Alexander Gustafsson faced Maurício Rua on 8 December 2012, at UFC on Fox 5. He was able to use his reach and powerful striking, as well as his wrestling, from which he was able to land six takedowns, to defeat Rua via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, and 30-26).
It was said that a victory over 'Shogun' Rua would likely ensure Gustafsson a shot at the title in his next fight, but since he didn't want to sit out of competition for a long time to wait for his chance, Gustafsson said he was fine with having another fight before that could happen.
Huge Shogun fan. I remember watching this Live on fox when i was like 16. I don't remember this fight being this competitive lol i just remember being really disappointed that Shogun got dominated but i guess it was alot more competitive then i remember.
I was actually thinking the same thing lol weird how we thought shogun was just gettin mauled the whole right
Shogun is too small for light heavy division by this time
Alex did great!! But Shogun is a real warrior! Great fight!!
Thing is this fight happened in 2012, and Shogun was like 31 years old.....not that old at all...
0:52 illegal knee by shogun
Illegal? Brazilians dont worry about rules..
@@BillyBob-wq9fl yea but this is not Vale tudo homie, this is UFC and it should be punished accordingly
Shogun became an old beat up fighter after this fight. This isnt his pride glory days..
Shogun was already washed after he fought Jones, both of his knees are permanently messed up like Thiago Santos.
@@itsreihart9865 he got the knee injuries before the fight and was coming off knee surgery. wrong timeline
Thank you 👍👏👏👏👏
Gustafsson est vraiment très bon c est le seul pour moi qui a légèrement eu le dessus sur john jones il aurait mérité au minimum le match nul.
Nem lembrava que o Shogun tinha lutado com Gustafsson.
Fighting is serious business
What is the name takedown 1:08?
@diegolucas1
That's called a knee pick. Similar to a knee tap, but with a knee tap you're generally doing it after a level change and are driving them more to the side.
Scores!
