For anyone wondering. Thomas is no longer with 2nd Swing, but wishing him the best! He took a great new position as Director of Instruction and Operations at Swing Lab Performance Golf. Looks like they are just starting their RUclips journey. Meanwhile, keep up the great reviews 2nd Swing!!

I'm 73, I already have a Titleist TS1 10 degree, stiff 40 gr shaft, had it set to 11.5 and did better than I have done with any other driver (tried many). Saw a review of an older guy on "2nd Swing" playing a new TSR1 12 degree set to 13.5 and he was hitting it 230-245. I was only hitting my 10 degree about 205-210. So went to see if I could find a used one in 12 degrees. Found one, but with more of a senior shaft, so I looked for a left over TS1 in 12 degree (plus I can swap shafts with my other driver) Found new one with regular shaft for only $399 instead of $599 for the TRS1. Took it out today, playing by myself, I was able to have time to hit 4 drives with the new club on the same hole, WOW, 3 shots all looked just the same and were within 10 feet of each other, at 230-233 yrds. The other shot did not get much altitude, but was still at 220 yards. First time hitting it!!

I tried a number of the newest drivers, like Ping, callaway and TM. My swing speed is in the low 90s. The TSR1 was the longest and straightest of all the drivers. I’m driving much further and in the fairway. Well worth the purchase

As a senior (70) I have been testing different clubs and recently switched from the stealth driver to the tsi1 (custom fitted with total cost of £350) and a great cb shaft. What a difference and delight. My best driver by far and totally reliable. However though I did not get to test the tsr’s partly being a leftie and availability - did test the fairway and hybrid of the tsi1 but did not take to them as too fairway wood like. Was looking for a complement to my 3 epic super hybrid and have not found the one yet though seems to be between the stealth 2 hybrid and the apex 21 hybrid. Latter really nice and has a similar look and feel as the super hybrid and good numbers. Will test the tm’s soon and decide accordingly. Do like the look of the stealth 2 std hybrid. Depends on the numbers. Must say as you both said I live the clean look of the driver - for example can it stand the turbulators of the ping g430

I was fitted into the tsr2 head with the tsr1 shaft shortened to 45, swing weight c9. Really pleased so far. My swing speed is upper80’s to mid90’s

I’m curious if the TSR1 driver was engineered for 90mph club speed, is their a structural issue and warranty issue for users that substantially exceed 90mph? My dilemma is I have demoed both the TSR3 & 4. We changed the weights on TSR4 around as well. I love the look and feel of these driver heads. The problem I have is the launch numbers and to lesser degree the spin consistency.
Related issue is the swingweight. I initially tested with the stock Tensei black shaft in 6X. It was ok but felt very wooden. I also wasn’t comfortable with the length, I play at 44.75” length, a full 1” shorter than stock. Eventually I tested with my current gamer shaft Speeder NX 50X and we tried the new Diamana GT 50X @45”. Results were much improved, launch was near my target @11.8*, I prefer 12.5*. Spin was more consistent at 2465, which is my exact target though the deviation of 370 was less ideal due to a few

On gapping by the way agree with you both. I don't use any fairway wood and don't need or miss them. Driver then hybrid then irons (and possibly a second hybrid to fill the gap between my six iron and 3 hybrid). Pity the tsi1 hybrid did not work out but have two other good options to consider. Brand agnostic.

All the major brands make great clubs, BUT as a lefty Ping gives the most options in the forgiving clubs! I mean where can I get a 7 hybrid to make the game easier? Ping! I am a 4 handicap in my 50’s and can’t wait to get new Ping’s this summer!

  • @williamcassidy8679

Note, I think it is suppose to be a 5 hybrid, not 7, when they show the clubs at the very beginning, it shows 5/23. I have seen 4, 5, and 6 in stores, but not a 7. I think he got mixed up when he was commenting that the size of the head "looks" like a 7 fairway wood, which it does. The TSR1 hybrids and fairway wood (head size) are larger than most other makes.

100%. Her swing speeds are about 5-7 mph behind mine but her totals are roughly the same!? Just insane efficiency. I’m excited if I get a 1.47 smash factor with my driver and she hit like three or four in a row at 1.50 smash.

Serious lack in this demo is no info at all about the shaft, weight and flex, even though it clearly had a definite influence on her swing.

Thanks for watching and providing feedback. Definitely something we should have included here for sure. What I can tell you is the stock shafts for TSR1 are 40g (35g for women), and they are made slightly longer, helping increase swing speed, launch, and spin

@@2ndswing Thanks for getting back to me. Here's a story perhaps of interest only to you pro fitters, TMI for most viewers. I asked about the shafts because I am right now looking at two TSR1 hybrids, a 26 degree 6 and a 23 degree 5, to replace classic forged blade weak lofted long irons because I am 83. Have played for over 62 years. For budget reasons as a retiree I am a bargain hunter and scour online and pro shops for prior models. Have bought from 2nd Swing, Callaway pre-owned, and demo sales, try to get only mint condition. I am a member of the PGA Tour Super Store near me, so have access to bays with Foresight GC Hawk overhead monitors and screens so I can compare different clubs and get actual data to see what works best for me. Kind of self fitting. I also follow closely club fitters like you and several others I consider to be the best on RUclips. Shafts play a very important role in this.
What makes things a bit more complicated is that I am also considering these TSR1 hybrids as possible alternatives, not necessarily replacements, to equivalent high lofted fairway woods I have bought in the past year as I felt I preferred them to hybrids. These are a Callaway Paradym 27 degree 11W and 24 degree 9W. The 9W has an Aldila Ascent 50 gram R flex shaft, but the 11W has an Aldila Ascent 50 gram A flex shaft. I still have enough swing speed to make R flex work. My driver, a Callaway Epic GBB Sub Zero 10.5, has a Graphite Design Tour AD-IZ 5 R-1 flex shaft. (Oddly enough, I also have a XXIO black 10.5 driver with a Miyazaki AX-1 47.5 gram 4333 IFC flex that I bought from you in perfect condition for a fantastic price,) My Callaway Epic 3W, 5W and 7W all have HZRDUS Smoke iM10 5.5 R flex 60 gram shafts. So understandably I had my doubts about the A flex 11W and looked for one with R flex. However, apparently Callaway discontinued the Aldila Ascent shafts, and the only Paradym 11W I could find in R flex came with HZRDUS Gen 4 Silver 60 gram shaft. That might have been okay, but I could not find a 9W with that same shaft to pair it with, so would have ended up with mixed model, weight and bend profile shafts. Frustration.
That led me a week ago to try out the TSR1 clubs, also now on the discount rack after the new models came out. Seems like they were under-rated, with testosterone and machismo leading most male potential buyers to go for TSR3 clubs and consider TSR2 as the fallback. Not what Titleist had in mind, it seems. The TSR1 hybrids have the stock Mitsubishi MMT HY 50 gram shaft. However, I noticed that they have three R flexes: R, R2 and R3. I began with an R2, but after seeing that R2 stood for A flex, I then did a side by side test in the bay with both hybrids in both flexes. I can hit either, but found the R2 tended to go right and had to work to get it to go straight, while the R flex seemed to go straight much more naturally.
So the question for me will be whether for my original purpose, to replace long and mid irons, will the 9W and 11W or the TSR1 5 and 6 hybrids be the best choice. I may hang on to both. Your test interested me because. although Taylor still swings faster than I do, it was more relatable than a test by one of you who swings at scratch or pro speeds. If you got to this point, thanks for your patience and tolerance!!
