- TreeStuff.com's Nick Bonner gives some highlights from the progression of saddles and climbing systems over time in the arborist industry. Featuring the new Matt Cornell Rope Saddle and the Singing Tree Rope Runner. High quality saddles can make all the different in arborist comfort, and the knots, hitches, and equipment used can drastically change the way you climb.
Very NICE presentation, Nick! Good job. Can't wait for that Matt Cornell Rope Saddle!!!
Fantastic outline .... really gives a newcomer like me a better idea of the options out there... more please!
Nice work Nick!
very helpful video ! well spoken and easily interpreted . would recommend viewing this video before any first timers go buying all there gear !
Tree Stuff . really liking you guys. gonna shoot a video of the rig and ring i got from you guys, i've used it a couple times and really like it for the trim jobs where i don't want to have to go retrieve a pulley when i'm done.
Thanks! This is quite helpful.
Jolly good show
What is this first block knot? Thanks for this video, it's very good!
That’s me calling. Looking for an extra long split tail to tie a self-tending double Blake’s hitch so I can unsnap for re-directs. Nothing more solid, secure and trouble free than DRT Blake’s.
Good video. Yes- that last set up is simply the best. The Cornell Rope Saddle combined with the rope runner. Would be hard to improve that SRT system. Nice!
Cornell Rope Saddle? good of you to write what it is, since the room acoustics are poor and the mic is distant from the guy.
I've got my eye in the edelrid but I'm not sure if I should just wait for the Cornell. Whatcha think Nick?
I'm so "old school" that I think I would have a hard time just getting used to some of this stuff. BUT---, I'm willing to try!
+arboristBlairGlenn There are NO advantages, only disadvantages, cost hardware clash, to name a few...
+the jackel I'm willing to check it out but change is difficult for me.
arboristBlairGlenn I was willing to try also. So I purchased a weaver wide back floating D saddle and I've had it for about 2 weeks now and I absolutely hate it, I cannot stand the leg strap saddles! And the floating bridge sucks when you want to stay upright while suspended in mid-air and reaching for something to your right or left. I guess that's the point but I don't work sideways. I'm going to give it to my 23 year old son and buy a regular good old-fashioned butt strap 4 D saddle just like the old worn out weaver I'm trying to replace. I've been missing it like an old friend. No I'm not going to win any trophies but at least I'll be comfortable and have my chi back haha
@Rusty Climber: Every job, tree is different, if you think that you are able to climb ( to the top ) of a conifer faster with a jumaring type system, over gaffing, you are mistaken...
that works
Nick, I am thinking about buying a Knotch Sentinel saddle. I know you guys have them. I have also seen them advertised as Knotch Sentinel-Parent. Can you tell me what the difference , if any.
What happened to the Matt Cornell Rope Saddle? What replaced it if anything?
I recently upgraded to the rope runner pro, but still using the Weaver 4d saddle. I usually climb drt, but it's kind of a pain with that setup. Do you have any tips for me?
On that weaver 4d saddle, do you have any preference for the 2" leg straps (as you used in this video) over the 1" leg straps or vice versa? I can't find any blogs on it
Hey Brian,
It all just comes down to the distribution of your weight and the pressure that's going to put on your legs. A decent rule of thumb is the wider the strap, the more comfortable it's going to be.
TreeStuffdotcom Awesome, thanks a lot for the help
CAN SOMEBODY GET THAT
+Robert Sheffey Everything shown in the video is available at www.TreeStuff.com
