I traveled to Russia in 2017 and visited Moscow and a bunch of historical villages and towns on the way to the last stop, St Petersburg. After 2 weeks of travel, I was very tired, but a fellow traveler offered me her ticket to this show for FREE. Even though I just wanted to sleep, I couldn't pass up the chance to see this live. Needless to say, it was the highlight of my trip. I paid the extra 600 rubles (like $10) to be allowed to film the show on my phone and take pictures. I'm so glad I did. These dancers are world class athletes and are amazing. The show was phenomenal.
My Grandfather and Grandmother came to America from Odessa. When I was a boy, he took me to see the Moiseyev Dance Company on their first tour of the states. It marked me forever with pride in my heritage. I destroyed the livingroom furniture trying to copy what I saw on the stage. To this day, this kind of performance is thrilling. I could watch it for hours.
We might have crossed paths, although I am older than you. I went to see the Moiseyev Folk Dancers on opening night at the Shrine Auditorium. Not only was it a remarkable performance, it was something entirely new in the world of dance at that time, particularly for male dancers. Hungarian refugees were out demonstrating against the Soviet intervention in their country's affairs. I believe the folk dancers were the first Russian troupe to tour the West (U.S.) after WWII.

Помню там тоже были казачьи танцы и трюки с саблями поразительной сложности

@@ladyv9208 Don't forget boys, that there are 2 types of cossacks: Zaporizhian and Don Cossacks. Zaporizhian are in Ukraine and Don are in Russia. For example my great-grandfather was Ukrainian (from Poltava) and was Zaporizhian Cossack, and he had in the Russian Empire passport a stamp "Cossack". But also in Russia there are Don Cossacks, which were repanded even to Siberia (but originally they all are from Kuban), those Cossacks were serving a long time to White Army.

when i was a kid in the 60's I saw a film about cossacks- i thought that to ride a horse like a cossack & dance like a cossack was the pinnacle of manliness....cant say Ive changed my opinion..maybe throw in to sing like mario del monaco...

Занимался стилизованной русской пляской когда-то... В этом номере еще можно увидеть настоящие, народные элементы пляски. То, как пляшут сегодня - "клюква"! И эта стилизация, по-большому счету, тоже "клюква". Но, повторюсь, элементы настоящей пляски тоже несет в себе. Спасибо, интересно посмотреть!

They say that white man can't dance what would you call this Cossacks? I have some Russian/ eastern European blood in my veins. Cossack dancers actually put America break dancing to shame, they're the true break dancers. It's amazing, wonderful, and awesome to watch them perform.

when i was a kid in the 60's I saw a film about cossacks- i thought that to ride a horse like a cossack & dance like a cossack was the pinnacle of manliness....cant say Ive changed my opinion..maybe throw in to sing like mario del monaco...
