- If you've been reading ebooks on a tiny 6" black & white screen, you're about to have an eye-opening experience with the big, bright 9" full-color display on the Barnes & Noble Nook 9-Inch Tablet. Ebook fan and tech expert Dave Taylor checks out the newest in the Nook family and talks about why you should buy it through BN.COM rather than just pick up the Lenovo Tab M9. Why? Because B&N adds some unique software that makes the experience quite a bit better. Don't forget, it's also an Android 13 tablet so you can watch Netflix, enjoy the latest RUclips videos, play all your favorite Android games, and much more. Includes detailed hands-on demo with a graphic novel, audiobook, and traditional ebook on screen.

Thanks for this video. I have watched it twice and will probably do so again. I just upgraded to this device from the 7" NOOK which I only used for reading. This is a world of difference. At first, I was dismayed but now am excited. I used to watch Netflix, but it stopped working on that device. And so did LIBBY. But, both seem to be OK on the Lenovo.
One thing right off the bat that I don't like is that there is simply not enough room on the home screen. There are some default apps I would like to remove, but can't figure that out.
I had the old Nook+ color.. I know, very old, but I loved it. I was able to get books from Amazon that would load right to the Nook. Is this new one still able to do this? I will be getting this new Nook soon before the $30 credit from B&N for my old one expires.
That should still work, but if you're getting books from Amazon, aren't you then in the Kindle app to read them?
Considering your comment is at least a month old I’ve probably already missed it. But what’s that about a credit for your old nook?
Not positive about the status of this offer, check this page for more info (or just ask B&N customer support?) www.barnesandnoble.com/w/nook-9-lenovo-tablet-barnes-noble/1144699877
Picked it up launch weekend. Haven't done much reading, yet. but feel like it's a step up from using my phone. Got it primarily for manga and light novels, and so far, no complaints. The fact that, if I need a book, I can buy B&N books directly without going to web is a great feature. No complaints so far, except battery, but to be expected for a "tablet", and its standby time is amazing. (all data off + power saver = no battery usage when not in use). Picked up a 3rd party cover, similar to the official, and its been nice as well. Loaded in a custom launcher, however, so I can customize the home screen much more, and I've had zero problem accessing or finding what I need. Can even use the B&N app to order from the cafe while I read at their store :)
Sounds like a great solution for you. And yeah, imagine the same tablet, but with a 1000 hr battery. Maybe a few years down the road 🙂
@AskDaveTaylor standby is easily over a month if not in use. With use I read for about 2 to 3 hours with only about 3%. So days of reading. Yes I disabled many of the nifty android features and keep the data connections off when not in use, and battery saver is always on. But battery life is pretty amazing. And no complaints. Definitely finding myself reading more already
I've learned with other devices (my iPad Mini, especially) that if you use it sporadically, airplane mode is a secret hack to extend battery life manyfold. Sounds like you're doing the same too!
@@AskDaveTaylorBarnes and Noble customer service told me you have to open a browser to buy a book.
Is this the case?
if you put comic books or manga on your reader trust me all that storage will be nice, LUL
I purchased the Lenovo Tab M9 on Amazon but I wasn't able to download the Nook app - "not available on this tablet". Does that make sense?
While the physical device is the same, B&N adds its own custom software on the branded Nook version. Still, you should be able to get most of the software, including the Nook ebook reader. Did you try all of the various Nook apps in the Google Play Store? You could also take it in to a local B&N if you have one and ask for help...
Tablet? So it means very eye straining
Didn't the regular M9 have up to a terabyte of SD storage available
It's possible you could expand it, I don't know the max storage capacity. 1TB is a *lot* of ebooks 🙂
I found the new Nook tablet so confusing to use that i gave it away.
Sorry to hear that, but the recipient got a good deal. Did you go into a local B&N and ask them to help explain things for you?
My 2012 Nook had the little silver horseshoe button when I wanted to exit something or get to the home page. How do you do that on this tablet?
i want a colour e-reader so i can read webtoons, manga and use the libby app and other apps through my local library. i used to have a nook as a teenager so this would be a full-circle moment for me. it has the play store, so i'm assuming i can get all those apps?
Will this update to android 14?
Eventually, I would imagine, but it could be rather a while...
I was ready to do a factory reset and offer this up on FB Market place I hated Lenovo so much! This video has helped tremendously, and I plan to check back several times until I really learn all the ins and outs of this new Nook!
I have a Lenovo p12 and it's the best tablet I've ever owned. So much for so little.
Got this when they EoL'd my 2012 NOOK HD+. Less screen space but at least up-to-date, though I cannot seem to be able to crossload epub files where the Nook app can see them.
With basically no bezel, it is too easy to trigger a page turn by accidentally touching the edge of the screen, so it's not real well designed for an e-reader. Mine also seems to have issues with maintaining its wi-fi connection, but it's hard to pin down. I should bring it to a B&N store and see if it happens there (where someone can see it). My customer experience is 6.5 out of 10 for this device.
Thanks for the feedback. I can see what you mean about the accidental page turns, though I haven't experienced it myself. I wonder if a different style of case might mitigate that (there are tons of generic 9" cases on Amazon). In terms of your wi-fi, definitely experiment with different networks to see if it's a tablet problem or a wi-fi network problem. Good luck!
You look so much like actor Clancy Brown (from sci-fi movie Cowboys and Aliens). Great review, thanks.
Or does Clancy Brown look like me?? 🙂
@@AskDaveTaylor Yeah you’re right. It’s the other way around 😄
not an ereader, just a regular LCD screen ...
You're correct. As I say, an "ebook reader".
Do you know if my old nook hd books can be transferred over to this?
They should just show up in your Nook app?
@@AskDaveTaylor I guess what I meant was, will it still be in epub format?
Is there a way to change from the android OS to the nook OS ? There was a rumour the 10" nook had that feature.
I do not see any indication that you can switch, and in any case, the NookOS is considerably slimmer in features and capabilities than Android...
@@AskDaveTaylor thanks for the speedy reply. I know android has more features, but I like opening the e-reader and instantly be on the nook OS/app.
@@tonygonzales726if you turn the screen off with the app open it typically stays open. Standby time is pretty lengthy when not in use. So that's always an option. Can probably find a launcher on the store that can boot up a reader on home screen.
Thanks for the video.📺 Mine came in the mail almost 2 weeks ago; the cover got here first. Nook Hub makes it so much easier.📚
What color is your cover? I really like their pastel colors!
@@AskDaveTaylor Spearmint
I don't know what the NOOK HUB is for. All I see is info about the device. I can't actually do anything when I am there.
You don't need to access the Nook Hub; it just enables other things (like buying ebooks directly in the Nook app)
Do they have the content to support this?
I dunno, do you consider 4.5 million ebooks in the Nook store sufficient? 🙂
@@AskDaveTaylorthats awesome
Do it have text to speech
Android 13 includes text-to-speech capabilities, but it's not a native feature in the Nook ebook reader app. However, Android might still offer it through accessibility. You'd need to experiment!
Any idea how the reading experience/screen compares to the glow light 4 plus?
I don't, but I expect that you could go to a Barnes & Noble store and see them side by side?
