  • Digging through my old stuff, I found this old video from a "how-to build your own PC" guide I was working on at the time.
    For people that need to be "talked through" installing a CPU and HSF.

    That heat sink compound looked used. If your going to reapply the heatsink, you need to reapply NEW heatsink compound and remove the old paste. If it does come with paste on a new heat sink it must not be exposed to the air for very long.

    Back when that video was shot, it wasn't an "old" AGP board. Back then, AGP was it. :)

    @eilif9 It's a table, not a floor and yes it worked. Why wouldn't it? The table's laminiated and the motherboard was spinning on the tips of the plastic clips that the northbridge heatsink and PCI slots were attached with. Don't be a know-it-all.

    No. I used the TIM that came with the heatsink.

    @themanhunt1234 Nit pick much? ;-)
    It's actually not even called a "bracket", but rather a "retention mechanism" and the part that clicks into it is a "clip frame", as per Intel. There is no "bracket", per se.
    And Molex is a brand of connector. It can be any number of pins, any shape of connector if you want to get technical. The 4-pin connector everyone calls a "Molex" isn't really a Molex either unless its made by Molex, It's actually a "peripheral power connector".

    Couldn't you run the computer for a bit, shut the PC off, and then take it off while it's still hot?
    Probably not the greatest for the processor, but still....

    does anyone know how to install the cpu motherboard bracket with push pins? im talking about this part - i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/waEAAMXQHU1Rrj6u/$T2eC16dHJHQFFhb,3g!zBRrj6u!z4w~~60_57.JPG
    the push pins are not like the intel lga 1155 / 775 coolers where you use a flat head to turn them clockwise or counter clockwise, so would you just push them down directly to snap into place? im also looking for the retention clips, but im not sure if i found the right one to work with the foxconn push pin bracket. the cooler im gonna use is the rosewill rcx-z200.

    Is that an old AGP motherboard? I recently installed a new vid card and ram and everything's running smooth. But I gotta upgrade from this P4 2.00ghz. I'm currently searching for Dell Dimension 8200 upgrade vids. This was a great help thanks.
