Dannnnng! I'm in the market for my first affordable electric hand planer and this is the first video I found for the one I saw on Amazon! You sold me. Thank you, you enabler! HAHAHA!
@@ClevesBackyardWoodworking thank you! So Ieamt to ask, do you ever use that attachment thing? It doesn't seem to be totally useful in your video. After growing up watching my dad use hand planers, that thing just looks like it would get in the way.
Since I'm somewhat a novice I really appreciated this video covered from cutting open the blocks, assembly, and full use' If you're looking for a instruction on the WEN, this is it.
@@ClevesBackyardWoodworking Because of you I now know to use the kickstand! Thanks again for all your help! I'm using the planer right now and it's working beautifully.
Thanks for the information. That planner is sitting in my Amazon shopping cart right now. Stop motion of the planet taking itself out of the bag was a great idea too! 👍
I was using my $500 surface planer to take the top coat off recycled wood I use. It was tough onvthe blades. I bougbt this hand planer it is beautiful. It is the easiest .dthod for me to straighten a board without buying a joiner (yet) lol. Your vid was very good thx.
Tips from a Shipwright has a Ryobi he likes which he modded to really improve it. I'd like to get this Wen as its much wider, however not sure how long the blades will last. Heard the blades are rather soft compared to others, which means more replacements. Also not sure if you can adjust the blades as easily as the Ryobi. For the price, and to use upside down in a table though, I think I'll take the plunge. I can probably get blades made of a better steel if necessary.
Thank you much for this video. I have very much been considering getting one of these planers & your review has helped considerably. It looks like what I need. Thanks WEN for making an affordable planer with a cutting bed this width.
Nice vid. Looks like the 3 1/4 version has a dust bag, but this doesn't? Seems kinda odd. But maybe one can be added, or maybe even use something as simple as a ziploc bag haha.
I am a total newbee, but I recently got a chop saw with a dust bag, and also a sander. I have used them both a couple of times. They are not expensive brands, but the saw dust does not go into the bags at all. So, I just bought a small 4 gallon shop vac, and I am going to.hook my tools up to the shop vac and turn it on while I'm using the tools. I hope it works, but I haven't received the shop vac yet, so I haven't tried it yet, naturally.
@@susanhopemason Some of my tools do not have good dust extraction, the dust can fly everywhere. I always wear a mask and do some work outdoors. Or at the edge of the garage with a fan blowing towards the outside.
not sure I understand correctly, I would adjust it all the way up where it doesn't really shave any wood off, then slowly adjust it down to your liking. hope that helps any
Cool! I like the WEN stuff. I have an old Craftsman electric hand planer like that. It really comes in handy to flatten out boards and clean them up.
Yeah this tool is cool and making old boards look new is fun lol

Good choice! just a simple tip is keep that kick stand up and watch when placing it down so it doesn't damage the blade.👍

@@CarolinaGirlCreationZ the edge guide you talking about? haven't really found it useful but guess it would depend on the person
Big fan of WEN products . I am a tig welder , their angle grinder is my daily mule. Good products , thanks Wen.
cool, was thinking of getting a wen bandsaw but yeah happy with this hand plane
I just got mine today. And looked for videos about how to use it. Yours was the first one I found. Thanks for your help.

thanks I appreciate that, I tried my best
I just bought this model and really appreciate the time you took to show us how to use it!
thank you, glad this helped. take care of the blade when placing the tool down so it doesn't get dented 👍

Fantastic. Thanks for that demonstration. I just ordered a Wen 6534, my first planer,. Seeing you unbox it and use it gives me confidence to use one.
Thank You, it's a great first planer I think. Make sure you keep the blades protected when placing to tool down.
Just found your review, Cleve. Going to buy one now! Thanks.

I just got my wen 3 1/4" hand planer today! I'm glad I found this video thanks
glad it helped, happy sawdust making.
That's great video. Thank you for the show!
Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it
@@ClevesBackyardWoodworking I have already bought it after watching your video.
@@matthewl1195 how are you liking it?
@@ClevesBackyardWoodworking It is heavy and looks good. I haven't tried yet.
Just bought a Wen to shape surfboards - thanks for the review Cleve!
😎 🤙
Just bought one, at 60 bucks thought the big brands couldn't be over twice as good.
I thought the same thing and this planer works good for what I need. If I would spend more might as well get a battery powered one
Best video since its showing rough timber and the result.
Thank you, glad it helped.
Thanks for the demonstration!
Good unboxing video, David. A person certainly has all the information needed to make a good decision about this tool.
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words.

hey, blades are lasting quite a while, guess it depends how much they're used. blade adjustment is easy. not sure about the upside down table.

Just ordered one for a project
Awesome video your videos get better and better each time. Now you have all that man glitter (sawdust) to play with lol
Yeah mess of sawdust and wood chips everywhere.
Hello can u please help
Me with the size and thread type of the winged screw for the gauge for the 4-3/8 plainer. Great video

Nice and pretty thorough demo! Thank you!
thanks, glad it was helpful.
Do sign makers use an electric planer to remove spray paint after spraying inset letters? Seems easier than sanding.
for me personally it's not ideal as the planer can chip out parts of letters or whatever and with the sander you have more control.
@@ClevesBackyardWoodworking got it. Thanks for the reply.
What kind of blades does this take? I can't find any info anywhere about them, and I'm in Canada, so Wen won't ship the blades from their website :(
Haven't needed any blades yet but I only know of the wen replacements and possibly POWERTEC 128380 4-3/8-Inch brand should fit
Very informative. nicely done, sir!
thank you! glad this was helpful.
which would you get first... the 3 1/4 or the 4 3/8 planer if you had to recommend to someone getting their first one.
it's all preference, wider planer cuts for wider boards and quicker flattening, so depending on your use really
Where would you get a Helical Cutterhead for this model? I do guitar work, and figured grains are common! TX
Not sure if there is one for this model
Excelent demo. To the point.
thanks, I try my best 🙂
What purpose of the guide plate
Helps with perpendicular cuts and or can use it for rabbets.
I’ve bought this one. But it can cut wood instead of I adjusted many depth level. Who can help me?

Great video. Are the replacement blades common? Can they be purchased at a big box store or do you have to order from WEN. Thanks again for the video.
thanks, haven't replaced blades but I know you can order them online.
You can order them from WEN they are pretty cheap
It's been a couple years now since you first made this video. How has it held up and how often do you use it?
it's holding up great, recently used it to make a crate with pallet wood. gets used a few times a year I would say
I just got mine and it cut left side deeper than the right. I tried multiple areas...any tips.
not sure if it's the blade or the wood that's causing that
Thanks for sharing my friend
V nice good work
Thank you!
where can i get the blade?
hey you can get them on wen website and Amazon has one from powertec that should work
nice video thanks
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed.
