  • My 1st ride on the 20 year old AN400 Suzuki Burgman 400
A great bike it's not got the grunt of my BMW but if it was my only choice I wouldn't have any issue's.
These Maxi scooter's have really changed my views there great frugal cheap to run and one of the best bikes for comfort.
    Sorry for the sound
    Hope you enjoy

I had one new in 2002 went to Croatia on it in 2006 then moved up to Silverwing. Brought a 1999 one about 8 years ago used it about 12 months then sold it .

had the same model 1999.(bought mine 2008) Good points = speed , fuel economy and comfort. bad points Had it for 10 years once the coils + general electrics burn out after about 10k cold cold starts and reliability become a night mare. if not for this I would have keep for another 10 years you really can get attached to this machine.Scooter mechanics hate this model. now riding a Burgman 650 amazing but juicy and geared for cruising cant compare to the Burgman AN400 around town. Overall Burgman AN400 is great but wears out to soon

@@birchwoodbiker yep I replaced the starter relay on the side once and the starter motor at least 3 times and the rectifier I lost count.in the tens years I had it. I bought it with 12000 on the clock and cosmetically looked amazing from a Suzuki dealer worker. I used it as second daily work horse. other bike back then was a Yamaha fazer. sold the AN400 maybe a year and half ago so had it longer than 10 years more like 14years. It rode amazing 10/10 engine never seems to be straining.(when it was working) 400cc engine works a gem. exceleration is awesome even compared to recent scooters but modern 125cc scooters Yam Tmax etc. are just as rapid now. The electrics just wear out too soon with no obvious signs as to why...had to ride with an an extra battery + jump starter under the seat. It rides perfect with with a passenger on the back though too. After 10k or so its tools, panels off and a lot of replacing starter/ ignition parts. Despite this its ride quality, speed, take off speed, comfort to me was second to none Wirth a true scooter engine. My 650 Burgman is a motorbike engine in a scooter body which is not the same at all. beware the AN400 is addictive and has to go up in flames before you realise you should have got rid of it years ago. would still give it a a healthy 9/10 because wen mine was woking I was envious of no other scooter on the road. It an amazing early generation example. Every one I have met that owned this first model love it

Had a couple of Burgman 400's over the years. Racked up many many miles on both. Great bikes! Although I always found the under seat storage more than ample. Not sure I would like that huge top box sat that far back on the bike. Might make handling a bit twitchy on windy days at higher speeds. Thanks for the video m8

@@birchwoodbiker First one was of a similar age, the second was a K5 from memory. Been riding Kymco Maxi scoots since. Still miss the legroom and comfort of the Burgervan 😃

@@birchwoodbiker When some of the supply chain woes ease up I may get the chance to do a test ride. The C400X does look like an interesting bike, if a tad pricey. The TMAX has always been a bike I would have loved to own if I had the spare cash 🙂 I have also considered the new Honda ADV350 but again, no bikes to test ride round here.

I've got one at the moment, and have thought about other bikes and/or scoots, but TBH I can't think of anything which is as practical or as cheap and easy to service as the Burgman and I've had lots of other bikes and scooters over the years.
