    I think Canada can have their cake and eat it too, and Marsch seems to be taking this approach. They want to play aggressive through pressing but not necessarily by pushing way forward and creating openings where your opponent hurts you. Everyone presses but the back 4 stay home while those up front are the ones that push the attack.

    • @connorstewart708
      @connorstewart708 4 дня назад

      You can’t press high if ur back 4 “stay at home” if you press high the back 4 has to push up as well or else there’s way to much space in the middle of the pitch that’s the point of playing a high line

    • @greglawrence9230
      @greglawrence9230 4 дня назад

      @@connorstewart708 I understand. Marsch spoke about this recently. He said people tend to think that pressing must mean pressing as soon as the opposing goalie moves the ball (pressing high), but it can also mean allowing your opponent to carry the ball forward and then pressing them further back. This then creates the changes for transitional play with room to run.

    You guys are justifying these stars missing games, when it is the MLS who are most hurt by this. It is a credibility issue. Kawhi Leonard's "load management" approach has gotten tons of negative press, saying that the NBA league is a bit of a joke. At the end of the day, tickets for a game, should be looked at as the league's contract with fans to put their best entertainment on the field/pitch/ice. It is not about making the millionaire players more comfortable. Is it okay if you pay hundreds of dollars to watch a top band play music in Vancouver; but the lead singer & a few other band members don't go because of the travel & because they will be playing in New York & Boston a few days later? Of course not! Well, this is no bloody different! If the Oilers come to town, I definitely want to see McDavid play because I love the game & I want to see excellence. I don't care if my team has a better chance of winning. I only saw Gretzky play once & I loved it, yet I was not an Oilers fan. It was a sports memory for a lifetime. This is no different for huge soccer fans.

    What's this BS about the MLS being "an American League?" The NHL, MLB and NBA are each "an American League!" Pro sports for Canada IS integration with US leagues. And it's time for Canadian soccer fans to face reality: if the MNT does not do well in 2025 and ultimately 2026, the CPL will fold. There is no market for the CPL under the current level of market interest. One Soccer or podcasts like this one only get a very small number of views and viewership.

      The NHL is only an American league because we handed it to them. MLB and NBA each have one Canadian team in imitation sports, so who cares. Pro sports is integrated (other than the CPL and CFL) with the US, but it _shouldn't_ be. We're an independent country.

    The reason that the CPL/CSB are not involved in this investment with Marsch is because they're not going to donate money to hire a non-CPL coach. They wanted Bobby there as a success story they could pump so Kevin had to go outside to get money for an appropriate coach. CSB have been buying up L1 leagues all over the country to help secure even more voting control in the CSA, they're not only at the table, they practically own it. Kevin inviting 3 bigger sharks to sit at that table is a counter weight. He's a smart guy, he knows how bad the CSB deal is and he's doing whatever he can to try and wrestle some power back.

    Everyone needs to listen to Jesse Marsch’s final podcast with CBS Golazo “Call it what you want” podcast. He explains all the decision makers in the hiring process, the philanthropic investment by Canadian MLS clubs. Speaks about the experience in recruiting that Kevin Blue and has from his NCAA fundraising and recruiting which is all recruiting student athletes to major universities, and how that will be powerful with Jesse Marsch’s experience in recruiting players to European football clubs, as they take that joint experience in the recruitment of dual-nationals to stay with the Canadian team. The incredible action taker and mover and shaker that Kevin Blue is. This podcast will shed a lot of light on all the questions. I would love to hear a Footy Prime episode after you have all listened. I have to say that although there was no bashing of Marsch the person on this podcast, there certainly was “bashing” of the hire as opposed to a CPL hire. CPL teams don’t have the money to make philanthropic donations/investments, I’m not sure why this is a discussion. CPL Commissioner Mark Noonan opened up in a December 2023 interview that CPL owners are $125 Million in the hole, research the CPL’s financial viability. And it is in the best interest of Canadian MLS clubs to invest in the CMNT. Why can’t investment in the men’s program be okay like it is for the woman’s team. And no CPL manager has the resume or experience of Jesse Marsch in recruiting players to a side, as well as coaching. Stop being so cynical. Please listen to the podcast!

      I mean isn’t the CPL the main reason Canada Soccer has financial problems? I read on TSN that Canada Soccer could be in dire straits if Canada goes far into Copa America because they have to payout player bonuses. It’s crazy if you want to pin your hopes on CPL. Toronto is a top MLS club… it’s just they haven’t performed well in the last several years (same as the LA Galaxy, and we are starting to see the cracks at Seattle). I don’t think Canadian MLA clubs are looking from the outside… it’s more the frugal nature of Vancouver and Montreal that limits their ambitions.

In fact, I would argue that his dogmatic approach to the game led to a divide between his expectations and the type of players he ad to work with. Anyway, we will see.

I think with some tweaks, the 4-2-3-1 should suit this group of players very, very well. Craig is a grumpy old bear (not unlike myself), but he's very right about Marsch's tactics potentially continuing to leave Canada very exposed. In that formation, feels like Davies needs to play in fullback. If Eustaquio hangs back as a 6 whenever Davies makes runs forward, we should be able to hold things together reasonably well at the back. Kone can be free/encouraged to move further forward. Gotta keep 4 at the back, though - that's where we'll need some more discipline than we've had. So excited about June!!
