- The Temptations is a four-hour television miniseries broadcast in two-hour halves on NBC, based upon the history of one of Motown's longest-lived acts, The Temptations. Executive produced by former Motown executive Suzanne de Passe, produced by Otis Williams and Temptations manager Shelley Berger, and based upon Williams’ Temptations autobiography, the miniseries was originally broadcast on November 1 and November 2, 1998. It was filmed on location in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the spring of 1998. Allan Arkush directed the miniseries.

My favorite Temptation was Melvin, the level headed peace making Baritone. I always sympathized with him trying to manage everyone’s messiness and always felt he got overlooked.

Blue's non-problematic self was my fave. and D.B Woodside today😝. Otis definitely is owed recognition, he started the group after all didn't he?🤔 It was his baby, yes he was being a control freak but who wouldn't ride so hard for something they help created.
Leon made the movie. Nobody else gets this much recognition for that one "Otis" line alone, his looks and charm suave, his acting chops. And he still looks GOODT.

Listeeennn… this movie made me a Temptations STAN and eventually, a Motown stan! I can’t even count how many times I’ve seen this miniseries. Eddie is my favorite real-life Temp, but Paul is my fave in the miniseries. An absolute classic!

Every time I hear, “ why you always on the roooaaawwd”, I laugh and think, what in the Baltimore is this child 😆😆😆. Thanks for the fun fact that the actors who played Paul and Eddie really sang, they are my favorites. I always thought he lipped sang Eddie a little to well, now it makes sense, he was really singing.
I really don’t have a favorite Temptation. I liked each one for different reasons. I like Melvin because of his speaking voice and his chocolate edible looking complexion, I liked Eddie Because he seemed like the voice of reason in the group, I liked Paul because of his handsome face and the dancing! I really got upset when they showed him spiraling into alcoholism. I liked Otis being Otis! David Ruffin with his singing voice and fiery personality. The movie itself was fire!!!! 🔥

This was done so well it never needs to be done again. Even watching it present day, it still looks good ANNNND all these men still look the same! I never knew people tried to sue Otis.
My favorite temptation is Otis because he’s the one who put them together & kept them in line. Fun Facts: Leon said that his lines were ad-libed & rubbed the cast the wrong way. Prior to this bio Charles Malik Whitfield appeared on New York Undercover, Jimmy Ruffin was portrayed by Lahman Rucker, prior to Set It Off Chez Lamar Shepard was on the forgotten short sitcom Me & The Boys. The only thing I didn't like about the movie is the errors that were in it and important things that were left out. Other than that, the movie was great! Wouldn't be who I am without the Temptations mini series. Paul's my favorite member. He brought everything into what the group needed. Gave 'em more soul

I’m a big Paul fan. He was the Swiss Army knife of the group and he could do everything! But the Temptations are a 1/1 group. I saw an interview with Otis and he said even their stature set them apart because all the members were 6ft and over 😍. Speaking of Otis, I ain’t mad at him, every group needs an Otis to keep everyone focused. Without Otis God knows where their careers would have been 🤷🏽♀️

In the movie, David. But my favorite songs are usually led by either Dennis or Eddie. Not to sleep on David it’s just my favorite (non-Christmas) songs are Papa was a Rolling Stone and Just My Imagination.
I just watched this movie the other day on RUclips; one of my favorite tv bio movies; You must do The Jacksons: The American Dream bio pic movie review; another one of my favs.

