I just love looking at these backgrounds and environments. It makes the Mushroom Kingdom look so alive, like a true magical place. Could stare at these beautiful vistas for hours.

If you'd like to look into this mappack's sources of inspiration I recommend you into some of the concept art and promotional material for SMB1 and related games. I know the 2 people who made this (I actually did some of the graphics for the World 4 tileset, though my presence was quite late into developement), and both use Mario promo art extensively when drawing sprites. Iirc this fixation came from an artwork accurate mod of SMB Allstars
I will admit, the music is my only real gripe with what I see here, as for the most part it reminds me of those shoddily-sounded "8-bit" renditions of songs I remember trying to find on RUclips a decade prior. Though some renditions, such as the Athletic theme and Snow Overworld theme don't sound half-bad. Other than that, this is truly a work of art. The redesigned sprites, the level layouts which are similar to but not carbon-copies of the original levels, incorporating traits from later games and even from earlier ones like Donkey Kong and Mario Bros., this is quite the work of reimagining of Super Mario Bros. that still keeps things 8-bit.
There is some really strange (and arguable bad) level design and visual design choices as well. Kind of looks like any other moderately polished indie game to me
