looked terrible. There's no way he should be even considered. He had 5 training sessions ahead of T&T, and we saw 10 or 11 corner kicks in the first half that couldn't reach a Canadian. How the hell does that happen? What were they training on if not set plays? And holy hell, everybody knew exactly how T&T were going to approach the match tactically, and Mauro did zip to negate that - he allowed it to happen and it very nearly burned us. This squad of players deserves a proper tactician.
