James Brown was a part of my Renaissance as a young black man in the 1960s. He made me understand the significance of being black in America. I will be forever grateful for the confidence he instilled and many young black Americans during that turbulent time.
What's crazy is they didn't have the money to pay him for the set, but the crowd was growing restless and he understood the assignment and still went on to play an amazing set
I was at this show and it was cool to see them put the god father of soul in last minute at woodstock 99, the guy was like 65 or something years of age, dancing his ass of in a suit on a 99 degree morning. the band was sooo unbelievably tight it was crazy. there's like 15 ppl on stage at one time. LOL Good times!
I went down a two-month rabbit hole of watching pretty much every band's performance at this concert. Nearly everyone had a "long" introduction, creating tension before eventually coming on to the stage. Most build ups were about five minutes. Some bands were a bit bolder and pushed it to ten. I find is absolutely awesome and hysterical that James Brown had a full 20-MINUTE introduction before he came on stage. And every second of it worked. He really was the king in every way.
@@prettybigchannel6500 yeah but he usually does a long intro anyway, he was threatening to leave before coming on i think his band already being out there adds pressure to the venue to pay straight away. either way majority of concerts he does a long intro so maybe he knows it can add pressure to pay all the money before he comes on but i'm sure he also knew the intro add tension delayed gratification basically. evidence that it was part of the show is because of how well choreographed it is up until james comes on not to mention he had a support act, the 20 min intro was part of the show. And the fact his band run such a precise premise, everything is on time and pre practiced to make sure the show is smooth. it's hard to believe they were improvising for 20 mins without looking at each other or giving cues and there was not mistakes or off notes.
@@timverrecchia1654 the promoter pretty much told his manager that there were a quarter of a million people out there who weren’t going to leave if he didn’t play. That along with the fact that JB was the only act who didn’t sign a contract for Woodstock 99 but he ended up going out anyway 🤷🏻♂️
A man that needs no introduction, and yet has a 20 minute introduction anyway. I'm so glad to have seen him play several times before he passed on. Such an amazing talent. The nod to Hendrix was super!

This is far the best Woodstock of 1999 , I don’t think other Woodstock’s will ever be like this one , this one was far the best are greatest Lineup ever to Exist
Ohhhhhh my goodness!!! Were you ever introduced to 1969? This crowd was destructive, angry, tore things down. My generation did leave a muddy pile of garbage, but it was all done in LOVE! (Might have been a bit too high, too!). Lol! But true!! There should have never been other attempts, even for an anniversary. Times and people’s’ attitudes changed too much. Only my opinion. I’m glad I didn’t attend this one.......well, I’m a bit too old now to deal with crowd fights and disrespect for the musicians themselves.
I’m very glad you enjoyed it, though! Music 🎼 is the Universal Language! God bless and safely keep you and all here, in Jesus’s Precious Name, Amen!!!🕊💕🙏💜✝️✡️🙋♀️🌹 🎵 🎶 🎤🌟