Gordy has more blood on his hands than Diddy. From Diana Ross, Eddie Kendricks and their passionate affair. To Temptation members putting their wives on the blade to make money. Paul's alleged "suicide." David dying in a hospital and NOT a crackhouse like the movie portrays. IYKYK. But I can't take away from a top tier flick and bonafide CLASSIC. But they ain't take it there and talk about the REAL scandal and drama. The style and "class" was put into it, but there's so much that was left out that mfs know, but can risk repercussions with speaking on it. At least until Gordy croaks. Hence Otis getting sued. The timeline’s a little off on the 2 sets on temptations in the movie, but I do know that if I had a choice to see David, Eddie and Dennis or Otis, Melvin and 3 other dudes (no disrespect) I know which one I’m running to.
Paul and Melvin easily are my favorite members Otis and David both had big egos that killed the group but everyone overlooks Eddie bs instigating alway defending David when David clearly was wrong 2 biggest villians were Flynn (I hated that guy) and Berry Gordy being a real life Suge Knight and Puffy in the 60s and 70s
My favorite Temp is David with Paul running a close second in the original 5 and later Ali-Ollie Woodson & Dennis Edwards. My lifelong crush on Leon started with this movie. Luv it as always Tyra & thanks for sharing Paul's Sickle Cell as well the end of his lif3 being quite suspect. I always hated that they just made him out to be a drunk when it was to help dull his pain. 💜

Love, love, love this movie. I grew up listening to my mom's records so I knew the songs. The movie is top-tier. Paul in the movie is my favorite, his dance moves were fire... when you got to Lamont and "on the rwhoad" me and my hunny had to take a 10min break to just laugh. Chile, the budget was DONE and no redos were possible.😂😅. I love the interview and all the related shenanigans!!!!

This is one of my favorite movies!!! I remember watching it several times growing up with my cousins and us singing and dancing to it!
In the Smithsonian American History museum there is one of thier suits and it is an exquisite and impeccable work of art.

Fun Fact: Leon actually sings quite a few of the songs on the five heartbeats, think he may actually be doing a lot of the singing for David Ruffin in some of the songs on the movie as well. He is definitely singing the part in shout when we are first introduced to David, that is for sure Leons vocals. If Otis heard him singing on the five heartbeats that might be why he picked him because Leon has a nice voice though his singing career never went anywhere. Also David Ruffin has a song called Slow Dance and it's a BOP, the album it was on was also a good album Its titled Gentlemen Ruffin.

I became a Temptations FANATIC after this. Heres a bit of info to add
On the Distants song "Come ON"...That's Richard Street not AL and that blazing tamborine on the song was ACTUALLY Norman Whitfield who would later take control of the group in the post Ruffin Era.
Eddie (corn) was my favorite!! Southern, loyal friend, had that nice falsetto and could DRESSSS!!
Eddie and Paul are my favorites. Eddie was actually the most successful ex-temptation to go solo, and the only one to get a number one song on the charts. David wasn’t showing up to promote his first albums like he should have, so Motown stopped putting him with the best producers after awhile. Also, Eddie has co-writing credits on “The Girl’s Alright With Me.” And many of his songs have been sampled really well (ie Alicia Key’s’ “Irreplaceable”).
When Al Bryant cut Paul’s face with that bottle, Paul actually wanted to give all one more shot in the group. Also, Paul recorded a few solo songs before he died, but they were never officially released, but they’re on RUclips.

We had this movie on VHS! I loved watching it! Blue and Paul were my favorite people. And hearing "Aint nobody coming to see you Otis" still makes me laugh until this day 😂😂

Me and my sister were so intrigued by Leon's talent when we were kids that we looked up shihh to see if he could sing and allat. Cuz he was always playing Great singers in movies. And through thst we learned Otis & some of the other guys actually could and did sing with some alterations on their voices.. however.. Eddie was always a mystery. But i could kinda tell cuz there is a slight difference in the way The actor sings and the way Eddie sang.. Eddie sounds very whispy & soulful.. Terron sounds like a freshly cleaned flute.. Eddie sounds like he learned to sing from Church. & Terron sounds like he took a class . And thats no shade at all to either.. I can juss hear the difference 😄.. i hate that Terron felt his work went unnoticed cuz i really feel like the fact that he did so well it convinced ppl he was lip syncing.. actually is a testament to his talent & skill & work he put in.. i hope he at least knows that now.
