  • Here I have stripped off the majority of the raw water system of my Yanmar 2QM15 after it over heated at sea. So far the thermostat is dead and the both zincs

I have a 1992 Toyota Hilux with the 3.0 3vze engine. It has had an oil leak for the last year or so, however is getting worse. I thought it was the rocker cover gaskets. However after doing an egr valve delete to access the passenger side (it’s LHD) and changing those the oil leak is still present. I’m about to degrease the oil deposits as best I can, and hope I can pin point the leak. Likely an oil port leak from cylinder 6. (The classic issue with these crossover exhaust pipe breaking down the head gasket with extended heating). Wish me luck. Love this engine series, I’ll call if you I have any issue and keep you updated. Keep up the good work.

Ah awesome brother nice to here from you and get after that leak you absolute legend! Do you use hylomar blue on you gaskets? That could help too?

@@solosailinghomeschool8627 I never have, but I was pretty impressed with the gasket you made with the gasket paper and hylomar blue. not sure it'll work for my particular application, but will definitely be keeping it in mind if I find a suited purpose for it. Turns out the oil cooler gasket had one of the major leaks after degreasing, struggling to find an aftermarket seal. I'm calling Toyota in the morning.

@@caustin1234 yea finding gaskets for older engines seems to be quite Tricky so definitely going to get a few sheets of gasket paper

Very good video, thank you for doing these. Two questions, can you change the rear zinc without opening the big square bolt? I mean if I can get the housing off. And when you take off/put on the heat alarm sender, does it go easily on the thread and all the way? Mine is really tight to take out and put back, I'm thinking maybe the housing is filled with crap. We'll we see when/if I get them zincs loose

Is this boat in fresh or salt water? Is this a saltwater Yanmar? (F) in the model number would mean it is for freshwater.

Good question, it’s on a sail boat that has to my knowledge always been on salt water. I had no info on the engine when I bought it, so had to work out what it was from manual diagrams. And an original advert I found for the boat. The engine is I believe the Yanmar 2QM15 with the M I presume meaning Marine?
