Since you asked; I would have preferred Thomas Christiansen, but am excited about Marsch. His tactics are a good fit and I believe he truly is excited about working with this group. He's North American, and so are we. ;) In seriousness, I hope he'll work to keep the defense disciplined, cause his tactics in a 4-2-3-1 will be very exciting but will also leave our questionable defensive line vulnerable. So curious to see who he brings to camp.

I truly agree I think if Christiansen was in the running I’d have preferred him with his managerial success within concacaf. The 4 in the back will be very exciting puts our best players in there best positions! I also will love to see Marsch use Cornelius by far our best CB and if he pairs him with Bombito should be exciting. Will be interesting to see the first camp and if there’s a mix up of the squad.

Given the reliance on athletic players in Marsch’s system, in your opinion what do you think he will do with Alistair Johnson? I believe Davies will push to play higher up the pitch leaving a potential gap on the back line. Would Adekugbe and Laryea be more in line with the profile of player Marsch typically uses in his system, or do you feel A. Johnson would still start on the back line?

I've been thinking about where Johnston might plug in, too. Previously, I was feeling like I wanted to see him in a CDM. But with the central CB questions I've been wondering about trying him in a central CB. But he's obviously challenged on height and is not the fastest. In a 4-2-3-1, maybe Johnston sits next to Eustaquio above the defense line (maybe Eustaquio in a 6 role with Johnston more of an 8)? Because the other big question is who plays in the 10? I really like Hoilett but obviously Kone could work really well there if Johnston could take his spot further back. Osorio could sub into the 10 to finish off a game. I tend to think that Davies should go to full back and Ahmed plays left wing. I think Adekugbe fits into a Marsch system just fine, but if Davies played on the left could Adekugbe play right full back? I think Laryea fits it just fine at right full back but he isn't likely available this summer. A bunch of related questions around all this....

Brilliant question! Alistair Johnston I still believe will be starting even if he isn't the fastest fullback out there. Looking back Marsch brought in Rasmus Kristensen to Leeds. When Kristensen wasn't the fastest fullback either Kristensen is a taller fullback who is strong in a tackle. Johnston is also very good with the ball at his feet, and keeping position which Marsch also values. But another key is Alistair's leadership will be important for Marsch coming into a new squad. With Adekugbe I think he would've been a good option to start still although injury doesn't help. I do think Laryea is an exciting option to start at left back with his pace and athleticism especially overlapping Alphonso Davies on that flank.

Yeah I do agree and think we will play a 4-2-3-1 . But I do think Johnston is still a great right back and will be playing there for us. When Marsch brought in Kristensen at Leeds he was tall but wasn't extremely fast either so I think Alistair Johnston will still have a starting role at Right back. Our midfield will really depend I think on the match on how he deploys his midfield. Hoilett currently is our best bet to lineup at the 10 but we can also drop David to play their as well. We can also see Kone lineup there as you said to which is an interesting option. As moving Kone up means you just play Eustaquio and Choiniere behind him We also have Stefan Mitrovic as a dual national who can maybe be convinced with the appointment of Marsch to choose Canada too. Yeah there is so many moving parts now in this lineup with a completely different new system and tactical outlook. I will try do a breakdown around each of the specific areas in question. If you would like to see that as well.

@@ontherise- Good thoughts on Johnston. He is a workhorse - ready to give 110% at all times. Seems like he fits perfectly with what Marsch would want. While David is a great choice as a 10, the problem is that Larin cannot provide the press that Marsch will want up front from the 9. You gotta think Larin's involvement is really in question, in fact....

Yeah David is a great shout at 10 but my preferred choice would be Kone at 10 which would allow David to still play up top as a 9. But I do agree Larin pressing can lack in some matches and his performances this season have definitely been dropping. I think Marsch could look to utilize Ugbo, Bair, and JRR a lot more younger with a lot more pace and hunger to win the ball back.
