Perhaps the greatest live concert experience was James Brown in his prime between the late 50s and 70s. It was his prowess as a showman that set the stage for Michael Jackson to take it to the next level in his day. His place in history as a showman AND a musician is just about unparalleled. As a bandleader, he influenced the likes of Prince, and as a beat maker, countless hip-hop groups like Public Enemy and Heavy D and the Boyz and so on and so forth. When it comes to the hip-hop sampling of his music, the list is ENDLESS. He also used his platform as an instrument of political liberation during the days of the Black Power Revolution. To put it mildly, he was simply a BAD MOTHA...shut yo mouth!!! I'm just talkin' bout the Godfather!
