So happy you're loving my country and in particular my state of Queensland. I'm a Brisbane born and bred old boy living by the bay.

As you drive into the township of Daintree, the road passes close to the river (Daintree River). You would be extremely unlucky if you looked at the far bank of the river to not see at least one monster warming up on the far bank. For over a decade I taught at Mossman high school. It the school that services the Mossman area - the nearby beaches, Port Douglas and Daintree. I had new student who had moved from Victoria. I asked how his first reaction was to the move. He replied that he and his family went waterskiing. I was fascinated as speed boats are banned from the closest lakes, so I asked him where. "In the Daintree River" was the reply.

Does anyone remember "way back when" --- they tried to dam the river and flood the daintree ... and the vitriol that was heaped on the greenies (and still to this day)! Guys, the people who saved this world wonder should be lauded as heros!

@@letsmadventure you had no idea because it never happened. the dam i assume she is talking about is on the franklin river in tasmania.
there were greenies in the daintree that held their own protest against that dam.
but the protests in the daintree relevant to the daintree were protesting the road that was built through it. the road that your tour went on.
so when they said the road would be good for tourism and awareness they were 100% correct.

I love the Daintree Ice Cream. Mossman Gorge in the Wet Season when the rain falls … take a spare set of cloths in a waterproof bag and change if needed at the Visitors Centre. Coincidentally I was looking at my photos just today of the understory of the Daintree rainforest.

Daintree only formed 1949 from gum forest after a cyclone. Mt Lewis is positively spectacular same with Bartle Frere

Glad to have journeyed there before all that 1000 dollar a day tourism crap showed up.

Wow! Luckily we didn't pay that much. We definitely would have loved to go on our own and experienced it more authentically & slowly. I looked into it, but I'm not going to lie, I'm kind of scared to try driving on the left side of the road and right side of the car, especially on those narrow winding roads and ferry hahaha.
