"The music began quietly, almost inaudibly, but the melody grew louder and louder, the tempo faster, the knuckles of the balalaika players struck the sounding boards with bravura... This was the Kamarinskaya in full swing, and it would really have been a fine thing if Glinka could have heard it as it was played in our prison." -DOSTOYEVSKY, The House of the Dead
@emilointeriapl Hi! Yes, I can tell you that these musicians are from the Alexandrov Red army choir, they kept this name because it's famous since decades!
I already was at 20 concerts (the colonel even invited me often...) of this wonderful ensemble, and I want to tell everybody that these great artists are just very lovely persons (I'm French but I speak and sing in Russian...)!!! The balalaika soloist is Viktor Predelin. Best greetings from France!
Whatever you say, i find the music is fantastic, the musicians are great, it's a marvellous happening, look at the face of the orchestra-member behind the solist, who is funny enough to do a trick too...
@akschrott Actually, the Red Army Choir and Musical Ensemble still exists. It's definitely not regular army nor a Communist army, but they still tour and perform.
@akschrott They are usually referenced as "The Red Army Choir" and "Red Army Band" Some of the members have never seen any duty, it's all mainly for show. You can reserve them like most bands if you have the money but it's that expensive that they usually only play for government venues. I don't think you can rent any military forces for your venue. Many of the members still bear the Hammer Sickle cap badges as well.
