All this talk of a new Canadian men's national team manager has us thinking (and, you lot, commenting!) - should Canada Soccer prioritize hiring a head coach from within Canada instead of going international?
We respond to your RUclips comments, before welcoming TSS Rovers FC's Will Cromack to the show to talk about his team's upcoming Canadian Championship battle vs. Pacific FC. - Развлечения
Keep going guys
Always love hearing Will talk about growing the game and the development ladder/system in Canada.
Okay, okay now that we know he can't pronounce Saint-Laurent, get him to say croissant so we have a really good laugh!
I love that you guys all have a great sense of humour,l & don't take yourselves too seriously, despite the fact that you don't even know what you are babbling about...
Seriously though, great conversation.
I was sitting here agreeing with Craig that we have such a fierce rivalry with the U.S. in so many ways, that it would not be appropriate to have a U.S. coach & then I thought about the fact that I was very happy to have ex-Raptors coach, Nick Nurse, coach Canada's national basketball team because he always showed a lot of respect for Canada & he was without question, the best man for the job...
Craig Forrest is an absolute legend.
I think you also have to consider that by hiring a Canadian Coach who may be qualified on paper with the right coaching badges etc.. the possibility that you are setting them up to fail at exactly the wrong time in their career. Wouldn’t it be better to instead groom these talented and experienced Canadian coaches by offering them the opportunity to coach the U17’s or the U21’s as a stepping stone to the top job (a la Gareth Southgate in England). There are so many advantages to that approach including continuity going forward as you would hope that the U17’s and 21’s offer a gateway to the senior team not only from a player perspective but from a coaching perspective as well. It requires a Sporting Director to be put in place to ensure consistency across the various age groups (as appropriate) and god forbid a cohesive master plan.
For some countries, the passport does not matter but in the case of Canada and its "soccer" evolution. Yes, nationality matters particularly vis-a-vis the US.
It should be like anything; if you have a highly talented person who is uniquely qualified than you hire that person (unless there is a Canadian of similiar, doesn't have to be exact, qualifiactions. Since there are no Canadians currently coaching with Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1 or Bundesliga (CONMEBOL or a top tier UEFA, AFC, or CAF side) head coaching experience than it's fine to look elsewhere. If there was one (or a few) with that top tier experience interested in a job, then you would have to give that Canadian the priority.
We are lucky to have the best coach in N. America right now, and he's a Canadian citizen , and coached in Montreal and won the last MLS cup-- Wilfred Nancy. What makes you think he's not as good as many of the coaches in those leagues you mention?
@@ericrallison4002 You have guys who play in the best leagues in the world and at the highest level (i.e. Champions League). Herdman's "Ted Lasso" inspiration worked because the national programme was literally starting from nothing without any expectation. You need someone with that pedigree of experience to get the buy-in and respect and a dude who's ever only just coahced MLS isn't gonna cut it this time round unfortunately.
Wheeldon Junior is also very capable not just the Forge coach. Thats an Eastern Canadian bias.
They've mentioned him before. He'd be a good candidate.
I honestly hoped they would consider him for the president of CSA, he’s paved the way for football’s entire landscape in Calgary for over a decade. Plus Cavalry will need to let him move upwards at some point, and CSA is that only step up right now.
I don't follow soccer enough but if you're only considering Canadians for manager, doesn't that just put you at a competitive disadvantage? Being honest, international managers just have way more experience and knowledge.
just look what a mess he did in Leeds
Have they already asked the abundantly obvious domestic choice, Wilfred Nancy?
Anybody but an American….. i mean, Craig hit the nail on the head.
No American, thank you. Thats a slap in the face of potential Canadian coaches.
Not if that American has coached at the highest level. That is the only reason why you would hire an American (or any other nationality) over a Canadian. If you have a Canadian who has coached at those levels (even if they don't have the same experience or qualifications) than the Canadian takes priority. Unfortunately, there's really no Canadians as of now who even have that top tier experience.
ONE THING ONLY ........NOT AMERICAN
